MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The latest developments on a planned Black Lives Matter protest at the Mall of America (all times local):

1:45 p.m.

Hundreds of protesters are walking out of the Mall of America, chanting, "What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now!"

The protesters left the mall Wednesday afternoon and were walking toward a light-rail train station outside the massive suburban Minneapolis mall.

Black Lives Matter activists organized the rally as a way to pressure authorities to release footage of a black man who was shot and killed by Minneapolis police last month.

Dozens of stores closed their security gates ahead of the expected protest, and police were patrolling the area.

---

1 p.m.

Several stores in Mall of America are closing ahead of an expected protest organized by Black Lives Matter.

More than a dozen stores had shut their gates by early Wednesday afternoon.

Among them were a Starbucks and a Barnes and Noble bookstore. Both stores are near the mall's rotunda, a central gathering point at the massive retail center in suburban Minneapolis.

Managers at both shops directed inquiries to corporate communication offices.

---

12:30 p.m.

Special staff members are stationed at every Mall of America entrance ahead of a protest expected to draw hundreds of people to the massive mall in suburban Minneapolis.

Black Lives Matter organizers say the Wednesday rally is meant to pressure authorities to release footage of a black man who was shot and killed by Minneapolis police last month.

Specialized event staff members were searching guests' bags at every entrance of the nation's largest mall an hour ahead of the expected protest. Mall security guards have also cordoned off parts of a central mall rotunda.

Mall officials and Bloomington police have declined to explain their security plans. A judge banned three demonstration organizers from going to the mall, but said she couldn't bar other unnamed protesters from attending.

---

10:25 a.m.

Gov. Mark Dayton says 30 Minnesota State Patrol officers will help handle an expected protest at the Mall of America.

Local Black Lives Matter organizers planned the Wednesday demonstration to pressure authorities to release video footage of a 24-year-old man who was fatally shot by Minneapolis police. Mall officials tried to block the protest, arguing the mall was on private property, but a judge only barred three organizers from attending.

Neither the mall nor Bloomington police have said how they will respond to the demonstration. But Dayton said Wednesday that 30 state patrol officers will be on scene to support local police.

Dayton says he's sympathetic to protesters' concerns, but says the mall is private property.

Black Lives Matter organizer Kandace Montgomery says she expects hundreds of people at the afternoon protest.

---

1:45 a.m.

Activists are planning a Black Lives Matter demonstration that they say could bring hundreds of protesters to the Mall of America on the day before Christmas Eve.

The protest Wednesday is aimed at drawing attention to the police shooting last month of a black Minneapolis man, Jamar Clark. The 24-year-old died the day after he was shot in north Minneapolis by police responding to an assault complaint.

The mall sought a court order blocking the planned protest. A judge barred three organizers from attending the demonstration but said she doesn't have the power to prevent others from showing up to demonstrate.

A similar demonstration drew hundreds of protesters to the mall last December and forced some stores to close.

Bloomington police have not said what security measures the mall may put in place to curtail the protest.

Hundreds walk out of nation's largest mall during Black Lives Matter rally, demand justice

Kyle Potter, The Associated Press
Wed, 23 Dec 2015 14:04:00 CST

MINNEAPOLIS - Stores closed their gates, kiosks were covered and even Santa left his sleigh at the Mall of America shortly before hundreds of protesters began chanting for justice during a Black Lives Matter protest on Wednesday.

The protesters gathered in the mall's central rotunda on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, and then abruptly walked outside. Many chanted "What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now!" Police urged onlookers out of the mall's central rotunda, threatening arrest.

Organizers said protesters, who were heading to a nearby light-rail train station, wanted to draw attention to the police shooting last month of Jamar Clark. The 24-year-old black man died the day after he was shot by Minneapolis police responding to a recent assault complaint.

A similar demonstration last December drew hundreds of demonstrators angry over the absence of charges following the police killings of unarmed black men in New York City and Ferguson, Missouri. Stores in the mall had to close, and dozens of people were arrested.

The privately owned mall said another demonstration would mean lost sales. The massive retail centre in the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington houses an amusement park and more than 500 shops spread across four floors, attracting shoppers from around the globe.

Neither mall officials nor Bloomington police said what security measures they put in place to prepare for the protest, though special event staff members were searching bags and stationed at every mall entrance. Security guards cordoned off parts of the central rotunda, and officers from several cities patrolled inside.

Dozens of stores had closed their gates shortly before the protest started.

The mall sought a court order blocking the planned protest. A judge on Tuesday barred three organizers from attending the demonstration, but said she doesn't have the power to block unidentified protesters associated with Black Lives Matter — or the movement as a whole — from showing up.

