Chicago woman with concealed-carry license foils attempted carjacking by shooting man in head

23-year-old woman was shot in arm by would-be carjacker's accomplice

A 23-year-old woman with a concealed-carry permit defended herself against four armed men who attempted to carjack her last week on the South Side of Chicago.

The woman, who remains unidentified, was sitting in her car in the Calumet Heights neighborhood just after 2 a.m. on Wednesday near 89th Street and Kenwood Avenue when four men spilled out of a black sedan, according to a local CBS affiliate.

When one of the men attempted to open her car door while holding a gun, the woman shot the would-be carjacker in the head before running away from the car.

One of the other men reportedly shot her in the left arm, and she was later taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in fair condition.

The man who she shot in the head was reportedly taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, though the woman's other three attackers escaped from the scene.

The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Crime has spiked in the Windy City in the last year, with homicides reaching an all-time high in a quarter-century in 2021.

Robbery reports have surged 15% in 2022, according to Chicago police records. Holdups have gone up 11% since 2020 and 2019, though they decreased 10% compared to 2018.

MULTIPLE COUPLES ROBBED AT GUNPOINT IN CHICAGO'S LINCOLN PARK AS CITY'S HOLDUPS ESCALATE

In just one hour, seven carjackings were reported on Chicago’s West Side on Friday morning, police confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The victims were held at gunpoint in some of the alleged carjackings, which took place on several streets.

Earlier this month, a concealed-carry holder interrupted an attempted robbery in an altercation that left both the suspect and a grocery store clerk dead.

Nicholas Williams, 24, attempted to rob El Barakah Supermarket on 73rd Street on the South Shore at about 6:20 p.m., according to a report from Fox station WFLD in Chicago.

Can't answer for her and I'm not young, but I have had occasion to be sitting in my car in the wee small hours to pick up a child from work at Stuffmart. Said child's car broke down and they needed a ride home.

Some people work third shift and carpool. It doesn't always have to be for nefarious reasons.

I don’t understand- why would she get out and run away from the car?
That's the part I don't get.
As to 0200 out & about, maybe OT or early call in, who knows? Bottom line, she can't be too bad if she's got a CCW in Chi-town.

I hope the puke she capped recovers enough to ID the runners; he can kick off then.

But good for her, getting one of four into the ER. With enough gun and better skills, she may have anchored a couple of them.

Well, the OP said she shot him in the head. I have to wonder where on the head was point of contact, and also wonder what cal hole - .22, .38, 9mm, .45, .40, or what ? Shot placement is important

Maybe she ran off because she was nearly out of ammo ( revolver, or small capacity semi ? ) Hopefully, she will consider this a learning experience, and 1. Reevaluate her caliber of choice, and 2. Make sure she travels with with spare ammo
( more loaded mags, or speed loaders )

Word to wise: when traveling in combat areas and have probability of fire fight, HAVE PLENTY OF SPARE AMMO !!!

More is better !!

Yeah, I wondered that too, but she's very young, and probably won't do that again. I see it was a Wednesday night. If it happened on the weekend I'd say she was out partying, but who knows....
Well I was out after 12 am last night because of freaking work. I don’t DO after midnight. Not usually. So could have been coming home from work. However, I have my doubts.

For all you who think 2am is no time to be outdoors. weird angle bro.

Do your lights work when you flip a switch? does the water come out off the tap(city)? Does the gas come out of the pipe when you sleep? Does the snow pile up on the roads? Does the garbage pick itself up? Do the nukes babysit themselves? Do the towtrucks, ships, semis walmart, 24/hr convenience stores go on the honor system?

There are 24 hours in a day. If you are an educated, upper middle class, essential worker in a 9-5 type office business. 2am may sound like "What a weird time to be alive..?!?" but, my sheltered and privileged friends,... a LARGE portion of the population works 'over night'... 2am is not a "bad time" to be anywhere you need to be. It's a bad time to be unarmed and oblivious... which obviously she wasn't.

Sitting in HER CAR on a PUBLIC STREET. What, she should jump out of the rolling vehicle while she drives by, and jump in through the sunroof and mash the gas to leave? Why is ANYTIME a bad time to be in YOUR car? (Aside from, yes, ANYTIME is a bad time to be IN CHICONGO, zooyork or any blue held warzone....) and deducing the fact most of us are NOTHING LIKE Chicongaleans, aside from that 2am is like 2pm, but less oblivious mfers walking around like they're 'safe' cuz the 'suns out.'
