BTW..I wouldn't give two nickels for that new stuff, with the rough cooking surface. Wasted good money trying that Lodge junk they sell these days, and shuffled it off to the Goodwill pronto. So much for advertising. They obviously never cooked with good cast iron pans.
There are utube videos showing how to grind the new Lodge pans so they are smooth. Personally I like my garage/ thrift store finds. Use them every day.

We have cast iron, ceramic, and stainless steel cook wear, but the stainless has been relegated to a cabinet in the garage because food "always" stuck to it and it became a pain. The ceramic is/was my go to skillet for eggs. Then yesterday I ran across the attached (or a version of it) as click bait--the point being heat the pan first, and bring your food to room temp. I dusted off one of the stainless skillets and tried it with my eggs this morning. No stick at all. I may try that one of these days with the cast iron. We had Teflon, but it wore off and I really didn't want to eat the Teflon.

Update.

Wonders never cease! I've been haunting thrift stores and antique malls for older cast iron pieces. Nothing. Well, nothing that wasn't severely warped and cracked.

I came home for Thanksgiving and mentioned to my mom that I have started using cast iron more. Now, my mom does not experiment with cookware. She still uses the mustard yellow Club pans she received when she was married. I have never known her to use anything else.

She proceeds to pull out 3 cast iron skillets. A lighter weight one from a local electric co-op,which she said she likes because it's lighter weight, but really doesn't use.

THEN she takes out the other 2 a friend gave her that she says are far to heavy. A #8 Wagner, and a #8 Erie (pre-Griswold name, but same company). !!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet Jesus. All along, my MOM had what I was looking for, without even knowing it!!!

She is keeping the lighter one she likes, and giving me the 2 older, heavier ones.

Christmas came early this year !
