Misc Chicory/Roasted Dandelion Root

I have a few recipes that use coffee to provide a deep flavor. And a few more that I've added coffee to the ingredients because my son can't have beef and the meal needed that depth of flavor.
Recently I got to try chicory and liked it but it's not going to be something I drink every day. I also don't have limitless funds for experimenting. It's not available locally so I'd have to order it online. So a question for those who do know more about it. Is there a variety that provides a good "dark" flavor like strong roasted coffee? I'd really rather use chicory than coffee but I'm at the point of getting single serve decaf coffee bags if I don't find something else. oh, yeah, it's decaf coffee because caffeine, in this house, is asking for trouble. The other point is that I can eventually grow my own and roast it. But that's eventually and I'd like something in the pantry now.

Kyrsyan I love my chicory and dandelions teas and drink them every day. Is the chicory you bought roasted? I tried dandelion root unroasted and it was nothing like the roasted. They need to be roasted to have the deep flavor.

It was a detox tea with roasted dandelion. I like the flavor but I don't think there was a lot of dandelion in it. There aren't many teas that have it - I checked when I had to get a new detox tea. And I saw roasted chicory online when I was looking. So I was wondering which would have a good deep flavor. I'd rather test one that someone else has tested and liked than just buy at random.

When spring arrives, chicory is easy to grow! I started it from seed and it came back every year for many years.

In my yard, seed is not needed. I can just go harvest. Unless I decide to grow a specialty variety.
