Biden Admin Rolling Out Stove Regulation After Insisting It’s Not Trying To Ban Gas Stoves

The Biden administration finalized an energy efficiency rule for stoves on Monday after claiming that it has no intention to ban gas-powered models.

The Department of Energy (DOE) published the final rule in accordance with a court order that requires the agency to publish the rule by the end of January. The administration proposed an aggressive efficiency regulation for stoves in February 2023 and subsequently promised that it is not attempting to ban gas stoves, calling suggestions to the contrary “misinformation.”

Compliance with the rules will be required for newly-manufactured products starting in January 2028, according to the DOE. The regulation applies to electric cooktops, gas cooktops, stand-alone electric cooktops, stand-alone gas cooktops and ovens.

“President Biden is committed to using all the tools at the Administration’s disposal to lower costs for American families and deliver healthier communities—including energy efficiency measures like the one announced today,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said of the rule.

The rules are likely to make certain models more expensive up front, but the government contends that the rule will save Americans money on their utility bills in the long run by reducing the amount of energy their stoves use, according to The Washington Post.

“The new standards will also require only a small portion of models to make modest improvements to their energy efficiency to match the level of efficiency already demonstrated by the majority of the market today,” according to the DOE. “For example, approximately 97 percent of gas stove models and 77 percent of smooth electric stove models on the market already meet these standards.”

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Commissioner Richard Trumka, Jr. kicked off a political firestorm in January 2023, weeks before the administration unveiled the original proposal, when he suggested that a potential de facto ban on gas stoves was on the table in an interview with Bloomberg News. The administration has repeatedly insisted that it is a “myth” that the federal government wants to ban gas stoves in the time since.

A June 2023 Harvard CAPS Harris poll showed that nearly 70% of respondents oppose policies that would amount to a de facto gas stove ban. Over 80% of Republican respondents and 71% of independents are opposed to such policies, joined by 55% of Democrats polled in the survey.

Beyond stoves, the Biden DOE has also sought to impose energy efficiency regulations for items like water heaters, furnaces and pool pump motors. The administration has also spent hundreds of millions of dollars to help state and municipal governments pursue building codes meant to “decarbonize” buildings.

Neither the DOE nor the White House responded immediately to requests for comment.

I suspect several of us missed this important part of the OP...

I think we won this one.

In their relentless pursuit of virtue signaling and embracing the WEF Agenda 2030, Joe Biden and the Democrats seem to have stumbled upon a groundbreaking solution to save the planet: banning gas stoves. Because nothing says "environmental savior" like depriving people of the joy of cooking with an open flame. Forget about personal choices and preferences; it's time for the benevolent government to dictate how you fry your eggs. Soon, we'll all be huddled around our electric stovetops, reminiscing about the good old days when we could control the flame and savor the aroma of a sizzling steak without the interference of the eco-police. Who needs individual freedoms when you can have a greener kitchen, right? Bon appétit, under the watchful eye of the climate-conscious overlords.

Funny thing is -- MOST of the stoves in DOWNTOWN DC are GAS STOVES.

I know because I was looking for something safer for Timothy, since he wasn't used to cooking for himself and I just didn't feel safe with him around a flame, especially since he'd never been around a gas stove growing up and wasn't familiar with them (and neither am I, truth to tell).

It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find ANY apartment in DC or its environs that DOESN'T have a GAS stove!

Does Biden even know--or care--that he's about to alienate most of the population that surrounds the White House?

You can buy a simple plug-in induction (single or double) hot plate that's about a safe as it gets. You just plug it in. You do need to use stainless or cast iron pots. https://www.amazon.com/COOKTRON-Induction-Temperature-Settings-Portable/dp/B097GZS6SR/ref=sr_1_11?crid=3KHUMQSLDLONP&keywords=induction+cooktop&qid=1706573917&sprefix=induction+cooktop,aps,143&sr=8-11&th=1
Oh we finally found a place--perfect for him--which has a nice ceramic-top cooktop (burners are enclosed inside the ceramic/glass top) and oven. He cooks on it all the time.

