Catholic Priest Beheaded in Syria by Al-Qaeda-Linked Rebels as Men and Children Take Pictures and Cheer

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/201...as-men-and-children-take-pictures-and-cheer/#

Syrian Catholic priest Francois Murad killed last weekend by jihadi fighters was beheaded, according to a report by Catholic Online which is linking to video purportedly showing the brutal murder.

As TheBlaze reported last week, Murad, 49, was setting up a monastery in Gassanieh, northern Syria. Last Sunday, on the Christian leader’s Sabbath, extremist militants trying to topple President Bashar Assad breached the monastery and grabbed Murad.

While earlier reports suggested Murad may have been shot to death, Catholic Online reported Saturday: “The Vatican is confirming the death by beheading of Franciscan Father, Francois Murad, who was martyred by Syrian jihadists on June 23.”

The Catholic news service quotes local sources who report that the radical Al-Qaeda-linked Jabhat al-Nusra, or Al-Nusra Front, was behind the savage killing.

In video posted by Live Leak purporting to show the execution, dozens of men and boys are seen cheering on as three men are seated on the ground awaiting their grisly fate.

The men are methodically beheaded one at a time by men holding what appears to be a simple kitchen knife after which the heads are placed on top of the bodies.

According to Catholic Online, the first victim was Murad.

A frenzy ensues, with dozens drawing out their smartphones to capture the bloody scene, as a chorus of Allahu Akbar (“Allah is the greatest”) are sung with jihadi rapture. Several observers are seen moving within inches of the bodies in an effort to capture close-up photos.

Catholic Online is raising alarm that western nations are providing support to the rebels who have shown a proclivity toward persecuting Christians:

This should make it clear to Christians around the world what jihadists are about. Make no mistake. Catholics and [other] Christians around the globe are under dire threat, particularly from the spread of militant Islam. Until the threat is recognized and taken seriously, martyrdoms like this will continue.

Vatican Radio reports that Gassanieh, a village with a majority Christian population, had been under attack by Islamist fighters for the past few weeks, forcing most residents to flee for safety.

It quotes Custos of the Holy Land, Franciscan Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa who says, “Unfortunately Syria has now become a battleground not only between Syrian forces, but also between Arab countries and the international community. And those paying the price are the poor, the young and the Christians. That the international community must put a stop to all this”.

Pizzaballa told the Vatican News Agency, “The world must know that the support of gunmen by the west is helping extremists in killing Syrians.

“With such stances, not a single Christian will remain in the East,” he added.

Vatican Radio writes, “Fr. Mourad was just one of the many men and women religious putting their faith on the front line in Syria, refusing to abandon the communities they serve, Christian and Muslim. They stay because they want to be a sign of hope, light and comfort to people in the midst of destruction.”

Folks, this is the video purporting to show Father Murad’s murder (by beheading), as well as others who were also murdered (in cold blood). It can be viewed here, but please be warned it is EXTREMELY graphic and disturbing (beginning around the 2:50 time-mark). For a few seconds during the priest's beheading, there is heavy pixelization and blurring, but most of the video is clear. These savages are worse than animals......

Francois Murad, Catholic Priest 'Beheaded By Jihadist Fighters In Syria'

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/201...eaded-jihadist-fighters-syria-_n_3527372.html

A Catholic priest has been killed in Syria, it has been confirmed by the official Vatican news agency.

Franciscan Father Francois Murad is said to have died after fighters linked to the jihadist group Jabhat al-Nusra attacked the monastery he was staying at, local sources say.

Catholic Online links to amateur footage purporting to show the 49-year-old's horrific death and reports: "The Vatican is confirming the death by beheading of Franciscan Father, Francois Murad, who was martyred by Syrian jihadists on June 23."

It shows a man the channel understands is the priest, sitting cross-legged with his hands bound, alongside two other men while fighters surround them chanting “Allah Akbar” (God is great).

As the first man, believed to be Father Murad, is beheaded with what appears to be a kitchen knife, several observers are seen stepping close to his body to capture close-up photographs and video.

The site claims Father Murad had been accused of collaborating with the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, though the accusations are unconfirmed.

The official report into Father Murad's death – submitted via the Fides news agency - states he died in Gassanieh, northern Syria. It claims the circumstances of his death “are not fully clear”, but confirms the monastery where he was living had been attacked by militants.

