DISASTER ANOTHER VOICE OF WARNING - STOCK UP!!

I have an old friend age 70 in buffalo who is a staunch Christian Scientist. She says God will provide. She prays over everything. She never checks her blood pressure and must have had a mini stroke cuz she said her left arm and leg is weak and she can't shovel. She prays over illness and won't take a drug. I guess she will starve.

Our LORD provides us with the knowledge of calamities that have occurred in history. Seven years of famine in Egypt?
It is up to us to take those lessons of the past and apply them to the future. I trust in the LORD. He will provide me with the means to stock up, if I do not squander it.

On an OPSEC note, the online LDS canned foods ship in boxes labeled with the contents and shipper indicated in large letters--this was the case with all my orders from them, the most recent being about one year ago. It might be wise not to leave them sitting on your porch for hours, visible to passers by.
My only complaint with them. Mine was delivered to my office.

That can be an OPSEC problem inside the house, too.

A clever friend wrapped each carton of six #10 cans in whatever she had on hand, (fabric, wrapping paper, dollar store table cloths), that coordinated with her decor. Then she placed them artfully around her home with her other decorative items, even up on her pot shelves.

Very discrete.

Wow. I'm buying more powdered potatoes and can beans. Got lots of stuff, but little money so can't get a lot of stuff. I have a friend who is OCD he says he has no room in his cupboards. Small house, but very clean. He has a big wooden Coffin in his front room. I told him he can put can food in there. I said he can put can goods under his bed. He has a big kitchen table against the wall he can put boxes of food under it. He believes starvation is coming, but he doesn't want "the clutter"!
That clutter would save his behind, if he could turn his attitude around.

I love the LDS people, they do have the right idea about food and helping people. My case of Hard Red Winter Wheat was delivered yesterday. It didn't even stick out on my porch (which is no where near the road) because my brother was just here Friday and gifted me with 108 cans of green beans, other beans and 48 cans of Underwood Liver Werst, some of which is still on the front porch because I'm trying to find a place to put it all. Fortunately the weather is getting much cooler.

He also brought 4 big metal shelving units and told me I needed to get rid of the ones in the pantry room that are plastic, one of which collapsed with the weight on it. That's all fine and good but what the heck am I supposed to do with 4 shelves cramed full of product. I'll figure it out, if I don't die first.

God is good all the time

I've been cleaning and reorganizing my pantry shelves and now have empty spots. Those spots taunt me with "fill me" every time I look at them! My shelves are all cobbled together, saved from the dump or refashioned from something else, however, they are all strong. A few are commercial steel shelves put into homemade wooden frames. My late dh was a good scrounger and cobbler.

I find otc health and personal items are what wrecks my budget. I've taken advantage of buy one get one free or buy one get one half price for most of what I have of those items. One to use and one for the shelf and eventually you have a couple months on-hand.

When I was filling my upstairs jars with wheat, dried beans and rice pre Y2K, my dh commented if the SHTF those were going to be very tempting to looters. I said 80% of the people wouldn't bother with dried beans and 90% wouldn't know what wheat berries were and that he didn't like rice anyway. Pray we get through this crisis without chaos of looters.

Judy, don't throw your plastic shelves out. Just use them for the light stuff. Mine hold cereal, spices, chips, and kleenex. I've even got a bunch of fold out cardboard shelves that the grocery store gave me when they threw them out. They're on the top shelves of my steel shelves so I can use that extra 2 feet to the ceiling.
Mom had heavy duty pantry shelves made out of 4" x 6"s and thick plywood, and I so wish I had them. Mine are whatever I could get cheap or free.

Finally not a lurker!
I was just talking to DD about the turkey shortage. She went to the commissary and they had 3 THREE turkeys. They had a hand full of precooked turkeys and that was it. I told her to get what she could now
Was there a couple of days ago and they had a small freezer bin of raw ones.

Went to Wally and maynards yesterday the shelves are starting to empty the coolers are too. The dog and cat food isles are almost completely empty no turkeys are to be found in site and we are in chez country.

Had to work with hubby on Friday and now home dumb pot is charging for bags. They asked how many we wanted and we asked for what. They said your products. So we k ow how much to charge you for. We were dumb founded and said none we will carry it out by hand it was only a few parts.

Only good thing right now is it is deer hunting season and we have One in the freezer so far. Bucks are just starting to move. I had 17 does in front of me two nights ago and 3 small bucks.
I have 4 does right now and the big boys are moving now. So we will get our deer help the neighbors and hopefully at least have enough for the next year.

So I went the restaurant Depot today.
Even there getting thin on stuff. Never seen that before, even in the hight of the hysteria.
Plenty of fresh meat.
Really low on frozen seafood and frozen veggies. That was the most noticable.
Had no shortening.
No yellow type rice. Saw some people asking the employees. Plenty of regular brown/white.

AVOW seemed to go private/subscription only after their association with Chad Daybell was revealed. There was a lot of woo on the site. I'm not saying that the stock up warning is woo but some of their postings are a bit out there. It's a hang out for LDS end times types that believe Eastern Idaho will be the gathering place for the survivors.

Winco in Oregon has turkeys. I bought one and plan on canning the meat. Frozen turkey doesn't taste that good, but canned it tastes great! Get one now, can it, and you'll have turkey dinner.

It wasn't a Butterball, which I didn't see any of, but turkey is turkey.

Which, for my money, is bonkers because the second Yellowstone goes up, there goes that. But that's just me.

Something is gonna getcha.

Fire, flood, accident, tornado, military jet crashing into your house, Hydrogenated Fats, Pockyclips, something.

Yellowstone is going to be a real problem, one day. What day? Who knows.

The trick is to balance the risks; 'cause no matter how ya slice it, something is gonna getcha.

And try to have a little happiness and fun along the way.
