…… Clothes Dryer light keeps turning on. Why?

Loretta Van Riet

Ok...has done this over the years, but RARELY! Now pops on like every 2 minutes.

Had my vent and connections professionally vacuumed last week. No bird nests, said it wasn't bad at all.

Oh, and now my dryer is STOPPING every TWO minutes of operation. If I restart it, it then shuts off in ONE minute.
Unit is a gas operated Sears Kenmore Elite H3. About 8 years old.

So... between the inside light turning on frequently by ITSELF, and now the unit is going on strike, is it beyond repair?

With my limited knowledge... the unit is igniting and warming the clothes, but shutting off after 2 minutes. Maybe a bad sensor?

Help, please.

I know Jack squat about appliance repair, but the inside light should only turn on for you to see inside when the door is open.
Also, when the door is open, I'm sure the dryer won't operate also.
Perhaps there is an issue with the latching mechanism or sensor inside of it that is making the dryer "think" that the door is open for whatever reason?

Yes, it is the switch on the door latch. It might be as simple as blowing it out with a can of air or air compressor. Also, it has been my experience that every time the light comes on a sock is teleported to Andromeda, so you should count your socks.

Actually it is Alpha centauri, the closest star system to us. Our current technology does not allow us to teleport all the way to andromeda, yet.

Possibly the door open sensor/switch.

Washer/Dryers tend to last about 10 years, give or take, depending on frequency of use. I know my mothers Maytag right now turns on its own and she freaks out. We've had it checked by Maytag and there is nothing wrong with it. So we've chalked it up to ghosts (Dad). Which we make a joke out of now. When it goes on, we say "Dad, knock it off" and it stops.

Have you cleaned the filters and the tubing from lint? I know twice a year my hubby takes the snake tool thingy (technical term :) and gets it all out so we dont end up with a fire. I also use a Washing Machine cleaner a few times a year and run a few cycles.

Had it professionally cleaned/vacuumed last week. Vent was very clean said the service fellow.

Soo... check the vent. Check the back of the machine. Check the whole pathway. Odds are a blockage got formed.

good chance those "duct cleaners" bent your dryer door (bent downward on the hinges) - try that first and then start monkeying with the door interlock switch and the latch ....

People are said to wonder where the Stargates are in the world. I contend they are in dryers. At least for socks, they are.

These guys have a ton of repair, cleaning, and troubleshooting of large appliances videos. I used one of their videos for my LG washerdryer.
