Will this result in co-ed camping?
Owner (Eagle Scout) has watched this with interest.

Maybe I didn't say that quite right.

Co-ed camping is "encouraged" - but Owner says the Scouts for some time have adopted a "Child Safe" methodology.

A situation where there can be a single adult leader and a single Scout (male or female) never happens.

It always goes to a "two on one" situation. Two Scouts - one leader. Or two leaders - one scout.

This to control "child abuse": there is always someone nearby to "rat out" an abusive situation.

One imagines with "sleeping arrangements" the Scouts have a similar rule.

Owner has described the Scout sleeping arrangement as being a parallel to the "bathroom rule" for civilized society.

"Male Tents" and "Female tents." (i.e. Men's room/Ladies room)

Not to say that all the pitfalls of "trans" anything might need to be sorted out - just as in bathrooms.

Or that (my thought) it might fall back into the "two on one" modus for sleeping on a shortage of tents.

Not new.

This was planned about 5-10 years ago when the organization starting allowing homosexual leadership and homosexual scouts. In direct contravention of their own code of morals, etc, they allowed this to happen. RUMINT is that the legal cases coming out of current and former scouts suing BSA for being molested by leadership started the 2-deep leadership program requiring 2 adult leaders to be present whenever there was anything going on with the scouts. Those cases also racked up the legal fees resulting in some area councils selling off property to pay for those fees.

Once BSA started opening their doors to the mentally ill (homosexuals and those who have gender dysphoria) the move to change the name to just 'Scouts' went active. Now, homosexuals, and anything in between, boys and girls can join what was formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America. The Girl Scouts are not happy with this move as they have complained that by allowing girls into the former BSA program, it will deplete the numbers of girls joining the Girl Scouts.

BSA leadership has also changed from where it was a scout executive there is now a different name for that position, something like district commissioner, and there has been a major restructure of the councils to absorb smaller councils into one large council thereby forcing smaller troops in remote locations to travel hours to reach the main council office to get supplies, patches, uniforms, etc.

There is also more supervision, at least in this area, when it comes to fund raising projects. At one time, troops could hold car washes, bowl-a-thons, or similar events to gain funding for camping trips and the annual summer camp. Now, with the new council structure, no longer can those troops hold such events and are now forced to rely on selling flavored popcorn. Not kidding, that's what they are forced to do in this area and if they don't turn in their funds from those sales, the council office will not release awards, merit badges, or anything else to the troops.

What was once a good program to provide morals, training, skills, and responsibility to young males, is now a travesty and a disgrace. As an Eagle Scout, all these moves disgust me.

Side note, a few weeks back I saw a troop form up in a parking lot for a weekend camping trip. There were 3 female leaders - scout masters by the patch on their uniform and 3 male leaders. Very strange to see the females in that role. Not saying they can't do it, just its a little different to see them in a role that was normally reserved for a father of one of the scouts in the troop.

Not only has this once great program been subverted and sacrificed at the altar of woke-tard stupidity, the Girl Scout program is going to take it hard as well. Thus ending 2 programs that provided life skills and instilled a sense of responsibility and confidence.

I still see parents getting excited about their kids going into BSA, or graduating from high school and going to college or military. They want the best for little Johnny and Susie.

I walk away when being around somebody that brags about their trophy kids being indoctrinated from cradle to grave.

If you are blind to whats going on this late in the game, then I'm not going to break the news to you.

They have sold their "Ranch" or camp area, to cover their legal fees a few years ago in our Omaha Council Area. It is a shame that the institution has gone away.

Little Sioux Scout Ranch, over 2K acres in the Loess Hills. I was there as a youth for the 'ribbon (twine) cutting. My troop provided a model patrol and camped out overnight and made tube biscuit donuts the next day for the big wigs. You know, real camp cooking stuff like we used to do. We even friend them in [gasp!] lard. Spent somewhere around 2 full months there over the years including one international event I was on staff for.

Huge potential, lots of investment including literally tornado-proof 'bunkers' built after the fatal hit there in 2008. They were above ground and rated for at least F3 or F4 direct hits. 18" thick walls, heavy steel shutters and doors.

Omaha is home to Mid-America Council, the largest in the country. We used to have some amazing events that were very well funded by various groups. Nowadays I wonder if they can manage a weenie roast.

2 nephews made Eagle and I was there to present each with their own hiking staff. One-of-a-kind things, not the thin mop handles we had as official gear back in the 70's. Their sister made Eagle earlier this year after she turned 18, due to the wokeness of the Council; they waved the age rules for her when they didn't have a girls sub-troop for her to join in time to make the minimum time in grade requirements until she was 18 + 6 months or so. I did not attend nor send a gift.

I'm an Eagle of the old order as it were. I do not recognize the descendant organization. I retired as a Scoutmaster 9 years ago when we left AZ because I could see where things were heading and didn't want to be trapped into something.

I'm sorry that you're seeing an important part of America die. The Boy Scouts have produced some great men, which is likely not true these days.

In my hometown we once had 4 troops simultaneously. 3 of them for decades, the 4th was a community rather then denominational. That same troop and one of the other both produced Scouts who saved lives. One entered a burning house when I was still in grade school, saved 2 children. 2 more lost because he could not enter a 3rd time. Honor Medal with Crossed Palms and acclaimed in Boy's Life magazine.

The 2nd was a year behind me. He saved his brother and received the Medal of Merit. 5 years later almost to the very day he was a freshman at the Univ. of Northern Iowa when he again intervened under almost identical circumstances (glass door, severed artery, improved tourniquet, etc). By then he was no longer registered with the BSA and was not recognized by same. But for the first his entire Junior High was present for the presentation. He was a Freshman by then.

