INTL China workers protesting after 10 die in locked-down high rise fire.

I give up.
I hate getting involved in the China things, although I did recently post a couple of videos of the locked down workers (supposedly Covid) in that huge factory/city enclave where they make communications stuff. Anyhow, I feel I must because the natives really are getting restless now.

46,000 maternal & child care firms closed in half year; Protests burst out daily in China

I have followed spotlight on china, but protests are growing in frequency. The public is about to the point of full on over throw of the regime if the zero covid policy does not stop and it does not stop ruining the internal economy...

Looks like the death toll went up. There was a pic of an apparently deceased young woman's face, but I didn't think you'd want me to post it. She sure doesn't look even a tad chinese. Yes, I know the Uyghurs are muzzies.

There was a think tank study maybe ten years ago where they used some incident in China to impost a naval blockade shutting off shipping into and out of the South China Sea. There be a shut down of China's industrial production throwing 200,000,000 workers out of a job. The results would be massive protest resulting in an over throw of the CCP. Maybe a blockade today isn't possible due to the build up in their military, but what we see today, maybe that is the back up plan. Find a way to lock down China (Covid) and screw up the supply chain. Looks like it might be working. Those angry crowds start taking out the network of cameras and they might have a chance.

It is starting, slowly. I am seeing an increase in reports of protests and they are getting ever more violent. A populace with nothing left to lose is akin to a cornered animal, nothing good comes of the result.

Once the folks figure out that removing the camera removes negative results, things will start going south quickly. Once they discover that without internet without connectivity the monitoring beast dies, things will change but no one will see it at first...

I'm sure that some of you are familiar with Serpentza (South African) and laowhy86 (American) who both taught English in China, and married Chinese women while living there for about 14 years before leaving.

Here is their analysis of what is going on in China right now.

I talked to my dear friend in Shangqui (Henan Province) last night. She is a high school English teacher. All schools in the city have been closed for over a month. Her school has…. and this is not a typo… 10,000 students. Although she agrees with the zero tolerance policy, she acknowledges that it is extremely difficult on the students. She said they need to be around other kids. They are getting depressed. I asked her if people can still go to their regular jobs and yes, they can/do. It’s only schools that are closed where she lives. Restaurants are take out only.

I’m gradually touching base with some other parents of students I had. I haven’t communicated with all but one of them in about a year so I don’t want to just now message them and ask them about all this. The one I’ve been in limited contact with is in Shanghai and she’s not afraid to speak her mind on Wechat. She wanted me to send her videos of protests from 4-5 months ago. But the other parents/students that I am on Wechat with are in Guangzhou… a Covid hot bed. One parent in Guangzhou wants me to teach again. Another one that moved to Australia has contacted me… so I’ll see what I can find out… I’m incredibly curious if they know what happened.

I have been following stuff of this stuff and China is getting darned Dicey. I know that the truth and the real stories will flow out over time. What I do not know are what the truth and what the propoganda is.

I feel the pain of the people there and I am seeing them starting to realize that the only way to make it stop is to say no and darn the consequences. And it is unfortunate that the policies in place are being severely abused...

I just messaged my friend in Shanghai. I asked her about protests. She said this:
“No, it won’t happen in China, since all the protests need to be authorized by government.[Facepalm][Facepalm]”

“ Shanghai International Marathon is being held this day.”

Then I told her that I have video. I recorded the video and sent it to her and she said,

“Really? Would you please send me?”

Her response to that video:
“We heard nothing. But I think it’s not true. Because there’s no police officers only security guards. They shouted ‘step down’, and another voice was shouted someone’s name, but that definitely not Xi.”

She is an account for an international company that has offices in the US. She lives in a nicer part of Shanghai.

More from my friend in Shanghai… I sent her the second video above and she said,

“Can’t be. All the protests need to be reported to government to approve. Policemen will come to guard the security. If someone leads a protests without permission, he or she will lost his job and may have punishment. And it will be recorded in his documents.”

She want to video chat with me now

Protests erupt across China in unprecedented challenge to Xi Jinping’s zero-Covid policy

Updated 10:54 PM EST, Sat November 26, 2022

Beijing CNN —

Protests are erupting across China, including at universities and in Shanghai where hundreds chanted “Step down, Xi Jinping! Step down, Communist Party!” in an unprecedented show of defiance against the country’s stringent and increasingly costly zero-Covid policy.

A deadly fire at an apartment block in the country’s far western region of Xinjiang that killed 10 people and injured nine on Thursday appears to have fueled the anger, as video emerged that seemed to suggest lockdown measures delayed firefighters from reaching the victims.

Protests broke out in cities and at universities across China on Saturday and early Sunday morning, according to social media videos and witness accounts.

Videos widely circulated on Chinese social media show hundreds of people in downtown Shanghai on Saturday lighting candles to mourn the dead from the Xinjiang fire.

The crowd later held up blank sheets of white paper – in what is traditionally a symbolic protest against censorship – and chanted, “Need human rights, need freedom.”

In multiple videos seen by CNN, people could be heard shouting demands for China’s leader Xi Jinping and the Communist Party to “step down.” The crowd also chanted “Don’t want Covid test, want freedom!” and “don’t want dictatorship, want democracy!”

Some videos show people singing China’s national anthem and The Internationale, a standard of the socialist movement, while holding banners protesting Beijing’s exceptionally stringent pandemic measures.

