SNOWFLAKE "Captain Marvel" brings in lowest audience scores in MCU History

Captain Marvel brings in lowest audience scores in Marvel movie history.

Hollyweird still doesn't get it. They continue to make movies pushing the "agenda," despite the fact that movies that do this make less money. We now have yet another example of American audiences rejecting Hollyweird movies as propaganda. :hof:

Oh boy…

The critics may be giving Captain Marvel scores in the low 80’th percentile, but if you ask the audience, it’s the worst movie Marvel has ever produced for the MCU.

According to the website Rotten Tomatoes, the audience is finally weighing in on Captain Marvel now that is has released, and the reviews are abysmal. As of this writing, the audience score is at 35 percent, with over 7,000 reviews in, making this the lowest rated Marvel movie ever made.

For comparison, the previously lowest rated Marvel movie was Thor: The Dark World, which was largely considered the worst Marvel film for years, which sits currently at 67 percent.

To be fair, it’s likely that some of the audience went in prepared to hate the movie beforehand thanks to lead actress Brie Larson making this movie political with social justice adherence. Larson made disparaging comments about white men, and made it clear that this movie was a form of feminist activism.

Most of the audience reviews tend to not mention this political muddying of the water, and point to the fact that the movie is a cookie cutter action hero film led by a wooden performance from Larson playing Carol Danvers. Highlights, however, include Samuel L. Jackson’s performance on screen, as well as an alien cat named “Goose.”

Audience scores aside, even the critic reviews aren’t entirely kind to Captain Marvel despite its 81 percent rating. The overall theme from professional critics seems to be that the movie isn’t groundbreaking in any way, and Larson’s acting isn’t going to win her any awards. Were this a Marvel film without any of the politics attached, one has to wonder what the score would be different.

We’ll soon get to see how the movie did monetarily during its opening weekend, and while the film is mired in controversy and bad reviews, many still expect the movie to do well by virtue of the fact that it’s A: a Marvel movie, and B: the movie leading up to the Russo brother’s finale to the Infinity War saga.

Unconfirmed rumors are already abounding that some in the Avengers cast are displeased Larson and the arrival of Captain Marvel’s character into the MCU, as they feel pushed aside. There are also rumors that Disney CEO Bob Iger is also displeased with the inclusion of social justice messaging into the MCU, and that the Russo brothers would rather not have Danvers in the conclusion to Infinity War, preferring to finish out the saga with the original characters.

Larson has signed a contract for seven films as Captain Marvel, but what her presence will look like within the MCU should Captain Marvel bomb is still up in the air.

As expected, the fake news media, ie Rotten tomatoes, is taking steps to hide just how bad this movie is.

the link is here

https://www.infowars.com/rotten-tomatoes-purges-50000-user-ratings-after-captain-marvel-review-bomb/

Tens of thousands of reviews for the film Captain Marvel were purged from the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, but the deletions didn’t appear to improve the movie’s approval rating by much.

Screenshots of Rotten Tomatoes early Friday showed over 58,000 people had scored the movie an audience rating of 31 percent.

Are you sure about that?
Given that Captain Marvel has indeed been a women more than once, going for the Carol Danvers incarnation was fine. Frankly, I expect the SJW aspect of the movie is probably overblown. However, Brie Larson just had to make it a "Woke" thing, which pissed people off and set expectations. She has every right to speak her opinion on that possible aspect, but she should have at least demurred until the movie had hit the theaters for at least a few days. I'll be happy to watch it - on BluRay though.

Oops. That's what happens when you shoot your mouth off.

The pre-release press around this movie was more toxic than Newark. The lead actress spent literal weeks castigating white males.

I wondered...

Reading the early professional critic reviews, they were almost all tripping over how empowering and awesome it was for a female hero movie... If that is the best you can do, it really must have had issues. The more "neutral"/non-woke reviewers were not all that thrilled about it.

Even from the previews/trailers my wife and I were, meh. Looks much like a female green lantern... and that is not what most would want their movie compared to!

Here is the snotty little girl calling out "white dudes".
Sorry but most of the people who go to see super hero action movies are male.
Sometimes they drag their wife or girlfriend with them just as women sometimes drag their husbands or boyfriends along to watch chick flicks.
Sorry but guys usually don't care whether it's a woman or man super hero, as long as they aren't confronted by a social justice warrior preaching how all white guys are bad.
Marvel has lost it. Not only is this movie going to underperform it's initial expectations, it will turn a lot of people off to Marvel's other movies.

