Other than Zawahiri, I'm not sure which Al Qaeda figures would even be recognizable anymore. Or elicit much more than a yawn from many.

Al Qaeda is ancient history to a lot of the public, and many nowadays weren't even of age yet when they were front page news.

The United States conducted a "successful" counterterrorism operation against a "significant" Al Qaeda target Ayman Al Zawahiri in Afghanistan over the weekend, a senior administration official told Fox News.

President Biden on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. E.T. is expected to address the nation from the White House on the operation.

"Over the weekend, the United States conducted a counterterrorism operation against a significant Al Qaeda target in Afghanistan," the senior administration official told Fox News Monday. "The operation was successful and there were no civilian casualties."

Two intelligence sources tell Fox News Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al Zawahiri was killed in the CIA drone strike.

The Biden administration closed the U.S. Embassy in Kabul and withdrew all military assets from Afghanistan on Aug. 31, 2021, ending the United States' longest war.

I agree with you, and to top it off, why in the world would this administration want to draw attention to the memory of the US in Afghanistan?

After the debacle of our exit and the blood and treasure we left behind???!!!! :: shakes head in disgust ::

Again, I agree, and again, I think strategically all it does is kindle that memory I have of those- what 6-9 people we droned to death in error over there, that included children??
Do the deed if you have the chance, but for those who remember, it is political poison, do it quietly and with your head held in shame over those other failures.

Biden is speaking on the balcony, with Covid apparently. And in the evening.

Not that there will be a huge audience, but we'll see if there are any of his usual word salads. Or if he can even say Zawahiri.

We haven't heard much major, in either words or actions, out of either this dude or AQ, in a good while. ISIS either for that matter.

Might draw attention to the fact that Orange Man might have been more responsible for shutting down the Middle East Raghead Terrorist Academy then his predecessors combined...

I don't believe ANYTHING this administration says, much less what their CIA 'Comrades' in arms broadcast.

Didn't President Trump makes a deal with the al-Qaida group that if we left, and they promised to behave, we'd let them take charge of the cleanup? And didn't al-Qaida burn poppy fields so the U.S. couldn't traffic it any more?

If a strike DID happen, I wonder if this was the DS taking out al-Qaida big wigs for stopping the flow of our CIA's drug money?

Why though? The US .mil decided to slowly withdraw under President Trump and Biden just decided to bail out and leave billions of $$$ in weapons behind.
What is the purpose? Thought we were done there?
Of course, the veterans and war-fans will probably love this development.

quite actually as a vet (68-72) I HATE and deeply DESPISE this development and sincerely believe that the very best thing we could do for our troops is to insist that they be brought home IMMEDIATELY from where ever they are and that they be kept from EVER AGAIN becoming involved in UNNECESSARY foreign entanglements, the VAST MAJORITY of which are at the behest of and in the interests of the rich men of the earth
