AUSTIN, Texas (KWTX) - Governor Greg Abbott on Thursday issued an executive order authorizing and empowering the Texas National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety to apprehend undocumented immigrants who illegally cross the border between ports of entry and return them to the border.

“While President Biden refuses to do his job and enforce the immigration laws enacted by Congress, the State of Texas is once again stepping up and taking unprecedented action to protect Americans and secure our southern border,” said Governor Abbott. “The cartels have become emboldened and enriched by President Biden’s open border policies, smuggling in record numbers of people, weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl.”

As noted in the executive order, the Biden Administration “has abandoned the covenant, in Article IV, § 4 of the U.S. Constitution, that ‘[t]he United States . . . shall protect each [State in this Union] against Invasion,’ and thus has forced the State of Texas to build a border wall, deploy state military forces, and enter into agreements as described in Article I, § 10 of the U.S. Constitution to secure the State of Texas and repel the illegal immigration that funds the cartels.”

“I have authorized the Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety to begin returning illegal immigrants to the border to stop this criminal enterprise endangering our communities,” continued Governor Abbott. “As the challenges on the border continue to increase, Texas will continue to take action to address those challenges caused by the Biden Administration.”

Doesn't using the Texas National Guard vs the State Guard leave him open to being countermanded by the Federal National Guard Command?

TX DPS, as a State LEA, is pretty much out of the direct command loop here but what about the National Guard?

Well.it said to take them to the border. Then what ? Just let them out, and they are still in Texas ? Or are they going to put them out on the south side of the Rio Grande, in Mexico.

Also, still no word on declaring an invasion ?

:hmm:

the gov has pretty much complete control until National wants to use the Guard for Title(s) other than 10, IIRC.

BUT National CAN get told to pound sand if the Guv is doing something with HIS National Guard Troops.

(better-informed folks feel free to correct me)

Abbot must've heard Ben Berquam (sp?) on Bannon this morning. He was called out for not doing anything. We'll see if this current action has any teeth or is it just to calm the masses?

I wonder if those declarations of an invasion that were just made were 'crossing T's and dotting i's' in some fashion in order to lay the ground work...?

..either way, I'm sure, legally or otherwise, the effort to do right will be strictly forbidden and heavily punished : (

the 4 Texas County Judges DID declare the existence of an invasion.

remember that a Judge in Texas has a screwy set of authorities and POWAHS!

It was. The county sheriffs & judges in the boarder counties had a press conference yesterday declaring what they were gonna per the Constitution. (Sorry, on phone & don‘t remember which section). Problem was the Governor had to sign something. As of this morning, those officials were in Austin trying to force him (gently). The War Room this morning put out the call to melt his phones. Guess it worked.

So what will this actually do?
Cost Texas taxpayers a bunch of money and cost illegals an extra day of travel.
Also it will tie up LEOs that could be better doing something else.
I do understand that Abbot wants to do something and the citizens of Texas want him to do something but I fail to see how this will help.

Ben Bergquam said that Abbott did not declare an invasion to prevent the illegals from touching foot on our soil by turning them back. So all it does is have the Guard collect them and turn them over to the feds.

DON'T FALL For this Political BS / SPIN
All TX is going to be doing is effectively giving FREE rides to illegals back to ICE processing centers - THEY ARE NOT pushing them back to Mexico.
If TX wanted to do something - nothing like rolls of razor wire at the major crossing points - would be a good start - if you can't walk across to the US bank of a river - helps keep them in Mexico.
