The bizarre outpouring of emotional incontinence in the aftermath of Olympic gymnast Simone Biles quitting her team’s finals has continued, with the BBC describing her as “superhuman.”

Sorry, what?

Biles made headlines when she pulled out of two Olympic gymnastics events after making an error in one of her performances, abandoning her team and letting down her country.

She later cited both social media pressure and ‘mental health’ as reasons for withdrawing.

Some questioned why an elite athlete trained to perform at the highest level would give up so easily, suggesting that her reasons for doing so may just have been convenient excuses for a poor performance.

However, such people were denounced as monsters by vociferous mobs of people who insisted that Biles be seen as an “inspiration,” “heroic” and “courageous.”

The BBC went further, choosing to lead with the headline that Biles’ behavior was “superhuman.”

The quote is from Nile Wilson, former British gymnast and 2016 bronze medallist, who said, “As athletes, particularly Simone Biles, the attention and validation comes from being a superhuman. I always call her the female Hercules and she definitely will feel all that pressure.”

Another athlete, Chris Mears, also told the broadcaster, “As a man, I am saying that we do not talk enough about mental health.”

This is of course completely absurd since people talk endlessly about “mental health” all the time, a practice that has coincided with soaring depression and worsening mental illness.

Maybe people should stop wallowing and start focusing on creating healthier thinking patterns that aren’t based in self-indulgent “poor me” self-obsession.

As we document in the video below, the bizarre insistence that weakness is strength and failure is success is part of the woke mob’s jihad against language and common sense.

Typical media these days. Going completely overboard with the feelz.

The media is actually 100X more irritating than some of the stuff they report on. If they had reported just the facts in the Biles story, we'd have noted it, given an opinion, and moved on.

I'm all about the doom
So, she couldn't get the "job" done for whatever reason and she's labeled a "superhuman". Wow! Guess she's getting a figurative "gold medal" for showing up by the media and "The Woke".

What about the ones who were able to get the job done? A brief blurb, I guess.

I heard she takes ritalin, and it isn’t allowed in Japan. Or maybe the olympics. That would certainly be a reason to quit, if she tried to quit cold turkey. Idk. Just what I heard.
Apparently, they switched her to Adderal? I have no clue (thankfully) how this stuff makes you feel, but I'm betting they aren't perfect analogues.

Then, the thing where her mom supposedly travels *everywhere * when she's competing... if true, that is really a huge, major change for a young woman who has gotten where she is through routine and hard work. It sounds like ,Mom and maybe the ADHD drugs helped keep an anxiety issue at bay, or controlled.

And she is getting older, and her body (as mentioned by others) may be subtly changing... and if you don't think that could endanger her life, stick a few ounces of lead on your wheel rims in random places and drive down the road!

All that said, they would have served her much better if they had said "Simone Biles, arguably the greatest ever, is also human!".. and gone on with a sympathetic (and accurate) look at how potentially dangerous this amazing sport is if ANYTHING at all goes even slightly wrong.

I once saw a gymnast (college) land slightly off coming off the pommel horse. Tore her Achilles tendon completely. Ugly injury. Tough sport.

And last, the pure joy on her younger teammates face as she competed and helped the team win Gold, was wonderful to see.

Also- look on YouTube for the "men's high jump co-gold medalists. It's more than worth your time... true sportsmanship, Olympic spirit and genuine joy- this is the way it should be!

I'm sorry. I well understand that it's a rarefied society with enormous physical, mental and emotional pressures and stresses.
..But, handling them is part of the Gold Medal Winners' Mystique. If you cannot cut it, well, most of us fall short... but despite all my inclinations to be understanding, this latest headline really tempts me to write her off as a mere Drama-LLama- you know the type- this whole "I'm going, I'm staying, I'm going again" is nonsense.

Handle yer chit girlie w/ some dignity, not this attention seeking nonsense. It's really not all about you, n it's unfortunate the environment feeds into that unhealthy mindset, but despite all their sycophantic behavior, part of being the top of the heap is handling that nonsense, too. You're old enough. You should be tough enough. No excuses.

Simone Biles is returning to compete in #Tokyo2020 . USA Gymnastics says the Olympic champion will participate in the balance beam finals, a little over a week after stepping away from the meet to focus on her mental health.

She has what gymnasts call "the twisties" which is some sort of spacial disorientation phenomenon that can strike any athlete without warning. It also happens to airline pilots (like JFK Jr) where they lose all sense of up and down. Simone was smart enough to withdraw before she hurt her team AND possibly seriously injured herself. Says a lot for her skill level that she was able to pull out of that botched vault at all without getting injured. The shock and fear is visible in her face in midair as she looks for her landing and can't find it. A lesser athlete would have been seriously hurt, maybe with broken bones or even a broken neck. Her vault still counted in the team score so she shared their silver medal - it isn't unusual for a gymnast on the team to only compete in one event of the team competition if anybody is whining about why she still got a medal for it anyway.