Protests have also broken out in the capital city Beijing. One student at the prestigious Peking University told CNN that when he arrived at the protest scene at around 1 a.m. Sunday local time, there were around 100 students, and security guards were using jackets to cover a protest slogan painted on the wall.

The student said security guards later covered the slogan with black paint.

Students later gathered to sing the The Internationale before being dispersed by teachers and security guards.

In the eastern city of Nanjing, dozens of students from Communication University of China gathered to mourn those who died in the Xinjiang fire. Videos show the students holding up sheets of white paper and mobile phone flashlights.

In one video, a university official could be heard warning the students: “You will pay for what you did today.”

“You too, and so will the country,” a student replied.

So, at some point, the workers will finally come to the realization that going to work aids the CCP. Once that happens, they will all stay home. Manufacturing will shut down. China receives something like 40% of their GDP from exports. The workers will have the final say, imo. China is close to imploding. Just remember, all the world's a stage.

Couple of questions. It appears these protests only are happening on Twitter.
1. China is dominating my Twitter feed. I wonder…if this had happened two months ago if it would not due to censorship? The 80% fired staff would prob be deleting content left and right.
2. Usa condemned Iran etc recently on human rights etc. comparable or worse situation in China. I have not heard condemnation.
3. do not see this front and center on mainstream media. Crickets mostly.
4. Reminder. makes 2A appear more important. If every china household had a gun....slave labor/criminal govt would have prob ended a long time ago
5. Liberals, athletes, celebrities and politicians in USA and Western Europe really fall apart with their narrative here. The largest polluter, slave labor enforcer, no human rights regime in China is never criticized - ever. The things that are supposedly so dear to all of them.

No, respectfully I don’t agree with you. They are not getting close to imploding. Too much is withheld from them for them to implode. Extremely slow/controlled implosion… possible.

I taught English to kids in China via the internet for 5 years. China basically shut down all ESL companies who were doing it. It was a massive and emerging market. It’s a long story as to what the Chinese government was doing (and you can read all about it (Double Reduction Policy.) So, basically 100,000+ native English speaking ESL teachers lost their jobs as of November 1, 2021.

Why do I think they shut it all down? Because North American culture and influence was sneaking into their country via this online teaching. We showed them all about America and they couldn’t get enough. They soaked it in. People have no idea how much Chinese love(d) the USA. Even Trump at first. They thought he was an excellent business man. I was in China when the trade war began…. now THAT did bother me because Chinese we’re actually hearing about it on TV. Usually the government didn’t concern them in international affairs. You’d be shocked by how little they know about foreign affairs. As one parent told me, “We have no idea what happens on a world wide level. We just let our government take care of it. We have too many other things to be concerned about.” And they do. I knew things were bad when it made their mainstream news. The government finally involved their citizens and continued on a massive campaign by directly and indirectly controlling the narrative. Lying to them about the reason for the Double Reduction policy was comical to most because it had to do with trying to encourage Chinese to have more children. Conveniently, Covid hit just months later and they were so distracted by THAT they their interest in and discussion about the real reason for Double Reduction dissipated.

Now they think Trump wasn’t as bad as they once thought according to a couple parents. They think Biden has dementia and he’s ruining our country Who knows to what extent that opinion is held by other Chinese.

I talked to 4 different families/parents last night from Shangqui, Shanghai, Nanjing, and one who moved to Australia. They don’t know what’s happening.

This is one evil human right here.

Controversial Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz slams her OWN paper for opposing Chinese COVID lockdowns - and claims the US is killing off 'millions of vulnerable people' by not locking down

My friend in Shanghai messaged me overnight. I just read this:

“Last night in Shanghai, they were shouting ‘ want freedom, no Covid testing, no Health code’.”

That’s all I know. I don’t want to bombard her too much with questions or facts. I have to be very careful how I word questions or observations so that I don’t put any parent on the offensive. Most never want to speak candidly. She will.

My friend went on to explain how they are doing Covid testing in Shanghai. She knows, as do probably a majority of Chinese, that the government only tells them what they want their citizens to know. She was sitting at son’s school waiting for her son to complete tutoring while we were video chatting. We talked for about 45 minutes. She openly said with a frustrated tone that their government only tells them exactly what I said above… “They barely tell us anything. They tell us a small amount of things.”

(Edited to fix autocorrect… grrr…)

I really don’t mean to take this over… I’m not an expert on China by any means.

My friend in Shanghai and I talked about how detrimental the lockdowns have been on children. They were locked down for 3 months (I think it ended in early summer? I’m not sure.) It took a significant toll on her son and that’s why she was talking to me from her son’s school. He is failing so badly and is so stressed and depressed. He had depression tendencies before. I guess she never took it seriously. But now it’s threatening his ability to test into high school. If he can’t pass his exams he won’t be able to go to high school (high school is not a “given” in China. You have to have high scores in middle school in order to continue to move forward.) That’s why their kids ARE under a tremendous amount of stress.

That said… and this is a HUGE deal…. a student stole a fruit knife from a teacher a couple weeks ago. He tried to stab a fellow student. The teacher screamed at the students to grab him and they successfully disarmed him. Now the school makes this boy’s parents sit with the him at school. They can WFH while they sit there. That was the only way they’d let him back in.