Fides states Father Murad had began the construction of a coenobitic monastery in Gassanieh, shortly after being ordained. At the start of the civil war, the structure was bombed and he moved to the convent of the Custody of the Holy Land for safety.

“Let us pray,” wrote the Custody of the Holy Land Pierbattista Pizzaballa OFM “so that this absurd and shameful war ends soon and that the people of Syria can go back to living a normal life.

"Unfortunately Syria has now become a battleground not only between Syrian forces, but also between Arab countries and the international community."

Speaking to Syria Report, he added: "The world must know that the support of gunmen by the west is helping extremists in killing Syrians. With such stances, not a single Christian will remain in the east."

In May David Cameron announced Britain is to double military support for Syrian rebels to help them withstand the "onslaught" from Assad's regime.

Archbishop Jacques Behnan Hindo, titular of the Syrian Catholic archeparchy in Hassaké-Nisibis told Fides: "The whole story of Christians in the Middle East is marked and made fruitful by the blood of the martyrs of many persecutions.

“Lately, father Murad sent me some messages that clearly showed how conscious he was of living in a dangerous situation, and offered his life for peace in Syria and around the world."

Interesting article......

Congrats President Nobel: Obama Allies Behead Catholic Priest In Syria

http://finance.townhall.com/columni...lies-behead-catholic-priest-in-syria-n1631285

Obama’s war on the Christian religion, particularly the Catholic variety, has claimed another casualty in the Middle East. The Vatican confirmed that “Syrian priest François Murad was killed in Gassanieh, in northern Syria, in the convent of the Custody of the Holy Land where he had taken refuge.… According to local sources, the monastery where Fr. Murad was staying was attacked by militants linked to the jihadi group Jabhat al-Nusra.”

A graphic video of unknown origin- linked below- shows a crowd of Islamic militants gathered in a circle around three men kneeling on the ground. Many of the onlookers were shooting video of the scene from cell phones and other devices.

Each of the kneeling men, in turn, is forced to the ground and their head is sawed off with a butcher knife.

It’s scene that has become too familiar across the globe.

According to sources familiar with Jabhat al-Nusra, they are one of the most violent of the rebel Syrian factions, with roots in the Iraqi civil war, where they fought American soldiers. They are also very successful, controlling large portion of Syria.

And, oh yeah, they are part of the Al Qaida network taking orders from Iraq.

"Let us pray," writes the Custos of the Holy Land Pierbattista Pizzaballa OFM according to Catholic Online "so that this absurd and shameful war ends soon and that the people of Syria can go back to living a normal life." Archbishop Jacques Behnan Hindo, titular head of the Syrian Catholic church said: "The whole story of Christians in the Middle East is marked and made fruitful by the blood of the martyrs of many persecutions. Lately, father Murad sent me some messages that clearly showed how conscious he was of living in a dangerous situation, and offered his life for peace in Syria and around the world."

Thanks President Nobel for helping him out, although, I’m not sure Father Murad really needed your assistance.

So why exactly are we arming Islamic extremists across the Middle East?

Explain to me just how spreading arms and radical ideas even further into the region are in the best interest of the United States and its allies.

I’m not a big fan of Syrian president Assad, but it seems to me that there is little to choose from in Syria. Actually, this is a great opportunity to get Syria to behave better.

Make no mistake either: This war won’t be a pushover like Libya was.

Syria isn’t an isolated Libya. The current Syrian government will get the weapons it needs from Russia to fight the insurgents, because Russia has the means to keep the supply lines open.

One reason why Russia has the means is because as the West pushed harsher terms to Cyprus during their banking crisis this year, Cyprus sought relief from disaster by striking a deal with Moscow.

Those discussions are ongoing.

“On Monday Defence Minister Fotis Fotiou confirmed that recent defence talks with Moscow had centred on a request by Moscow for the use of sea and air facilities on the island,” reported the Cyprus Mail on June 30th. “Russia has been using Limassol port for refueling and supplies its naval vessels for over a year.”

Cyprus has long been subject to divisions between Greek Christianity and Middle East Islam.

In 1974, Turkey, an Islamic country, invaded Cyprus and continues to occupy a large slice of the island. It’s a bone of contention for Greece and Greek Cypriots still.

