Portland failed to pass a budget so all the defund stuff is on hold as the chaos spreads city wide. Heavy cuts to PPD are now planned, with the money going as a sop to "minority community." The police will be replaced with "intervention, unarmed squads," to deal with all the psychotic homeless, semi violent types. Again, more bodies will stack up when they get knives pulled out on them, or whatever.
Not sure if this will not just collapse into a razzle of nothing burger. For one thing, all this money they are talking about doesn't really exist given the economic collapse from the virus and the property damage. The park in the zone has trees and not enough room for a helicopter. The tennis court is the only open area, but it looks too small to drop much of a helicopter. Drones could use the tennis court.
The area has a lot of medium to large apartment buildings. There are probably a lot of people trapped in there. The apartments are mostly stick built and flammable. There are gang signs everywhere and not all the same gang.
My guess is the real bad guys in the group will light the place up with a bunch of innocent victims and blame a fake attack from outside.

You hit the nail on the head, bev! This is exactly the root issue with regard to stopping (or stooping) and removing these fools. Many on this thread have put up very viable solutions to these ‘squatters’ and any one of them would be effective in breaking up their party.
However, the root issue is that the local and state authorities have no interest in a remedy. We can suggest, cajole, implore and jump up and down all we want. Left up to us (those on this thread) they wouldn’t have lasted 24 hours in their ‘zone.’ It is obvious that this is being allowed to happen, it is being allowed to continue and is being supported by those with an interest in destruction.
