Huh. Is this an old article? Who's quarantined these days?
Yes, an old article. Probably originally written in 2020. Several clues in the article including the quarantined comment. Simply republished with the November 28, 2022 date on it.

$2000 may not be much but it's a good start and more than most people can afford to put back anyway, all things considered. With that much money you could bail a loved one out of jail, in most cases or buy enough gas to get a loved one home, fill a lifesaving prescription, get some formula...you get the idea. It's a darn sight better than nothing.

The figures were way too low in the OP and the suggested preps were unrealistic. I recently read that the majority of Americans couldn't afford a $500 emergency, so how in 'ell are they going to set aside $2000 in emergency cash?

A disquieting number of Americans are already in debt up to their ears and are living paycheck to paycheck. It's incredibly common for people to live off of their credit cards, payday lenders, pawn shops and other expensive sources of capital. For those who are better off, keeping extra large sums in cash doesn't make sense when inflation is taken into account. Those saved Dollars are losing purchasing power daily.

I suspect that the vast majority of our board members are well-prepped and would go through most emergencies in good shape compared to most Americans. The largest single disaster I lived through was Katrina and in that case the government immediately gave people funds and passed out food. How it could possibly handle a nationwide emergency wholly escapes me.
