PREP Best, cheapest, fuel for an alcohol stove( trangia or other) $5/4 quarts vs around $40/gallon (4 quarts) for other fuels

Saved, to glorify God.
I've been checking into alcohol stoves like trangia.
1.The problem is if you get the cheap, wrong kind of alcohol
The stove will put a yellow flame when lit, and put a thick layer of soot on any
pan or cup heated on it. OR on anything hung over it to dry out!

2.the more expensive alcohol ($35-$45 a gallon + shipping) fuels that don't get everything sooty because they burn with a blue flame.

3.Well everybody in the past bought Yellow bottle HEET as cheaper stove fuel at the Auto parts stores and walmart.

4.But, They changed the formulation of Yellow bottle HEET since the pandemic! It now burns a yellow flame and soots up your cookware but not as bad as 90% alcohol or other fuels. $1.25 HEET!

Buy the dollar store generic HEET for $1.25 a quart,
It still burns a blue, clean flame and no soot!

A little off-topic, but: Just as a point of reference, the Coleman Dual Fuel stoves can run on unleaded gasoline; cheapest of the fuel alternatives.

ETA: Just noticed that Kohl's has the single-burner Dual Fuel 533 stoves on sale for <$72 with free ship.

Denatured Alcohol
Have you priced a gallon of denatured alcohol lately?
I thought not.
$5 a gallon for dollar store generic Heet beats all
competitors. Burns clean, and is CHEAP!

You would rather pay $40 +plus shipping? (shipping's not cheap!)

What dollar store are you referring to on the $1.25 per quart as I have not seen this at Dollar Tree or 99 cent stores?

I also found spare generators for the 533 priced $28.55 here:

I ordered a few parts, including generators, and shipping was free (not sure what qualifies).

Most of your hardware stores sell Klean Strip Denatured Alcohol Fuel in the gallon size for between $10 and $14. Sometimes it goes by "S-L-X" Alcohol, or GSL-26, but it will say fuel for cookstoves on the can. Works great and if you paint the top and bottom of the can (or grease them up), they won't rust and last decades. I have both quart and gallon sized cans that some of them are 30+ years old and the alcohol is still fine.

It is Ethyl Alcohol, but it has been "denatured" by adding a little Methanol Alcohol to it to make it undrinkable, but still perfectly fine to run in a Alcohol stove. The interesting part is almost no hardware store (especially the big box stores) will put it on their website for fear that someone is going to pull a Kitty Dukakis and drink it (and yes, I know that she drank Isopropyl (worse for your body), not denatured...).

Either that or look up a Svea123R and you can buy Colman fuel from Walmart or Crown white gas from them too.
The Svea 123R holds only 4oz of fuel and runs for an hour so a gallon of Colman fuel will last a while and the Svea 123R puts out a lot more heat than a alcohol stove.

Where does one find those old pressurized marine alcohol stoves??
Kicking myself for not buying an Origo years ago for emergency use.
The one I got is not pressurized its stainless steel and works like a large trianga like burner that has an adjustable shutter for heat regulation. Its about the size of a single burner butane stove. I bought it at a yard sale

I have tried a lot of 'camp' stoves... MSR 3 small ones (? model) and a MSR DragonFly (which until I bought a piece to quiet it down you couldn't hear around it), several alcohol stoves which are so so good, I do have a Coleman dualfuel 533 and have had it for years replaced the generator and keep it in a large coffee can with a lid. For 4-5 years I would heat a can of soup for lunch and the 533 was the easiest to set up and use. I have several of the 1951 coleman military stoves and they're good also but you will probably need to replace some parts.