Bloomington Police Deputy Chief Denis Otterness confirmed officers would be at the mall, but declined to discuss their plans for handling the protest.

"We're just not releasing that at this point," he said. "Our number one priority is the safety of everybody out at the Mall of America today."

Gov. Mark Dayton also told reporters early Wednesday that 30 Minnesota State Patrol officers will be on scene at the local police department's request. He said he sympathizes with protesters' concerns, but he stressed that the mall is private property.

Kandace Montgomery, one of three organizers barred by the judge's order, said the group isn't deterred by the ban. She declined to say if she or her fellow organizers still planned to go to the mall, but she said she expects at least 700 people to show up — including some who are prepared to be arrested.

On one of the busiest shopping days of the year, Montgomery said the retail mecca is the perfect venue for their demonstration to pressure authorities involved in the investigation of Clark's death to release video footage.

"When you disrupt their flow of capital ... they actually start paying attention," she said. "That's the only way that they'll hear us."

Does anybody really care about Black Lives Matter except in the negative way??

As I see it, the organizational framework of this group and others like "Occupy" to whatever degree they're physically linked are important in terms of what manner they'll be "used" in the upcoming election, and afterwards. Also, as with their late 1960s and 1970s predecessors, there is always the possibility of more "militant" spin off groups since the ideology espoused is essentially akin to those prior/dormant groups.

Both Occupy and Black Lives Matter have a major connection. Both were funded by George Soros. A bunch of the protesters are paid, and the transportation was paid by him as well. Remember the "news article" after Occupy where the demonstrators went to the press when Soros stiffed them?

Doesn't anyone else find it funny that the majority of the protesters are white???

My guess is that they lose support every time they behave badly. I'm certainly not sympathetic to their cause in the least at this point. The manner in which they latch onto thugs as victims removes any credibility they might have had. At this point they could be using a very legitimate example but I'm not listening to anything they have to say.

They keep on demanding 'justice' and they just might get it. I would be a lot more sympathetic if black on black crime didn't kill 35X more blacks than whites kill blacks or cops kill blacks. But I guess those lives don't matter, huh?? And black lives don't seem to matter at the abortion mills either do they? No. Black lives only matter within a very small framework with these people. Turn off the entitlements and then maybe they'll start to get the justice they deserve.

They're not the only "revolutionary" movement to do that. Look up Horst Wessel or Che Guevara as examples.

From what I've read here and elsewhere, both #BLM and the Occupukes were arranged from behind the scenes by communist groups affiliated with the peeps in the WH through a few other orgs so as not to be direct. There was info on the long Occupukes thread about their history and beginnings. I remember the first #BLM protests in NYC, they had nice professionally printed signs with "ANSWER" at the bottom, IIRC. Another point is that the Occupukes never gained much traction at all, in fact after a while they were roundly loathed. Same with with #BLM, they aren't becoming more popular or esteemed, quite the reverse. So their power is more or less null and void.

Their "power" is null and void but their ability to put people out on the street, to tie up resources and be propaganda "tools" isn't. Also again, let's not forget the "recruiting pool" for more "kinetic activities" they represent. I'm not saying they're 10 feet tall, only that they can be made to look that way, particularly if their organizing infrastructure is kept "active" with these kinds of events and the MSM is cooperating. Just one manifestation of "the man/men behind the curtain".

So the Black Lies Matter crowd is doing another protest...yawn...These folks need to check on black on black crime before they whine to the world they are being "persecuted" by whites in every sector of society. Bullsh*t. White cop shoots a black man and it's persecution? No, in almost every instance that has been publicized; the arrests look legitimate. Freddy Gray was selling drugs I believe, the piece of sh*t in Ferguson roughed up a store owner and shoplifted, etc etc. The idiot in Charleston who ran rather than comply with a legitimate traffic stop.
When these idiots look at their own communities and straighten them up-then I'll pay attention to what they have to say.

The Latest: Governor: Protests causing dangerous situation

By The Associated Press
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The latest developments on a Black Lives Matter protest that started at the Mall of America (all times local):

3:35 p.m.

Gov. Mark Dayton says the moving protest that has led to disruptions at the Mall of America and Minnesota's main airport has created a "very, very dangerous situation."

Dayton pleaded Wednesday with protesters aligned with the Black Lives Matter movement to stand down from blocking access to roads and terminal entrances at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

He told WCCO Radio that their demands have been met for thorough state and federal investigations of the shooting of Jamar Clark by Minneapolis police.

The governor says he questions the need for this type of demonstration. Dayton says protesters' call for the release of video footage of the Clark altercation has to wait, so it doesn't jeopardize the integrity of investigation that he says everyone wants.

