It is considered to be extremely bad form to brag, but hey, sometimes bad form can be a lot of fun, right? For those of you who've been following the saga of the '68 Ford F100 pickup I bought several months ago, I entered another local car show today.

I won two prizes!!!

The first was a certificate for "Best Ford Vehicle" and the second was a plaque for "Most Original Vehicle." Unlike some shows, the show organizers brought in professional judges from the Gulf Coast.

Frankly, I expected to win "Most Original" because I've learned that this has little to do with how pretty the vehicle is. The judges want to see original, OEM parts on everything, even if they are ratty/dirty/broken, etc. As an example, in that category, which in some shows is called the "Survivor" class, original torn upholstery gets more points than pretty re-upholstered seats and original paint scores more points than repainted bodies do, no matter how nice the paint is. My truck is 100% original.

I had a build sheet on my windshield that specifically explained that it was a working truck and not a show truck or garage queen. If fact, the bed was still loaded with firewood for the upcoming winter. What blew me away was that I won the second award for "Best Ford Vehicle." The reason I was surprised was that there were other Fords there that - hands down - were better vehicles than mine, depending on how you judged them. I'm talking about better, built and detailed engines, overall expense, custom bodywork and paint, fancy upholstery, etc. Understand that the "Best Ford Vehicle" category is not for the most original vehicle.

Oh, well. Whenever someone is handing me money or awards, I steadfastly believe that it's bad form to interrupt them so I dilligently kept my mouth shut (except to thank the judges and the audience) ;-)

This show was held as a fundraiser at a local church and they also sold homemade box lunches. As many of you know, church ladies almost always know their way around a kitchen so the lunches were delicious.

Congratulations Doc! My '64 would never win those prizes since it has been repainted, but I'm proud as a peacock of her...

Good to hear! Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with the truck. That truck has a good patina-broken in but not worn out. Collectors eat that stuff up! And as time goes on, that truck just gets more valuable.
