My husbands mothers clothes washer quit working. My husband had a friend that had a 1998 model Frigidare washing machine, but said that it leaked. We took it home and took it apart and found a bearing was out. Had the bearing rebuilt and put it in.

Now for the problem...it runs great, but when it aggitates it also tries to spin and spins water out all over the place. Plus when it goes into an actual spin cycle, it spins counter clockwise...I never knew of a washer that spun backwards before. :shr: We did not have to unhook any wires or anything and we cannot figure this thing out. I know that if a motor is wired wrong it will turn backwards, but we didn't move any wires :sht:

I know there is bound to be an answer somewhere...My husband thought that maybe it was in the transmission? I know that some of you homesteading experts have had to work on washing machines before :D We are lost...can any of you help? :shr: thanks in advance

Sounds to me like the drive belt got re-strung bakkerds. That's one real good use for a digital camera. When I'm messing with something difficult I have the digital camera handy to take a pic before I get started so I'll have a roadmap when I go back together with it. If your washer doesn't have a drive belt then I'm just as confused as you. If you can find the data plate and get the model # you might be able to do an online search and find help that way. Good luck.

Thanks Max, It has a belt, but I don't know if it can be put on backwards. It seems like a simple, put the belt on the wheels sort of thing, but I will experiment with it and see...it can't hurt, it sure doesn't work this way :D
