Saved, to glorify God.
I have been seeing a teddy bear(too tiny for what you pay in my opinion) sold in England for about $25 American that YOU STICK IN THE MICROWAVE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND THE WHEAT BERRIES INSIDE WILL STAY WARM FOR A LONG TIME, KINDA LIKE A BEAR SHAPED HOT WATER BOTTLE.

Couln't you make your own?? I was thinking that my daughter made raw RICE heating pads that worked the same way. Why not get a like new teddy from Goodwill for a buck or two, and empty out the stuffing and replace with wheat berries or raw rice and have the very same thing. NUKE IT in the microwave for a couple of minutes and it should stay warm for at least an hour. (Careful not to over heat or burn could result)

WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL, 60 YEARS AGO, I WOULD HAVE BEEN ECTSTATIC TO HAVE SUCH A TEDDY BEAR. Our house was bitterly cold in Michigan winter and mama would heat up a pillow by the potbelly stove when it was time to go to bed, and we would clutch it and jump into our icy bed and try to get to sleep before it rapidly cooled off. This teddy bear should stay warm for at least an hour.

Even a child who is physically warm enough would cherish the warmth of a heated teddy bear because of the reassurance it would provide against lightning, monsters, ghosts, the dark and other things that scare kids at night.

Good idea. My kids love the hot water bottle when they don't feel well...and Hot cocoa in front of the fire place when they do. Warmth is always comforting.

Most stuffed bears are made of polyester inside and out, and I don't think that would do well in the microwave. However, it would be possible to cut out two fat outlines of a teddy bear shape from cotton flannel, sew them together, and fill them with rice, cherry pits, or wheat berries. On one side, I'd either draw or embroider a face before sewing them together.

rice should work. I have a friend that filled an old sock about 2/3 full of rice and she nukes it every night to use in the place of a hot water bottle. Works fine. A teddy that you make and stuff with rice like Stray cat suggested should be fine. You would have to embroider the eyes, nose and mouth. Ever notice how many 'cats' we have on the board? hardly ever see a mouse!

That sound's like an excellent idea and...

If there ever comes the day when door to door food confiscation take's place, they'll never think to take all of your teddy bears. ;)

I actually had a dream about this a few years back. There was a door to door food fleece going on (for the greater good BS) and I let them rest upon my bean bag chairs and then off they went never knowing where they sat their keisters. :groucho: V

Try whole feed corn in your bear or a bag. Stays hot a lot longer! I used mine this morning when I got up because my feet have been freezing! I make corn bags to give as small gifts for family or friends.

Straycat- actually, the synthetics make great rice bags, and I don't see any reason a polyester or other synthetic stuffed animal wouldn't work well. In the microwave, that is.

If you wanted to heat them the "old fashioned" way- in the oven- you'd need wool, cotton or linen for safety.

This reminds me of the books that Laura Ingals-Wildler wrote. In one story they found a doll and it was wet. So they put it by the stove to dry out. Trouble was, it started to move. Found out it was filled with pop corn.

flax seed can be used too.

You don't say? For some reason I was always under the impression that synthetics would melt pretty quickly in the microwave, but then, I've never actually tested it. I will defer to greater experience in this subject. :D

Absolutely 2nd the rice idea! I have a rice sock I made out of an actual tube sock with a knot tied in the end and about a cup of rice in it. Heck, you could even buy a teddy bear, gut it (lol, it just seems wrong to say), fill it with rice, and sew it right back up!