I was just commenting on the fact that, living in the middle of an area 90% full of GAS stoves, he decides to outlaw gas stoves.

It is so sad that so few actually read the OP.

Biden is also taking away our electric stoves. We must soon all eat raw food only. :)

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is reportedly planning to propose a new version of the Green New Deal, and it is loaded with provisions designed to make America’s public housing stock go green.

Ocasio-Cortez, independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and other left-wing legislators are poised to launch the “Green New Deal for Public Housing Act” on Thursday in Washington, D.C., according to Politico. The bill — which aims to “provide economic empowerment opportunities in the United States” by making public housing climate-friendly — would effectively mandate the electrification of almost every aspect of public housing, including the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) chargers and the replacement of gas stoves, according to its text.

The bill is designed to “reimagine and reinvigorate public housing in the United States” and reverse “many of the environmental injustices that public housing residents have faced,” Ocasio-Cortez told Politico. Approximately 1.2 million American households are living in public housing, according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. (RELATED: Liberal Campaigner Calls ‘Green New Deal’ A Plan To ‘Redistribute Wealth And Power’ From Rich To Poor)

The bill would require “electric appliances to replace appliances reliant on fossil fuels, such as gas stoves and hot water heaters” in America’s public housing and the buildout of “electric vehicle charging infrastructure for public housing residents and visitors,” according to its text. EVs tend to cost significantly more than gas-powered models, with the average EV costing consumers about 25% more than the average automobile, according to Green Cars.

Ocasio-Cortez and other left-wing lawmakers have previously attempted to pass Green New Deal legislation in 2019 and 2021, but those efforts did not gain much traction due to the sweeping and expensive nature of the legislation.

The initial version of the Green New Deal called for numerous left-wing proposals, including forcing the American economy to move away from fossil fuels within ten years, the creation of universal health care, guaranteed income programs and job programs. It also called for “social, economic, racial, regional and gender-based justice and equality and cooperative and public ownership.”

The Green New Deal for Public Housing would require taxpayers to fund the implementation of “photovoltaic glass windows” in public housing, as well as “all-electric state-of-the-art efficient appliances,” according to its text.

Additionally, the bill would require applicants looking for government grants to carry out these changes to submit “a signed acknowledgment indicating a commitment to transition all public housing owned or managed by the eligible entity into zero-carbon homes not later than 10 years after the date on which the eligible entity receives the grant,” according to its text.

The bill would also require the government to “give preference” to grant applicants that have formed partnerships with organized labor, according to its text. Preferred applicants would also include those that provide “training and employment opportunities reserved specifically for local low- and very low-income people that were formerly incarcerated” and “stipends valued at not less than $250 per week” for people participating in relevant workforce development programs.
The bill also has provisions that have little to do with climate change at face value. It would require “the establishment and leasing of commercial activity that offers public housing residents on-site access to goods and services” such as high-quality healthcare, dental clinics, book shops, cheap organic groceries and tutoring centers, according to its text.

The legislation would also require the government to subsidize centers for seniors and children at or around public housing developments, as well as community gardens and high-speed internet, according to its text. The bill also would mandate the government to facilitate “the establishment or improvement of dedicated infrastructure for transportation by bicycle, including lanes, parking spots, and the bulk purchase of enough bicycles to offer 1 bicycle to every low- and very low-income public housing resident.”

The offices of Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

President Biden is committed to using all the tools at the Administration’s disposal to decrease standards of living for American families and create for itself communities of justification —including ANY measures like the one announced today,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said of the rule. "It's part of Biden's 'Make China Great Again' (MCGA) policy," Granholm repeated smiling.

Fixed it for them.

Gas heat is next...

It has half the global warming gas exhaust of oil heat, but no matter. In Bidenview you should be willing nay EAGER to live like I do in an environment where your only heat is your body heat - and you can see your breath four months out of the year.

Eager chattel - that's what they want.

They do know better for you. (Or think they know.)

Jennifer is so stupid that I bet you could convince her to go back to coal. After all, when coal was used to heat buildings, CO2 levels were much lower than today. And, it was delivered by horses. No gas engines vehicle deliveries.
