Just found canning lids and canning lids with rings at Dollar General. I bought all they had. 72- regular lids and 24 lids and rings. Golden Harvest is the brand name.

I was at Fleet Farm last Friday (N MN) and they had stacks of cases of regular pint jars. I think they were Ball, if I remember correctly. Walked right by as I have more than enough jars to cover the Apocalypse.

Still keeping a watch for boxes of lids, but in no real need of them for next fall, anyway. Will grab them if I see them.

My Kroger store had boxes of regular and wide mouth flats, and boxes of regular mouth bands w/lids. I got 4 boxes of lids only, as this is a Green Tomato Relish making year, and sauerkraut soon. There'll be more, I'm hopeful, but didn't want to hog it up.

I have plenty of lids, however, I will be buying a couple of extra boxes for trade if the need becomes necessary.

in the old days the sealing ring material would dry out with age and you couldn't long term store them >>> new material they are using for the Ball brand stays pliable - they don't even require a pre-heat anymore ...

buying a "sleeve" is a good bank account to have for a SHTF ...

Told my wife about this and have to see if it's stocked locally, we already have a good stock pile of lids but we can stock up on more.

Just came home from buying 4 - 36ct flats of regular lids. That gives me 216 dozen regular lids. I will buy more as I find them.

As Jeep says"" Canning lids and rings are like ammo, you can never have enough for the long term. """"

What are people’s thoughts on the Golden Harvest lids? Are they as good as Ball and Kerr?

I've never had a problem with the Golden Harvest lids. The only ones tht ever gave me trouble were those cheap Mainstays brand lids sold at Walmart. Those had several seal failures during pressure canning, close to one jar in every batch. I gave the ones I had remaining to my nephew who only uses them when he uses canning jars for storing dry things or non-food items.

Can/will you share your recipe, pretty please?

My wife put up about 100 or more Golden Harvest brand lids back about 8 years ago (before her cancer).

I pulled them out and canned strawberry jam and tomatoes (water bath method) last year during the shortage.

I have had no problems with the older Golden Harvest lids.

Noticed this at walmart also. A whole endcap with Golden Harvest jars. Only regular lid pint and quart size. No wide mouth, but price seemed reasonable

I went to the Winco market in my local big city in upper Northern California today. They had regular mouth pint and quart jars, both Ball and Kerr. They also had Kerr wide mouth lids, no regular. First time they’ve had lids in almost a year. I bought a few of each item.

I’m hoping to do a lot of canning this year, both garden vegetables and meat. I feel the need to get ready for whatever may come in the future...

I have never seen any wide-mouth Golden Harvest jars. I believe they are manufactured by the same Ball/Kerr company. GH lids have performed just as well as the Kerr ones I have.

For the first time in months, I saw canning lids--wide mouth--at the store (Smith's) today. Kerr brand, might have been a dozen boxes.

Here locally there's a limit of two boxes of lids, no matter which size you buy. So now I'm curious as to what other places are doing, any limits on canning lids?