This rebranding reflects the continuing efforts to welcome everyone to experience the benefits of Scouting
IRVING, Tex. (May 7, 2024) – The Boy Scouts of America today announced that it will rebrand to Scouting America, reflecting the organization’s ongoing commitment to welcome every youth and family in America to experience the benefits of Scouting. The change will go into effect on February 8, 2025, the organization’s 115th anniversary.
This announcement also comes as the organization celebrates the fifth anniversary of welcoming girls into Cub Scouting and Scouts BSA programs. Scouting America currently serves more than 176,000 girls and young women across all programs, including over 6,000 who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
“Though our name will be new, our mission remains unchanged: we are committed to teaching young people to be Prepared. For Life,” said Roger A. Krone, president and chief executive officer of Scouting America. “This will be a simple but very important evolution as we seek to ensure that everyone feels welcome in Scouting.”
Scouting America builds on the organization’s 114 years of helping America’s youth. Its ongoing goal is to provide young people with a safe environment where they can learn meaningful life skills and have fun, educational experiences, fostering their growth and future outcomes as leaders, and be prepared for life. At the same time, values instilled by the Scout Oath and Law help prepare young people for lives of purpose and impact.
More than 130 million Americans have been through Scouting programs since its founding in 1910, and currently, more than 1 million youth, including both men and women, are served by 477,000 dedicated adult volunteers in local councils throughout the country. To date, more than 2.75 million youth have earned Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.
In addition to supporting the nation’s youth, Scouting America will continue to be an important asset to strengthen our communities, having provided more than 7 million hours of volunteer services for community improvement and other projects across the country annually.
“Scouting America provides a welcoming, safe environment where youth can become the best version of themselves by learning from and respecting each other,” said Krone. “I encourage everyone to join us and experience the benefits of Scouting.”
About Scouting America
Scouting America provides the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training, which helps young people be “Prepared. For Life.®”
Scouting America welcomes all of America’s youth into its programs. Our goal is to give them fantastic experiences in the outdoors, and elsewhere, where they can grow with us in a safe environment. More than 130 million Americans have been through our programs since our founding, and currently more than 1 million youth are served by 477,000 dedicated adult volunteers in local councils throughout the country.

About the time of the first scandal I was recruited for an IT position. I turned it down because I figured bankruptcy loomed large in their future. Still glad I didn't take the job.

Got the same email announcement. Disappointing.

I am an Eagle Scout as is my younger son. This crap started happening when he was finishing his Eagle project. He rushed to complete it under the wire to make sure that his awards had BSA on them.

I've had some of the best adventures in my life in Scouting or as a result of Scouting. As an adult volunteer of many years, I came to appreciate the experience of watching and coaching Scouts growing into responsible young American men. They can be a very critical group, but they have skills that most adults in this country may never master.

In addition to having the privilege to work with talented young men, the active / involved families tend to be of the same mind. My absolute best friends are couples (and Scouts) whose kids were in Scouts with my kids and are still friends as adults.

One of the best features of Scouting is inculcating leadership skills. Few kids will be motivated by their parents and their friends' parents trying to teach them, but, they will hang on every word of somone a year old two older. It is like magic watching them sit quietly with full attention given to older Scouts teaching or sharing stories / experiences. You'd be hard pressed to think that learning how to pack your backpack, preventing bears from eating your food, and dealing with foot issues in the wilderness was so captivating.

I hope this a just a marketing ploy and not the death knell of yet another wildly beneficial institution which has supported traditional American civic values.

actually, i don't think it's gone away and i think it could be a good thing.
the pride of being a good honorable scout has fallen to the wayside.
so to combine boys and girls I think is a good thing.
why is everyone so negative and pessimistic. y'all BOJ???.
and no trans, gay, bi, freaks.
teach boys and girls how to be good americans. teach ethics and honor.
help the elderly cross the street, not rob them.

oh yes, had great times. don't want ucky girls to have fun and honor.
what, you only want to hang out with boys. now whos strange.

It is horrible. Girl scouts in my day was boring. I was happy to go to Methodist camps while growing up. They were co-ed, not a big deal, and they were my sanity for 1-2 weeks out of each year of my miserable childhood. The Methodists are most likely singing wokey-camp songs by the fire now. Our culture is dying.

Spent most of my adult life raising my 3 boys in this organization. Two are Eagles and I am very proud of them. The fathers and mothers who helped lead the local troop sacrificed so much of their time, skill, and money. It's sad that politics has overtaken a once venerable institution dedicated to teaching young men life skills needed to be leaders in the world.

My husband is an Eagle. Our boys participated, until they started accepting gay scouts. My husband was a scoutmaster. My husband stepped down from that position, because of the nightmare logistics that having a gay scout would cause. Just talking through a camping trip with the local leadership made him decide that it wasn't worth the risk to our family for him to be responsible for such a thing. He's a nurse. One accusation would ruin his career. Our boys left because they didn't want to switch troops and all their friends were moving over to Trail Life.

We haven't done Girl Scouts since my oldest daughter (who did for one year-she didn't like it). Some of our daughters did American Heritage girls, and Himself and the Boys did Trail Life for awhile, but it wasn't the same and eventually they stopped. Himself was in the BSA for over 40 years before the switch.

Summer Texan, with all respect, it is a tragedy that the BSA started accepting girls. For both boys AND girls. I agree that the Girl Scouts lost their way long before the BSA did, however, girls and boys need spaces without the opposite gender, especially as children and during puberty. This has nothing to do with ability, and everything to do with the fundamental differences in the way males and females process information. Along with the fact that generally speaking, girls mature slightly faster than boys do.

Also, BSA does accept gay scouts, and trans, and gay leaders.