As a counterpoise, it would appear that Russia is attempting, with some success, to set itself up as a guarantor of the Christian population in the Middle East and the Mediterranean.

“If Cyprus proves to be better off with Russia's financial, political and strategic backing than Greece with the assistance of the European Union,” predicted Gatestone Online last year, “the close relations between the Greeks and the Cypriots might convince Greece that it, too, should turn to Moscow rather than to Brussels for financial and economic help. A strategic realignment in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East might then be in the offing. If the EU and NATO keep regarding the pro-Islamic government in Turkey as their preferred ally, before they know it they might be confronted with an alliance of Russia, Cyprus and Greece – a strong Christian-Orthodox axis against the Turks. And whom would this alliance target after that? “

Who indeed? Almost anyone, since Obama has made a mess of things.

U.S. foreign policy is a disaster and Syria is just the latest symptom.

If I told you 30 years ago that the United States in 30 years would be arming Islamic rebels against Christian populations with Russia acting as benefactors to Christianity, you would have called me crazy.

And crazy is the only way to describe it.

We live in a political world where Chinese communists lecture our country about the virtues of capitalism and the limits of socialism and Russia warns our government about spying on U.S. citizens- while Russian warnings that we are harboring Islamic terrorists go ignored.

In this country Obama has all but declared war on Christians, especially Catholics. Many Catholics have allied with Obama in the mistaken belief that the government's war on capitalism won't spread to a war on religion.

Obama doesn't just want government to replace the banks, however, but the church as well. He can't have another alms-giver out there competing with the government, like Catholic Health Services, competes with Obamacare.

"I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square,” said Chicago Cardinal Francis George. “His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history."

And Obama’s giving it a Russian face.

Oh, how Nobel of him.

Rand Paul: Senate Is Arming Al-Qaeda and Rushing to War in Syria

http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnew...s-arming-al-qaeda-and-rushing-to-war-in-syria

“This is an important moment. You will be funding, today, the allies of al Qaeda.”

That was the declaration Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.; pictured) made on May 21 during a hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Paul’s comments were directed at his colleagues, nearly all of whom voted to send arms to Syrian rebels.

Senators Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) co-sponsored the bill that authorizes “critical support to the Syrian opposition through provision of military assistance, training, and additional humanitarian support.”

The bill sailed through the committee, passing with bipartisan support by a vote of 15-3.

Senator Paul offered two amendments to the bill — officially styled the Syria Transition Support Act — one that would have forbidden the transfer of weapons to the rebel forces fighting to oust the government of current Syrian president Bashar al-Asad, and another that would have prevented the use of U.S. military armed forces in Syria.

Both of Paul’s amendments were rejected by the committee.

Apart from supplying lethal and non-lethal weaponry to Syrian opposition forces, the Menendez-Corker bill contains several other regime-toppling provisions, all of which are boastfully reported by Mendendez on his website. They include:

• “Creation of a $250 million transition fund each year through FY2015 drawn from funds otherwise appropriated for regional transition support”;

• “Sanctions on arms and oil sales to Assad: Targeting any person that the President of the United States determines has knowingly participated in or facilitated a transaction related to the sale or transfer of military equipment, arms, petroleum, or petroleum products to the Assad regime.”; and

• “Amendment to the Syria Accountability Act: To allow for sanctions removal once a transitional government is in place and certain terrorism and WMD criteria have been met.”

Neither Paul’s warnings nor his amendments were enough to counteract the powerful politicians pushing to arm the Syrian rebels. A cadre of lawmakers from seemingly distinct bands of the political spectrum lined up behind the move to add Syria to the list of Middle Eastern countries with U.S.-approved ruling parties. As in the case of Iraq and Afghanistan, these dictators-in-waiting will walk a path to power paved with American money and likely covered in the blood of American soldiers.

Rubio, described by many as a Tea Party favorite, chastised Senator Paul, refuting his allegation that a vote for arming the Syrian rebels was tantamount to giving guns to al-Qaeda.

"I don't think any member of this committee would vote for anything we thought was going to arm al Qaeda," said Rubio.

Mendendez piled on, saying, "Al Qaeda, unfortunately, is well-armed. That is the present reality in Syria."

Senator Corker tried striking a less hostile tone, arguing that arming rebels vetted by Congress — as called for in his bill — would prevent U.S. weaponry from being funneled into more radical segments of the coalition of anti-Assad armed forces.

