INSANITY 16-month-old girl dies after Ohio mom leaves her home alone to go on vacation in Puerto Rico for over a week

God has a plan, Trust it!
This makes me so mad. Not only for the child, but the lack of investigation/reporting.

A few years ago, DCF took the children unjustly from my BIL and SIL. One summer day, the children were playing in the front yard and Mom was sitting on the front steps watching them (they were 7 and 8). They were playing in their own yard, but on the edge not far from the sidewalk in a large cardboard box. Mom ran inside to make lunch for them. A drunken driver ran the curb and purposefully ran over the box with the children in it dragging them both about 100 ft. (BTW, the drunken driver got off on charges because he was a former PD).

Police arrested both BIL and SIL for neglect and they spent 6 months in jail, separated from their children who needed them as they were in the hospital going through skin grafts and surgeries. They did nothing wrong. They did nothing that any of us hadnt done in our lifetimes. My parents never stayed outside with me as I played. SIL was only gone for a short while to make the lunch.

So that gets me. This woman who is a true harm to her children keeps her children, and good parents get them taken.

DHHR workers, Social Service, etc. are sorely lacking in the US. You can report it, and maybe live long enough to see an investigation. Even emergency custody requests require paperwork. I went through this. Only by the Grace of God, did I get custody. However, neighbors could have requested a welfare check.

So flipping awful this happened. RIP Babygirl, no one will hurt you again. God bless her :rs:
All of our social fabric is rent, sometimes in such taters as to make it useless.
As I've said, if we want a safety net for the most vulnerable amongst us, the time has arrived that we have to set aside our 'rugged individualism' roots, and become that for one another.

Intelligent, educated people abuse their children too. I could tell you things you wouldn't want to know.
Sometimes more likely, due to the cover their position and wealth give them to continue their various abuses.

So who's ultimately to blame??
I understand, and find much to agree with in your post, but for me the bottom line is, and has to remain, that we each and everyone are responsible for our own behaviors. Were we to remember that, and that one day we'd be called to stand in the prescence of the Lord and see those experiences through his disappointed eyes, we'd probably have a massive drop off in stories like this one.

Your story is infuriating- and I'm sure your family is not the only one that has suffered in these ways.
Thank goodness the kids survived.
..hopefully the driver was kicked into some kind of come to jesus moment and was able and willing to change his ways before something even worse happened to his innocent victims : (

I simply don’t want to believe this true….. :shk:
I'm sorry to assure you that it is, and this, and far far worse happens every.single.day in this country.

But the more I think on this, I wonder if she did not expect that some neighbors or relatives or friends would stop in and step up and tend to the girl. Not because of her decent heart, but because dead babies are a messy drag.

Keep thinking back to casey anthony case here.

Cleveland woman indicted on murder charges after leaving her 16-month-old child alone for 10 days, prosecutors say

Michelle Watson, CNN

(CNN) — A Cleveland woman has been indicted on murder charges after she left her 16-month-old child alone for 10 days while she vacationed in Detroit and Puerto Rico and the baby died, prosecutors say.
“On June 6, 2023, Kristel Candelario left her 16-month-old daughter alone and unattended at her residence near Lorain Avenue and West 97th Street in Cleveland,” a Monday release from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said. “She did not return to her child until June 16, 2023, around 8 a.m. Upon returning, Candelario found her 16-month-old daughter unresponsive and called the police.”

Authorities declared the “extremely dehydrated” 16-month-old dead on arrival, according to the release. The girl was found in a Pack ‘n Play pen “on a liner soiled with urine and feces with soiled blankets,” the release said.
Candelario was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, felonious assault, and endangering children, prosecutors say.
Court records indicate she’s being held in jail on a $1 million bond with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. ET.

New update on this one. She pled guilty to murder, and might get life.

Fair use cited so on and so forth.

An Ohio mom who left her 16-month-old daughter alone in a playpen for 10 days, leading to the child’s death, has pleaded guilty to aggregated murder and other crimes, the Associated Press reports.

Kristel Candelario, 32, of Cleveland, left her daughter, Jailyn, in their home when she went on vacation to Detroit and Puerto Rico during June 2023, AP reports. When she returned, the child was still in the playpen and was not breathing. Candelario called 911. The child was “extremely dehydrated” and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy found that Jailyn died of starvation and severe dehydration, the report said.

Candelario faces up to life in prison, the report said. Her sentencing is set for March 18 in Cuyahoga County court.

This is so horrifying on so many levels.

16 months old. That's about the age when toddlers can normally already walk, & start heading toward the "terrible two's". In other words, how many 16-month-olds do you know who would stay in a playpen for a couple of hours, much less 10 days????? (Well, a few days, depending on when she died. :( )

This poor child must have been depressed, had delayed development, and/or was already weak, from neglect, lack of love or human interaction, prenatal drugs, ___. What a sad and lonely life. :(

On TB every waking moment
I have heard that neglected babies learn not to cry - they learn it doesn't help or bring comfort.

As for the mother, what she did was evil. I suspect drugs or mental incompetence were at play, or both.
When I served on social service, child abuse & mental health service boards 10+ years ago, we had an issue the methamphetamine babies and "Attachment Disorder." Mom's would get high & completely ignore their infant's needs. The infants would be unusually quiet until things were life threatening, then they would be explosively loud and angry. This continued into pre-school & kindergarten where we had a rash of expelling toddlers and little ones from school. Their learned behavior was to explosively and violently act out to get their needs and wants met.

We tried to provide supplementary intensive treatment, but it became prohibitively expensive and swallowed up the budget for help for a broader group. We finally provided a drive for prenatal drug intervention, newborn visiting nurse visits & worked with the courts to provide mandatory remedial parenting classes.

I got the court's permission to go on some of the child abuse visits. There was one that haunts me to this day - a couple who were both lawyers. They had three little girls. They had strapped them into car seats during the day. They couldn't walk and their growth was stunted. They were placed in a foster home.

I've heard it said that the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. Just a sickening lack of compassion for her own offspring. Heck, an animal wouldn't evened. do such a thing as abandoning a healthy infant!
Actually they will in odd circumstances. Had a cow give birth to a calf in the barn. It was in a cold winter that was why we put her in the barn. The calf when born was pushed under the wall (there was some clearance) so that the calf wound up in another stall. When the situation was rectified in the morning; the mother would kick at the calf violently. It fell to my younger brother to rectify the situation. The cow was very obstinate. Little brother picked up the situation very quickly and it pissed him off immensely. He roped mama up short to a foundation post in the stall. Then tried to get calf to nurse. No luck. She still kicked violently. Being resourceful, he decided to give her negative reinforcement. Little calf desperately tried to nurse. Nope. She would kick violently. Little brother held the calf up, every time she kicked he would reach frontward and hit her right between the horns with a hammer handle. After an hour or two, she was reduced to a quivering mass and let the calf nurse.
After that mom and calf were loving and affectionate with each other.
Not sure how to apply those lessons here; but I am sure it would have an edifying effect.

Has No Life - Lives on TB
I have often wondered why God didn’t link fertility and IQ’s.
He did. But the overriding factor was the free choice given to mankind and that kicked in a new program of destruction and death.

Now this beast went on "vacation". From what? Does it work a job or has it been given free housing and monthly free money & food? Make life harder for these monsters and they will stop breeding.

Just awful. I think she should be put in solitary confinement and fed only bread and water for the rest of her days, and do not give her a toilet.