Talk about lack of situational awareness. The studio didn't create the movie in order to give her a platform.

That just might be debatable considering how one corporation after another are shooting themselves in the foot with politically correct projects that fell flat.

Spoke to a woman this morning who will be taking her son to see it tomorrow. I asked her whether she thought it was going to be good. She said she didn't expect much because, she said, "It's just basically set-up for another later movie". I suspect many who actually go already have low expectations whether they knew of larson's misandry or not.

Sorry - Aggrievement doesn't sell. Blame your market - blame the "white dudes" - blame the "system." But don't think for a minute it might be YOU.

Or that sorry little chip on your shoulder.

Sheesh. Whatever happened to "thank all you little people for making me a STAR." As demeaning of the viewership as that statement was (who said that?) it sounds MUCH MORE APPRECIATIVE than the drivel leaving this Snowflake's speaking orifice.

I found it. https://lasvegassun.com/news/2004/feb/23/pushing-the-envelope-oscar-winners-famous-for-memo/

Barbra Streisand, in her 1969 acceptance speech for best actress in "Funny Girl," said she would like to "thank all the little people" behind her victory. Not surprisingly, the backhanded compliment -- however unintentional -- didn't sit well with the "little people" in the unions who worked on the film.
Figures...another slightly less snotty little girl.

This is a disaster of a movie from what I gather. Besides sex-changing Mar-vell (original Captain Marvel) into a woman, they also had the audacity to call Brie "Captain Mary Sue" Larson The Avenger and retcon her in to be Fury's inspiration for the Avengers Inititive. This is ridiculous since there was a movie named Captain America: The First Avenger. It can't be due to age (since Thor is technically the eldest). It seems that everything Disney touches turns to $#!+ (Looking at you, Star Wars).

Allegedly, Marvel/Disney were hedging against it due to the backlash and ordered 2 copies of Avengers Endgame shot, one with Captain Mary Sue beating Thanos almost single-handedly and one where the actual Avengers do almost all the work. Too bad they won't fully abort this Liberal BS, meaning that they won't get any more of my money.

I just saw an unconfirmed report that Elsa is getting a black girlfriend in Frozen 2.
Such is Disney......Drinking the woke-shake of the SJWs. May it go down like a cup from Jim Jones.

'Captain Marvel' Delivers a Massive $153M Domestic Opening and $455M Worldwide
by Brad Brevet

March 10, 2019

Disney's release of Marvel Studios's Captain Marvel gave the domestic box office a much needed jolt after the first two months of the year struggled to compete with 2018. The twenty-first entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe delivered the franchise's seventh largest opening weekend of all time while grossing more over its first three days than the combined totals of any previous three-day weekend so far this year.

With an estimated $153 million, Captain Marvel proved a massive success, bringing in the third highest March opening of all-time, and don't be surprised to see actuals push the film's total a bit higher come Monday afternoon. Historically, the performance ranks among openings that include The Dark Knight ($158.4m opening), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($158m opening), Rogue One ($155m opening) and The Hunger Games ($152.5m opening), the four of which representing a total domestic gross ranging from $408-530+ million.

GET MORE: Take a look at Captain Marvel's opening compared to similar debuts!

On average, the 20 previous releases in the MCU delivered a 2.76x multiplier, which would suggest Captain Marvel's run would finish around $422 million based on the film's domestic opening weekend. That said, should it manage to top Iron Man 3's $409 million domestic run it would rank as the fifth largest film in the MCU and, in terms of genre competition, it has a few weeks all to itself before WB's Shazam! opens on April 5.

It is interesting to note exits, which show the film playing to an opening weekend crowd that was 55% male and 45% female, which, along with Black Panther and Ant-Man and the Wasp, is the smallest gender divide among films in the MCU, but nowhere near the 52% female crowd Wonder Woman played to back in June 2017. Additionally, 64% of the film's opening weekend crowd was aged 25 or older, which ranks as one of the older audiences for an MCU film, while it earned an "A" CinemaScore.

Internationally, Captain Marvel delivered an estimated $302 million, making it the fifth highest international opening weekend of all-time and the sixth largest worldwide debut ever. Leading the way was the film's opening in China, which is estimated at $89.3 million, which ranks as the third largest MCU opening weekend ever in the market behind Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War. Behind China is South Korea with a $24.1 million debut followed by the UK ($16.8m), Brazil ($13.4m), Mexico ($12.8m), Australia ($10.7m), Indonesia ($10.1m), Russia ($9.8m), France ($9.2m), Germany ($7.8m), India ($6.9m), Thailand ($6.6m), Taiwan ($6.4m), Philippines ($6.3m), Malaysia ($5.6m), Italy ($5.5m) and Hong Kong ($5.2m). Next weekend the film will open in Japan serving as the only market where the film has yet to be released.