Does anyone here remember Julissa Gomez? Gymnast from San Antonio who broke her neck in 1988, Sang Lan who broke hers on vault at the Goodwill Games in 1998. This sport can KILL PEOPLE. A girl broke her neck and was killed instantly on uneven bars, Connecticut or Massachusetts, about ten years ago.

Simone is accepted as the greatest gymnast of all time. She has almost 30 world championship titles. She elevated the level of the entire sport, with two floor routines, two vaults and a beam dismount created and named after her.

She is a role model for other gymnasts and one reason she stayed out in competition is because she is the ONLY victim of Larry Nasser who is still competing. USA GYmnastics would LOVE to sweep that under the rug and have everybody forget about it as soon as possible. They KNEW about him FOR YEARS before he was caught.....kept it quiet by having gymnasts sign NDAs as a condition of paying for their therapy like Makayla Maroney. The head of USAG, Steve Penny, is under investigation by the FBI for removing documents from USAG office and Karolyi Ranch that showed they knew about Nasser. They still let him go on treating gymnasts.

Simone is going to compete on balance beam tomorrow and will hopefully do well. She can always redo her routine to eliminate the twists and flips with dance elements like double and triple turns, which are of equal difficulty. Sanne Wevers won the gold in 2016 doing those. Simone can do an easier dismount that doesn't involve flipping through the air and still win.

People who have never competed at that level, or won as many medals, or had to deal with the pressure and expectation of their federation and entire country, not to mention every Rent A Mouth on tv, just don't get it.

Simone showed a lot of courage withdrawing. At one time they would have ended her over it. Remember Kerri Strug vaulting in Atlanta? Dominique Moceanu getting back up on the beam after almost knocking herself out on a fall? It wasn't just courage. The coaches and gymnastics federation would have crushed them underfoot if they hadnt. The abuse in that sport was unbelievable and Simone is one of the people who is helping to end it.

It's also worth noting that although she must be dealing with CRUSHING disappointment - since she did after all qualify for all six events and lose the chance at six more Olympic medals - she has stayed in the stands and cheered for her teammates who replaced her. USAG says one of the first thing she said when she told them had to withdraw was "text Mykayla and tell her not to get on that plane!" Mykayla Skinner, who the federation continually screwed over throughout her career, thought she was out of all the events and had already planned to fly home. Instead she stayed in Tokyo, continued to train, replaced Simone on vault and won the silver medal.

Going on and on about her like this is just plain mean-spirited, cruel and flat ugly. A lot of the folks on here doing that are supposed to be Christians after all.......maybe we ought to remember that as well as that Simone is somebody's little girl too.

i can see, and agree with parts of, both sides of this.

i don't know if it really is true that the reasons given are the real reasons, or if their are other reasons.

i have read some blinds though........they are NOT in her favor. one made it very clear that she is full of crap, and nothing wrong with her at all. that the mental health angle is bunk, and it was because she was not up to the same standards as before. not that that was terrible by any means, just that she didn't want to be anything other than GOAT, and she knew this was not going to be the case this time, so she made up this excuse and let the media run with it. the rest of her team is/was pissed, but have to make nice for everyone. the blind also says that she is not the girl that everyone loves, actually, either.

i am not saying i am totally on board with this blind, but it is a possible explanation as good as any that has been pushed. any of the explanations are plausible.

i do hope she and all the rest of them are ok. i hope the other teammates and competitors get the recognition and support and cheering for their accomplishments, and that the focus is placed where it should be by the media.

OK I've mostly avoided these threads but I'll just say this - I check with a couple of medical people I know, one of whom is a psychiatrist (which means they are a medical doctor as well as a mind doctor) and they all said: "twisties are real, they also happen to people in other sorts of extremely high-stress jobs, and they can kill."

Apparently until fairly recently it was common for it to happen to certain types of military piolets, especially those landing on aircraft carriers because like a gym routine, it has to be perfect every single time.

There are real reasons why sometimes the brain just PHYISCIALLY shuts off and refused to allow the body to do what it was trained to do.

The last Olympian gymnast who was pressured by her country and team to "just brace up and keep going" fell during the practice trials when her body and brain froze in another twistie - she fell and was totally quadriplegic for the rest of her life (about 20 more years).

