SYDNEY -- The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 has hit the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a small 9-inch tsunami hit Vanuatu's capital Port Vila after the quake and warned bigger waves may still be seen in other areas.

The quake hit Tuesday about 25 miles northwest of Port Vila at a depth of 22 miles, according to the USGS.

It's strange that this 7.5 quake never posted to the email site I subscribe to. I received a 5.8 which I'm sure must have been an aftershock. But the recorded parameters are missing on the original. Interesting.
