A gift for Mom
Mom is a do not get it, does not want to get, will fight anyone trying to impose the idea on her reality with the tenacity of the marines taking Iwo Jima and with the grace and manners of an old school matron make the imposer feel guilty for the attempt. Thank you very much! Sigh.
This weekend I went for a visit and dropped off a box. It was one of those plastic bins with a snap on lid that can be bought for under $10.00 and is roughly the size of a 40 gallon fish tank. From memory here is what was in it:
1 gallon jar of dried rice
1 gallon jar of mixed dried beans, peas & lentiles
1 jar of salt
1 jar of sugar
1 jar of dried mixed veggies
1 jar of peanut butter
1 quart jar of homemade strawberry jam
1 box of crackers
4 boxes of spaghetti
2 cans spaghetti sauce
1 container of tang (small)
2 small canned hams
1 round canister of oatmeal
1 box of stuffing with herbs
1 bottle of olive oil
1 plastic bottle of shampoo
4 bars hand soap
2 tooth brushes
1 container dental floss
1 plastic bottle dish soap
1 tube tooth paste
1 package - 10 boxes of wooden matches with 32 matches in each small box
1 small hand towel to act as cushioning between the glass jars
She immediately dug into the box saying I could have the box back. I said "No the box is part of the gift." I explained the gift was designed to be held onto for emergencies. She thanked me and we tucked it in a closet. The visit went well and as we parted she told me she would be getting out the dried veggies. She loves to make soup. Sigh.