This isn't about being "brave," this isn't about "being a coward," this isn't about "race" (the woman who became a quadriplegic was blond and blue-eyed from her photo), and it isn't even about being a "super-athlete."

It is about a little-understood PHYSICAL CONDITION that can affect anyone in these sorts of high stress, must perform perfectly jobs - surgeons can get it, piolets can get it and anyone whose job requires the brain and body to be perfect every time or someone can die (including the individual performing the job).

Yeah, the UK article is over-the-top - they are running out of headlines coming out of an Olympics that most people are not bothering to watch.

But the young woman in question did the right medical thing and no one would be criticising her if she had to drop out due to a positive COVID test or because she broke her foot.

Don't mean to change the subject, but don't feelz it deserves a thread of it's own. So just for informational purposes:

The US's women's soccer team lost to Canada and are out. Didn't watch, (who does?) so don't know if they will qualify for a bronze or not. Canada has a transsexual on their team. IT's a woman who identifies as a man. I'm sorry I just can't wrap my head around that, and don't want to.

Pink hair no gold.

Sorry for the thread drift Dennis.

Quite frankly I'm amazed she has lasted this long. Watching her was FREAKING AMAZING. No human should be able to pull those kinds of maneuvers and you have to give her credit for recognizing that it's perhaps time to stop. A slip up of a hundredth of a second loss of concentration while performing impossible feats of physical magic could cripple her for life, if not kill her!

There has only ever been one SUPERHUMAN and He died on the cross. So calling her superhuman is really not fair or realistic, but she certainly was SPECTACULAR! The bottom line is that a person "has got to know their limitations", and obviously she has reached hers and luckily she recognized those limits BEFORE she seriously injured herself. So folks need to back off, unless they can do better. Which I doubt few people on this planet can.

She's a good gymnast when performing at her peak. She knows she's reached her experiation date and is trying to go out with a bit of glory (drama queen). GOAT? Nope. You can withdraw from any single competition OF YOUR OWN. But when you withdraw and let your team down, you are not GOAT. She's been here before and has the hardware to prove it. For some of her teammates, this may be their first and only and she screwed them.

Thanks for the thrills, Ms. Biles but you disappointed me this time.

Simone Biles meant to ruffle some feathers with her bedazzled leotards.
Last month, the 24-year-old gymnast scored her seventh women’s all-around title at the US Gymnastics Championships, the most all-around titles for an American woman ever.
Plus, she did it wearing a series of self-referential leotards from GK Elite, each one embellished with a sparkling goat.
The new unofficial mascot, which fans have dubbed “Goldie,” was meant to represent Biles’ status as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) — and send barbs to her detractors.
“The idea was to hit back at the haters,” she told Marie Claire.
“[The haters] were joking like, ‘I swear, if she put a goat on her leo, blah, blah, blah.’ That would make them so angry. And then I was like, ‘Oh, that’s actually a good idea. Let’s make the haters hate it, and the fans love it.’ And so that’s exactly what we did and why we did it.”
Each leotard featured “Goldie” the goat in different locations, including on Biles’ hip (pictured), back and shoulder.Getty Images
During the competition, the four-time Olympic champion became became the first woman to land a Yurchenko double pike vault in competition. She’s now gearing up for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic trials, which were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I just hope that kids growing up watching this don’t or aren’t ashamed of being good at whatever they do,” she continued.
“I want kids to learn that, yes, it’s okay to acknowledge that you’re good or even great at something.”

Everyone seems to have forgotten that she was told that she was going to be graded down for performing at her own level. Because her level is so much higher than that of her competitors. This would have translated to problems for the team possibly winning. And increased risk for her in the individual competition because she would be graded harshly if she performed lower than she is capable, yet not graded in comparison if she did fully perform.
She found a way to withdraw from team competition that would not hurt her team and would allow them to perform and be judged fairly for their abilities.
I'd honestly bet that she was going to continue in the individual events until the full risk to herself became apparent. Too many gymnasts have received lifelong severe injuries doing what she does. If they were not going to grade her fairly, she did not need to take that risk.
She didn't start this. The Olympic judges did when they told her that they would not judge her fairly. This was her last Olympics. I seriously doubt that she wanted to withdraw. The news no longer reports that part. They are reporting the mental health aspect. Unfortunately, I think that is going to ricochet on her and cause her problems later. I think she would have stuck with the injury story except that the Olympic doctors wouldn't have been able to verify one.
And who wouldn't have some mental issues with the idea of being the best in their field, having spent years/decades getting there, and then being told that they would be punished for all of those years of training and effort. I can tell you I would have walked out and told them to "eat $$$$."
