CRIME Apartment Drug Dealer Pointing livestream Camera At DS's Apartment Door

I wonder if there is anything else I should tell DS to do.

The other night somebody fired off one or more guns multiple times. He collected about 20 9mm shells from the parking lot. Across from his apartment is what seems like a drug dealer. Lots of cars coming and going in short intervals. The apartment is rented by a single person on the lease he found out with no pet deposit. There is a pit bull that they routine let dump in the grass by his door. There are always multiple women that appear to be living there with multiple kids. They dump their vacuum bag right by her side. She has complained to management and they filed a lease violation but nothing apparently that would make them leave.

Yesterday, the guy installed a Livestream camera pointing right toward DS's door. I said it wasn't meant for him but was used probably as a reaction to a busted drug deal that resulted in someone firing the gun(s).

Still, in an unwise move DS was going into his apartment and decided to flip the camera off. The guy immediately opened the door and said "I'm gonna f' you up n!gger" which is almost comical since DS is white. I guess that is why they don't like being called that because that is the worst insult they can think of.

The obvious solution would be to move but he just resigned his lease.

I told him to call the owner of the apartment and inform them of what is going on, tell them the manager is doing nothing about it.

To complicate things the maintenance guy goes over daily, probably on his lunch break, probable to get his supply and/or get high. DS is worried they could use the camera to determine when he left and using the maintenance key, come in and either take things or mess with his dogs. The police have been called multiple times and they do nothing. They didn't even come out to collect evidence for the shooting. DS called them about the spent casings and they were not interested in them.

DS was going to borrow a gun from a friend. While I told him he should get a gun, I suggested he get his concealed license, buy his own gun and practice with it. The course tells you the circumstances you can use it, the civil and criminal penalties that could apply and other helpful things.

Oh, this is in Fort Worth btw.

I don't think it is illegal.

Any suggestions on course of action?

How do you "Barry a gun from a friend"?

I would never lend a gun or borrow one from a friend if it could be used in a deadly force engagement. That would not be wise to loan, nor would it be friendly to borrow.

I'd advise them to break the lease immediately and leave. Document the reason, including dates and times and evidence, if available, and provide a certified copy to the landlord. Their safety is worth the hassle of finding quarters in a safer environment.

Yeah, never Barry a gun. Nor would I, if someone came to me and asked to Barry one, Lonny it to to them. If he has to use it, the gun gets instantly confiscated, perhaps never to be returned to me. He needs to go BUY HIS OWN, or you can lend him one as his parent. Why doesn't he have one already? Is he a snowflake? And he needs to move the hell out RTFN. He can't win this.

Your son could always set up a livestream camera at the other persons door... have a fake one and a real one concealed.

Two thoughts. These types only recognize force and they don't like cameras. Don't start a war your not willing to take to the end. Leave yesterday as it is better than being dead. They also have long memories when wronged and can take just about anything as an insult.

This is in Texas and he doesn't already have a gun?? Shame :shk:
Take him to the gunstore and help him buy one and pay for his CCW class.
Might give you a little piece of mind.
I completely agree with LightEcho about borrowing or lending a gun. Very foolish.

This. Give the manager AND The owner 7 days notice, with all the problem issues described in detail in writing. Actually, this might be one place where paying a lawyer for a consultation (might be free) and a letter on his letterhead might be cheaper than doing it on his/her own.

Is this your SON or DAUGHTER. You've used both in your post?

It sounds to me like the guy across from your son might be trailer trash that has recently upgraded to apartment trash.
Usually takes them time to learn the new etiquette.

Anyway, since someone was shooting off a gun, it sounds like both your son and the guy across the way, both suspect each other of being involved.

Breaking a lease he just re-signed is tough. How long was he there already and watching the activity? Is the drug dealer new there?

Sounds like the cops don't care, or have a sting operation running. More likely this would be a DEA project.

Document, document and document.

Run a covert camera, edit and save the juicy details...if they see it, their actions will change.

Be sure to note management staff coming and going.

With that in hand, politely ask for a lease cancellation...with the implied option of delivering it to the local detectives.

Record conversations with management.

Nothing personal; but that's his excuse? Well, he'll be dead or injured but the lease will be kept in proper enforcement so that's good.

Yeah, break the lease and GTFO, overnight or in slow pieces. Or look over the lease, sometimes there's a way out.

He has transitioning. It is still hard for me to keep it straight. I'm working on it.

Good ideas, I will pass on the idea of a covert camera and recording the conversations

I agree but DS is very broke thanks to student loans and the need to get a better job. Still better to suffer the financials consequences than the dire alternative.

A property allowing criminal activity as a reason for breaking a lease, will hold up in any court.

Bingo. It's just money, you can get more and fix money issues; you can't fix dead or maimed.

Your OP mentions both DD and DS, are your son and daughter renting a place together, or is your son transgendered? Also, never Barry a gun from anyone, ever, period!

lol. - I should probably only post on my desktop instead of my IPad. Being a touch typist means nothing on my iPad device.

I agree with not borrowing or barrying as you don't know the history of a borrowed gun and the lender doesn't know the possible situations the gun might be used it.

When I was pregnant in 1096 my husband and I were just starting out. We lived in a not great part of time but the rent was cheap. One night I had a jewelry party. Like Tupperware but jewelry. Anyway my Mom and Nana had just left. I was on the landing over looking the parking lot. On the other side of the fence was parking and another apartment complex. I heard yelling and turned to the left just in time to see a Mexican guy shoot and kill someone. Later found out it was over beer. Well of course I was called as a witness. We moved within a week of that shooting.

You can replace stuff but not a life.

Check the lease. The lessor should be responsible for maintaining a safe environment or ensuring lessee can safely reside there.

Bullet casings alone tell me the lessor did not meet the requirements of the lease.

Could be an easy out.

Good luck.

If he has "transitioned" then for sure, take him to the gun shop, get him a gun, a CCW and some good training. It might cost a little, but it is more important and critical for a "transitioned" person than others to be able to defend him or her self. They are much more subject to being attacked. It's like a white person living in a black neighborhood, or someone walking around with a sign on their back saying kick me. :shk:

That does worry me. Besides race issues now there are other biases he has to worry about.

I'd just break he lease. Here is the problem, if the management is somehow involved or not, the guy he is having problems with might or might not get tossed but he still knows where your son lives.

Update:

The apartment complex gave the bad guy an eviction notice and he confronted my DS. They stood in front of his door and berated him for calling the apartment manager. A neighbor was worried and called the cops. The cops came out and talked to they guy. The cops gave him the option of pressing charges but counseled him he would have to live next to the for the next 30 days. He didn't press changes and the cops talked to the guy and told him to leave DS alone. Ironically the cop smelled weed in the dealers apartment. It amazes me they can't do anything about a known drug dealer.

Is weed legal in that state?? The cop had probable cause!

Your son needs to just leave. Because that ape will come back to settle the score even after it has gone.

Your son needs to leave NOW! I predict a drive by shooting to happen next. they will wait for a known time that he is home midnight or later. sheet rock and glass will not stop a bullet. expect it . If I were you I would be moving my son back in with me till he could find a new home..
Good luck.