Seeing through Corker’s false dilemma, Paul responded, saying, “It’s impossible to know who our friends are.” He later said that the vote was nothing more than a “rush to war.”

In an exclusive interview with The New American, Senator Paul pointed out the irony in the fact that the original Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) enacted after September 11, 2001 called for finding and destroying al-Qaeda, while the legislation passed on May 21 by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee would arm known associates of that very organization.

“These people [Syrian rebels] will say they love America knowing that that’s how to get weapons. They lie to us and then shoot us in the back,” Paul explained.

Another bit of irony apparently lost on 15 members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is the fact that the United States has walked this road before. In the 1980s, Congress voted to arm militant Islamic forces under the pretext that the enemy of our enemy was our friend. Then, within 20 years, the very beneficiaries of U.S. military largesse in Afghanistan seized control of that country and reportedly sheltered and trained the men who carried out the attacks of September 11.

One wonders how (or if) the Senate fails to appreciate the destruction that will surely come from once again sowing the wind and reaping the whirlwind that comes from arming those who would do us harm. Some senators, however, seemed determined to deploy troops in every corner of the planet, regardless of the fact these young men and women could be killed by militants armed with weapons supplied by their very own government.

Never one to miss a chance to take his turn banging on the war drum, Senator John McCain mocked an amendment offered by Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.) that would have placed more stringent controls on the type of weapon shipped to Syrian rebels.

"The senator from New Mexico wants to use shotguns against SCUD missiles," McCain said.

Rand Paul has been banging another drum, however. During the hearings on the attack on the American mission in Benghazi, Libya, Paul brought up the possibility that the Obama administration was covering up the existence of a gun running pipeline running throughout the Middle East.

Paul, in fact, tried to get answers to these questions from then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the Senate’s investigation of the Benghazi raid that left four people dead, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. Addressing Secretary Clinton, Paul asked directly, “Is the U. S. involved with any procuring of weapons, transfer of weapons, buying, selling, anyhow transferring weapons to Turkey out of Libya?”

Clinton demurred, claiming that she’d never heard about that allegation.

Undaunted, Paul continued, “It’s been in news reports that ships have been leaving from Libya and that may have weapons, and what I’d like to know is the annex that was close by, were they involved with procuring, buying, selling, obtaining weapons, and were any of these weapons being transferred to other countries, any countries, Turkey included?”

Always the savvy politician, Clinton responded, “Well, Senator, you’ll have to direct that question to the agency that ran the annex. I will see what information is available.”

“You’re saying you don’t know?” asked Paul.

“I do not know,” Clinton said. “I don’t have any information on that.”

Americans have a right to know, however, who’s receiving millions in tax dollars taken from them.

A Reuters article from last August, which detailed a secret order signed by President Obama providing support to Syrian rebel forces opposing the regime of Bashar al-Assad, noted, “Recent news reports from the region have suggested that the influence and numbers of Islamist militants, some of them connected to al Qaeda or its affiliates, have been growing among Assad's opponents.”

Later, The New American covered the same story, writing that “Western governments, brutal Sunni-Arab dictatorships, an assortment of terror groups including al-Qaeda, and other powerful interests have all been backing the uprising since long before violence even broke out last year.”

In a story covering the violence of the Syrian uprising, the BBC added credibility to the accusations:

The al-Qaeda-styled group in Syria is Jabhat al-Nusra li-Ahl al-Sham (the Front for the Protection of the Syrian People).

Like other al-Qaeda affiliated groups, al-Nusra's statements and videos are usually issued by its own media group, al-Manara al-Baida (the White Minaret) in Syria.

Al-Nusra has claimed responsibility for several attacks against the Syrian army, security and shabiha (state-sponsored thugs) since it announced its formation early this year.

Finally, under a headline reading "Al-Qaida turns tide for rebels in battle for eastern Syria,” The Guardian (U.K.) reported:

They try to hide their presence. "Some people are worried about carrying the [black] flags," said Abu Khuder. "They fear America will come and fight us. So we fight in secret. Why give Bashar and the west a pretext?" But their existence is common knowledge in Mohassen. Even passers-by joke with the men about car bombs and IEDs [improvised explosive devices].

