Wife and I each have a 1970 mustang coup. Hers has a 302. mine gas zero drivetrain but was a six banger. We got them both for 2 g's total. Well 2500 with the title issues...

But...

They both need complete restoration.

Fun.
DV2,
As a Shelby & Mustang owner/restorer/road racer of 45+ years, a little advice:

** FUN.. you say! **
Save your money, time, health, sanity & your marriage. Sell both shells but before you do, to confirm my suggestion here, each of you take turns placing your wrench hand on a flat surface, knuckles down and with a 5 lb. hammer (with a muzzle on) whack the crap out of each others hands as many times as it takes to either a) pass out or b) blood splatters everywhere. While at the ER, you can each reflect on all the time, money, health, sanity & marriage that you'll save by NOT continuing in the folly of this endeavor. The pain will go away, you'll still have your bank account, health, sanity & marriage still in tact. WIN/WIN!

YOU'RE WELCOME!

My 3rd grade teacher, mrs. Gramling had one of these. Same color blue, blue brocade interior. 289 with believe it or not a 4 speed on the floor. I LOVED riding in that car. she was close to retirement age and yet drove a stick. she liked to get on it too. she was an incredible teacher, and her choice of cars to this 9 year old boy was awesome!

Sorry everybody - 90% of the cars on the road do indeed look like my 2007 Ubiquitous - which I drove off the Anchorage Chevrolet showroom floor.

Due to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, it was inevitable! ;)

...in simple terms: The second law of thermodynamics states that as energy is transferred or transformed, more and more of it is wasted. So....

Just one example of the bland color palate available for one model of vehicle.

What carmakers need to do is bring back the what i call 'early 70's M&M candy colors. Bright greens, real orange orange, cream colors. Cars of that time had styling to carry off these colors too. Bold colors, really reflective of the personalities that drive them (which is probably why all the car colors are dark and boring today-like their owners).

i had a 78 Alfetta sedan that was cream colored with a brown velour interior. Dual sidedraft 40DC0E Weber carbs, a nice lumpy speed cam in it; blacked out hood, no bumper up front (but 2 giant Cibie driving lights) and sitting on Campanolo slotted alloys with Michelin Pilot tires. People would laugh at the little old lady color until I left them in the dust. A car the size of a Honda Civic that would eat "performance cars" for lunch.

Pgh Panther,

..a Parnelli story...
1990 Palm Springs SVRA race with most of the original team drivers (Sam Posey, George Follmer, etc. & factory cars in attendance, my friend who was an accomplished BOSS 302 driver/builder was on the Group 8 grid with George Follmer, Rufus P. Jones as well as other marque notables in their Chevys & Mopars. My friends hero was Parnelli and his car was an exact copy (down to the decals) of Parnellis '70 Ford factory TA ( Mustang Club of America) team car #16. Yes, an original "G" code Boss, 100 % legal, stock motor unlike both of Follmers & Parnellis cheater motors, both team cars were factory liteweight "dipped" cars.. My friend came in second only too his hero, PJ. After the race, PJ came over to our pits and introduced himself, then congratulated my friend on his race & his car prep. Class guy PJ!
That was the same race event I saw my first restored (McCluskey) Cobra Daytona Coupe & a '65 GT350 "R" Models (Mack Yates, OK.) each restored to perfection!
Also, met the Snake Charmer, Ol' Shel hisself just after his heart transplant. Went on to be one of Carrolls parts vendors for his Cobra 2.0 project later in the decade.
......
Heady times back then. Great memories, got the pix too..somewhere....!

Melodi, it’s true that cars are higher off the ground these days. Also, the metal part of the doors goes up at least 4” higher than it used to. For example, in my Murano, it’s uncomfortable to put my arm out on the windowsill, while in my Aurora the height is perfect. However, as an older guy, it’s easier to get into the higher Murano. Getting into and out of the Aurora is a real challenge, and once inside and driving, it feels like I’m in a go-cart it’s so low. The top of the roof comes up to just under my chest, while the top of the Murano comes up to my neck (at least.)

Funny, I was just telling my husband that all cars looked alike. Back in the 70’s I could tell you the car by the tail lights. Now the cars are B. O. R. I. N. G.!!! I would like an old big station wagon. Not too high ( I’m 5’2”), with plenty on room for making bed in back to put sleeping children at the drive-in theater! Of course you might get 10 miles to the gallon. Yes, I’m a senior but we had the best times as a kid. I love Mecum’s car auctions on TV.

What amazing racing/automotive industry experience you had.................we couldn't have a Shelby today in the automotive world.......the character and legends behind the headlights of the industry are all but gone from cars today.