___

3:20 p.m.

Arrests have been made at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in connection with a protest causing significant traffic disruptions.

Airport spokesman Patrick Hogan says the arrests came Wednesday, after people protesting at the Mall of America headed to one of the airport's two terminals. He didn't immediately have a number of arrests.

Hogan says traffic backups persist on roads leading to the airport, and that security checkpoints inside the terminal were temporarily closed. He says that was done to prevent protesters from rushing through them and forcing an evacuation of the gate areas.

It's possible that there could be some flight delays to accommodate passengers stuck in security lines when they reopen.

2:40 p.m.

A protest that started at the Mall of America has moved to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, where protests have blocked roads.

Airport officials say access to one of two terminals has been blocked by protesters, causing significant traffic backups on nearby roads. Some protesters took a light-rail train to the airport after the mall was closed by police.

Traffic cameras for the state highway department show traffic at a virtual standstill leading to and from the state's main airport. The Mall of America and the airport are only a few miles apart.

Protesters left the nation's largest mall shortly after a rally began Wednesday afternoon, chanting for justice. The protest was organized by Black Lives Matter activists.

Arrests made as protest blocks roads to Minneapolis airport

comment(4)

By KYLE POTTER
The Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS —

Protesters blocked roads and caused significant holiday traffic delays around the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Wednesday after staging a rally that briefly shut down part of the nation's largest mall.

Police said several people were arrested at the airport, where officials said access to one of two terminals was blocked, causing backups on nearby roads. Some protesters took a light-rail train to the airport from the Mall of America, where protesters started the Black Lives Matter rally to bring attention to a recent police shooting of a black man in Minneapolis.

Gov. Mark Dayton said the moving protest was creating a "very, very dangerous situation," and he urged protesters to stop blocking access to part of the airport.

The governor questioned the need for such a demonstration, noting that federal and state investigations are ongoing into the death of Jamal Clark, who was shot by Minneapolis police responding to an assault complaint. Dayton said releasing video of officers' altercation with Clark could jeopardize the investigations.

About 500 protesters initially gathered at the Mall of America early Wednesday afternoon, then abruptly walked out while chanting, "What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now!" Protesters peacefully went to a nearby light-rail train station that allowed quick access to the airport a few miles away.

Dozens of stores closed their gates, kiosks were covered and even Santa left his sleigh shortly before protesters gathered at the massive shopping district on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Numerous signs were posted on mall property, saying no protests were allowed — including a long message on a screen in a central rotunda between two Christmas trees.

Police quickly closed the mall's main entrances and threatened arrests.

A similar demonstration last December drew hundreds of demonstrators angry over the absence of charges following the police killings of unarmed black men in New York City and Ferguson, Missouri. Stores in the mall had to close, and dozens of people were arrested.

The massive retail center in the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington houses an amusement park and more than 500 shops spread across four floors, attracting shoppers from around the globe.

Security guards cordoned off parts of the central rotunda, and officers from several cities patrolled inside.

The mall sought a court order blocking the planned protest. A judge on Tuesday barred three organizers from attending the demonstration, but said she didn't have the power to block unidentified protesters associated with Black Lives Matter — or the movement as a whole — from showing up.

Bloomington Police Deputy Chief Denis Otterness confirmed officers would be at the mall, but declined to discuss their plans for handling the protest.

"Our number one priority is the safety of everybody out at the Mall of America today," he said Wednesday morning.

Dayton also told reporters early Wednesday that 30 Minnesota State Patrol officers would be on scene at the local police department's request. He said he sympathized with protesters' concerns, but stressed that the mall was private property.

Kandace Montgomery, one of three organizers barred by the judge's order, said the group wasn't deterred by the ban. She declined to say if she or her fellow organizers still planned to go to the mall, but she said she expected hundreds of protesters to show up — including some prepared to be arrested.

Montgomery said the retail mecca was the perfect venue for their demonstration to pressure authorities involved in the investigation of Clark's death to release video footage.

"When you disrupt their flow of capital ... they actually start paying attention," she said. "That's the only way that they'll hear us."

I see your point, but imHo, the bigger "presence" they manage to have (real or MSM enhanced), the more people loathe and detest them and see them for the little tools that they are. So if they get more loud and visible, it works against them. And in this "protest", LE acted admirably.

As others mentioned above, it looked like a whole lot of melanin-deprived folks were "protesting." Maybe that's intentional. Maybe organizers think they'll be more effective or will be more favorably received than those of the darker persuasion. I think those white folks will realize sooner or later that they are being used, and will stop attending the protests. They almost certainly are not considered as equals by the organizers.