According to Abu Khuder, his men are working closely with the military council that commands the Free Syrian Army brigades in the region. "We meet almost every day," he said. "We have clear instructions from our [al-Qaida] leadership that if the FSA need our help we should give it. We help them with IEDs and car bombs. Our main talent is in the bombing operations." Abu Khuder's men had a lot of experience in bomb-making from Iraq and elsewhere, he added.

Regardless of Rand Paul’s efforts to keep the U.S. from running headlong into an armed conflict in Syria and his accurate depiction of the duplicity of those Syrian opposition forces waiting for the shipment of weapons from the United States, the Senate is speedily moving toward awarding al-Qaeda with crates of technologically advanced U.S. weaponry.

The Menendez-Corker bill will now move to Senate floor for debate by the entire body. A member of the staff of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told The New American that he was unsure when the bill would be put on the calendar.

Catholic Priest Beheaded By Our Syrian Rebel 'Allies'

http://news.investors.com/ibd-edito...n-catholic-priest-francois-murad-beheaded.htm

The assault on a monastery and the murder of its priest by Syrian rebels is a stark reminder of the threat to Christians in the Middle East and that the enemy of our enemy is not necessarily our friend.

The Vatican has confirmed the murder by beheading of Syrian Catholic priest Francois Murad in the town of Gassanieh in northern Syria by jihadists belonging to the al-Qaida-linked group Jabhat al-Nusra, or Al-Nusra front.

This raises questions about our involvement in aiding Syrian groups opposed to the regime of Bashar Assad and whether our efforts will result in the same unfortunate results as our support of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

As we recently editorialized, two of the three major anti-Assad fronts — the Syrian Islamic Front and the Syrian Liberation Front — are Islamist, as are 10 of the 12 identified rebel groups.

The most powerful rebel force is Jabhat al-Nusra, with 7,000 fighters. It's a branch of al-Qaida in Iraq that has publicly pledged allegiance to al-Qaida chief Ayman al-Zawahiri.

As we also noted, the Obama administration's announcement that it would send more military aid to the rebel Supreme Military Council was another attempt to pick winners and losers, this time in a conflict we long ignored, over which we have no control and little influence, and in which other major players have quite different desired outcomes.

A video that has gone viral purports to show an execution reminiscent of the execution of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Dozens of men and boys are seen cheering as three men are seated on the ground awaiting their grisly fate. The men are methodically beheaded one at a time by men holding what appears to be a simple kitchen knife, after which the heads are placed on top of the bodies. According to Catholic Online, the first victim was Murad.

"The world must know that the support of gunmen by the West is helping extremists in killing Syrians," said Pierbattista Pizzaballa, head of all Franciscans in the Holy Land, adding that "with such stances, not a single Christian will remain in the East."

The plight of Christians in the Middle East has seemingly escaped the attention of the Obama administration as it basks in its fantasy of an "Arab Spring." In fact, we may be witnessing the onset of an Islamist winter. This time, Obama administration policies and jihadi ambitions, not an obscure Internet video, are to blame.

A particular target of the jihadists has been the Coptic Christians of Egypt.

On April 7, in one of a series of ongoing jihadist attacks, two Copts were killed and 84 were injured by a mob using guns, machetes, stones and possibly hurling Molotov cocktails at mourners exiting St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in the Abbassia District of Cairo. They were mourning the deaths of four Copts in an April 4 attack in Khossus in which a nursery and church were burned.

Making matters worse is the position of U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson. The June 18 edition of Sadi al-Balad reports that lawyer Ramses Naggar, the Coptic Church's legal counsel, said that during Patterson's June 17 meeting with Coptic Christian Pope Tawadros, she "asked him to urge the Copts not to participate" in the demonstrations against Morsi and the Brotherhood.

Why she urged the beleaguered Copts to silently accept their slaughter is unclear. Aren't religious freedom and political dissent rights we cherish and seek to promote?

Her remarks are in tune with an Obama administration pattern of silence regarding the bombing of Christian churches and the murder of their pastors and parishioners from Iraq, which has seen half its Christians flee to Nigeria and Egypt, and now Syria.

It's worse when we support and aid their persecutors.

so where are the pictures? :shr:

Who knows? At the very least, those Mohammadean Jihadist savages who happily snapped photos are circulating them amongst themselves in Syria. But OBVIOUSLY,...some of them made cell-phone videos,....which is precisely how we are able to watch THIS one (which has been posted at LiveLeak) :
