Veg Broccoli vs Cauliflower

There was not much broccoli available where I shop this fall and I really need to grow a good deal of it for the greens. One place was sent cauliflower instead of broccoli and I wonder if anyone knows how it compares to broccoli nutritionally? Oh, and flavor, too.

I unfortunately have to give the heads away of either of these plants, but if cauliflower if close to broccoli in flavor and nutrition, I'm thinking I ought to plant some while I can still get it.

If anyone can give me an answer to this I'd sure be grateful!

I don't know, but usually this with more color have more nutrition (over simplified about antioxidants having alternating carbon bonds). For me, broccoli always is easier to grow.

Cauliflower will slightly resemble cabbage in taste.
Nutritionally they're both good.

On the keto diet, cauliflower is used as a substitute for a lot of things

Thanks. I've heard that cauliflower is harder to grow than broccoli, but since I only need the leaves, I thought I'd try it, if it was nutritionally similar. But my little feed store just found out that they can order broccoli plants next week, so I'll have what I need after all, and lots of it!

They're both cole family, cauliflower may have the edge for eye health/nutrition, but brocolli tends to win over all with more vitamin k and some other stuff that escapes me at moment.

I always have better luck with cauliflower than broccoli. Broccoli heads will stunt if there's a freeze, while the cauli seems to do okay if we get a frost and still gives a full size head. We're in zone 9a, btw.

I think it is all a matter of taste. I prefer cauliflower myself, but DH hates it with a passion and refuses to eat it. (He says it looks like "brains".) On the other hand, he likes broccoli, so broccoli it is. (I have seeds for broccoli but I gather it is too late to start them now, even though we are in a mild climate. I'm dithering over whether to risk a trip to the nursery or not; I've only been off the property 3 times since the March shutdown, all necessary things.)

I had to go to the nursery in my larger town to pick up kale and broccoli plants yesterday. The new lady there who just bought the place is very nice and she was understanding about keeping her distance. She handled the plant containers but nothing else and I will let them sit outdoors as long as I can while I prepare the containers in the greenhouse. I did/do sanitize my hands after handling these things. I'm sort of an old pro at it by now, as what everyone is doing with this so-called pandemic, I've been doing for well over ten years every flu season.

This year, I had not been to my larger town since March 10th!

My greenhouse roof has been rebuilt with clear Lexan panels and I'm hoping the brighter light will really help all my winter plantings grow.