Universal's How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World finished in the runner-up position with an estimated $14.7 million for a domestic cume just shy of $120 million as it enters its third week in release. The film also added another $21.7 million internationally this weekend, for an overseas cume that now totals $315.5 million for a global tally topping $435 million.

Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral dipped -55% in its second weekend, delivering an estimated $12.05 million, pushing the film's domestic cume just shy of $46 million.

WB's The LEGO Movie 2 entered its fifth week in release with an estimated $3.8 million as it continues to inch toward $100 million domestically. The film also added another $3.9 million internationally this weekend for an international cume that is now $67.3 million, and a worldwide gross totaling $164.4 million.

Rounding out the top five is Fox's Alita: Battle Angel, which dipped -56% for an estimated $3.2 million three-day and a domestic cume that now totals just over $78 million. The film also added $11.6 million from 74 overseas markets, lifting the international cume over $300 million for a worldwide tally that now stands at $382.6 million.

Elsewhere, Neon's Apollo 11, which expanded into 405 theaters after playing in 120 IMAX exclusive locations last weekend, rounded out the top ten with an estimated $1.3 million for a $3,212 per theater average.

In limited release, Reliance's Badla brought in an estimated $614,328 from 94 locations ($6,535 PTA); Lionsgate's The Kid delivered an estimated $513,000 from 268 locations ($1,912 PTA); A24's Gloria Bell debuted with an estimated $154,775 on 5 screens in NY and LA, for a per screen average of $30,955; Kino Lorber's re-release of Babylon brought in an estimated $20,096 from one theater; and Greenwich's Ferrante Fever opened with an estimated $4,000 from one location.

Overall, this is the first weekend in 2019 that saw the overall weekend gross manage to outperform the same weekend in 2018, doing so by a strong +48% based on estimates. The year, however, is still pacing -27% behind 2018's record pace, but with so many major releases still in the pipeline 2019 should start closing that gap sooner than later.

Next weekend Paramount's animated feature Wonder Park will open in ~3,500 locations; Lionsgate's Five Feet Apart will debut in 2,600 theaters; and Focus will go nationwide with Captive State in ~2,200 theaters.

You can check out all of this weekend's estimated results right here and we'll be updating our charts with weekend actuals on Monday afternoon.

Saw it today with my daughter. Average movie for the genre, heavy on the "girl power" message but not unlike most other woman-lead movies (the predictable Just a Girl by No Doubt set the mood for one of the battle scenes).

Wish I hadn't watched the Brie Larson vid posted above before going because I spent half the movie wondering why she didn't forfeit her lilly-white self from the job based on her principles (term used loosely). The studio better get a handle on her before she becomes more dramatic than the role she's playing.

Man... I was REALLY hoping this movie would tank.

I just don't understand why people insist on financing their own demise?

I haven't seen it--doubt I ever will--but I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that Mar-vell is a completely separate character in the movie. He's played by Jude Law, I believe. The trailer sucked, and the character played by Larson just looked completely boring, IMHO. If I were to ever lay my eyes on this film, it would be after it's hit the $5 bin at the grocery store, AND almost solely for Ronan the Accuser. (His story is probably the only interesting one in the entire movie anyway.)

Ah, nevermind. They were stupid enough to genderbend Mar-Vell. Jude Law was originally listed as Mar-Vell though. Well, definitely not seeing the movie now. :shk::shk:

In short Law is not Mar-vell or Marvel.

Minimal back story of Ronan

In general, it is middle of the road Marvel film, frankly still not the crapfest Ironman III was but that's just my opinion.

Lots of "girl power" moments.

We saw it this evening...it is cookie cutter marvel comic movie. Typical action, there was some funny lines "Mother Flerken". The lead character is meh, and frankly probably got a movie solely for "girl power" checkbox needed filled by disney, they could have finished the Thanos story arc without another character added to the mix. People giving it 10's or 1's are doing so because Brie opened her pie hole and spouted some sjw stuff.

I enjoyed it, but the story felt cobbled together in the writers room. The girl power aspect wasn't as bad as it could have been. I still put it on the story level of Thor and Black Panther as my least liked movies.
