Chicken Coop/Run Ideas

Hello All!

I have a chicken coop and run that I built almost two years ago as "temporary housing" It is located in the 50' x 110' dog fenced area. I built it there because it keep the chickens safe from the coyotes and wandering dogs. When we finish the pole barn, I want to expand and add meat chickens. They will only have to be housed temporarily as they will be slaughtered after a few weeks.

I also want to build a coop for my laying hens large enough to walk in and clean. The one I have now is 4' tall and a pain to clean. DH and I saw a neat all plastic shed at the store the other day and he commented on how it would make a perfect coop as it could be hosed out and easily cleaned. The only problem is that it cost $1200!!!!!!

I want to keep the meat chickens away from the laying hens. Space is not an issue as I plan on expanding the "dog run". My plan is to have the fence around the pole barn, chicken coops and runs, and this will become the dog run. It will also surround my vegetable garden with an separate fence blocking access to the garden until I decide to open up certain areas to let the chickens in.

All of this work will not start until Spring but I would like to work up a drawing and a cost sheet. Dh likes these things.

If you could post your ideas or perhaps pictures of your coops/runs, please do!

Thanks!

This is a link to a house/run that is almost exactly like the one my dh built for our chickies. http://image.mcmurrayhatchery.com/p...00/5spc_1_s.jpg He made it out of wood and chicken wire. Already it has survived a two dog attack without them getting through or my chickies getting hurt.

What I don't like about it is how hard it is going to be to figure out how to put in a roost and nest boxes and then clean the floor.

What I do like is that it can be moved around.

Also, I'm planning on more chickens so I'm going to need to figure out how to modify this for the next house/run I ask him to build, or am I going to want just one big, unmoveable house/chicken yard?

Since I would like to get two goats, could be that I'll go for the house/yard and not house/run.

A lot of decisions, and you want to get them right because it is too expensive to do it wrong and try again.

I'm looking forward to replies on this thread.
