Buildings damaged & collapsed after Haiti hit with ‘major’ 7.2 quake
14 Aug, 2021 12:58 / Updated 1 minute ago

A magnitude-7.2 earthquake has been reported near the coast of Haiti. The major tremor was more powerful than the 2010 quake that devastated the Caribbean nation.
The earthquake hit early on Saturday morning, with the United States Geological Survey putting its intensity at magnitude 7.2, or “major.” The epicenter was 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) northeast of Saint-Louis-du-Sud, a town of more than 50,000 inhabitants.
Severe damage has been reported on Haiti, with images showing partially collapsed buildings and rubble-strewn streets.

Just in time for another chapter of Disaster Capitolism!
Cathy Hay of Foundations Revealed (sometimes I think the Cosmos has a harsh sense of humor) is still trying to finish her Peacock dress, started as a fundraiser from the last big Haiti quake. Maybe she can use the ongoing project to raise some more money for this one. At least hers is a good faith attempt.

Nevertheless, based on two interviews on the project, she IS a bit woke, and well meaning, but naive, given her take on the British in India (which I do agree with), and the American born "money princess" who wore the dress at the 1902 gala. There is something ironic in that saga, THAT opulent gown, and THAT particular island (OMG, the contrast), but I can't quite tease it out...maybe Scroggins (Emma's War, re. the Sudan) could "have a go" at it, weaving in the bigger pic. with the Clinton's (and the wedding dress their fundraising paid for) as well.

If this article is true, this just stopped being funny (at least for me)...

Haiti earthquake – Huge magnitude 7 quake strikes in Caribbean as THOUSANDS feared dead after buildings collapse

THOUSANDS are feared dead and many more injured after a major earthquake struck western Haiti on Saturday, forcing people to flee their homes amid fears buildings might collapse.
The magnitude 7 earthquake struck 8 km from the town of Petit Trou de Nippes, about 150 km west of the capital Port-au-Prince, at a depth of 10 km, the US Geological Survey said.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) has estimated “thousands of fatalities” and “tens of thousands of injuries in poor mountainous communities."
“High casualties are probable and the disaster is likely widespread,” the USGS said around an hour after the quake.
Images posted to social media also showed significant damage to buildings including collapsed homes and rubble splayed across the road.
Economic losses could range in the tens of millions, USGS reports.
The country is still recovering from a magnitude 7 earthquake closer to the capital 11 years ago that killed at least 250,000 people, injured 300,000, and displaced more than 1.5 million.
"Everyone is really afraid. It's been years since such a big earthquake," Daniel Ross, a resident in the eastern Cuban city of Guantanamo, told Reuters, adding that his home stood firm but the furniture shook.

Naomi Verneus, a 34-year-old resident of Port-au-Prince, told the AP she was jolted awake by the earthquake and that her bed was shaking.
“I woke up and didn’t have time to put my shoes on. We lived the 2010 earthquake and all I could do was run," she said.
"I later remembered my two kids and my mother were still inside. My neighbor went in and told them to get out. We ran to the street."
A video posted to social media depicted a chaotic and frightening scene in Les Cayes, where a building had collapsed onto a street and panic-stricken residents are heard crying out in the background.
The earthquake was also felt across the Caribbean, including in Jamaica and Cuba.

The US Tsunami Warning System said "hazardous tsunami waves are forecast" with waves reaching one to three meters above the tide level possible along the coast of Haiti.
A series of smaller aftershocks continued to shake the island after the original quake, USGS reported.

It comes just over two weeks since a massive 8.2 earthquake rattled buildings in Alaska and prompted Tsunami warnings in Hawaii.
Earlier Saturday, a 6.9 earthquake hit the southeast of Alaska. So far no injuries have been reported.
The quake was also felt in Cuba and Jamaica

While I hate that this happened to them. And they probably need help. I will not be sending any.

We sent a good bit that last time. And the corruption was so overwhelming that people are still living in blue tents years later. Clinton Foundation, and the Haitian government got most of it.

I am done sending money anywhere. Will give aid in my community, with no problem.

Melodi, I didn't say that I found it funny ("harsh," and considered both "sadistic" and "nasty" as descriptors in its place). Cosmic giggles abound, but this isn't a giggle, and who/whatever passes for *God/s* of our reality has a Janus face.

Haiti's trajedy is a big story because you can find all the World's mis-guided good intentions and outright self-serving hypocrisy in it. That is all I was trying to say.

Oh Sorry, I didn't mean anyone, in particular, shouldn't be joking, I was making jokes too (maybe just at home - I've been too busy trying to watch too many breaking trainwrecks at once).

I said the same thing about the Clinton Foundation to Nightwolf and other stuff - it was just a shock to see it go from - there's been a quake to "OMG, this one was even bigger than the last one and it may be worse!"

It has been upgraded to a 7.2....

But sometimes you have to laugh, I learned that lesson during the HIV epidemic...[/QUOTE]

My earthquake app on my phone has gone off constantly for the past I don't know how many days. I have it set for anything over a 5. It really started with the 7.6 in the Sandwich Islands on Thursday. A lot or rocking and rolling going on.

Looked on you tube for a live video. All I found was a short clip from a TV meteorologist saying they had a "small" 7.2 earthquake.

I spoke to some Army Civil Affairs and State Department people who served there, years ago. They all agreed that Haiti has no hope whatsoever. Sad to hear.

Is Haiti even a real country?
Last I heard they did not even have a city sewer system anywhere in the country.

I said on another thread that it seemed like there was a lot of strong earthquake activity the past few days. Thanks for your comment, now I know I was not imagining it.

This too shall pass.
Makes the strong argument for living in a grass hut, on a flat spot, far away from the cities.......

I've thought of that, or at least a bamboo hut (technically still a grass hut, since bamboo is a grass), but then they have hurricanes, too....

get ready for climate lock-downs. The earth worshipers will blame it on us and use it as a pretext for more control.
Oh ya I bet social credit score will be up and running very soon. Major points for your acceptance of climate change.
