A 16-month-old girl is dead after her mother left her alone in their Cleveland home for about 10 days to go on an island vacation, according to police and reports.

Kristel Candelario, 31, is facing a murder charge after the child wasn’t taken care of for more than a week, police said in a news release last Thursday. The 16-month-old was pronounced dead when first responders arrived at the home on June 16, authorities said.

Candelario was on a trip to Puerto Rico and Detroit while the baby was left on her own inside the home, a police affidavit obtained by NBC News states.
The mother allegedly fessed up to police she left her daughter, Jailyn, “at home, all alone and unattended,” according to the affidavit.

Candelario said when she got home, her child was “extremely dehydrated,” the affidavit states. The baby’s pen “consisted of soiled blankets and a bottom liner, saturated with urine and feces,” the affidavit states.

The baby girl was left in the house for more than a week, police said. Court TV
A neighbor told WEWS that this wasn’t the first time Candelario left her baby alone in the home.

“We keep telling her not to leave her by herself, not just me, my friend across the street too, but she always leave her by herself,” the neighbor said.

Candelario lives in the house with her two daughters and her parents, but recently her parents took Candelario’s oldest daughter with them on vacation, neighbors said.
“There were so many people here; she could have knocked on any of our doors and asked us to take Jailyn,” another neighbor told the station.

The child’s body was moved to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination as the investigation is ongoing, police said.

It's my opinion as well, JM.

I loathe virtue signalling mean "church" girls, nosey neighbors, and interference as a general rule, but I guarantee you no neighbor of mine would lose a child due to abuse or neglect, because when it's an innocent underage victim, I become that interfering neighbor.

What gets me is that neighbors and others who knew this beast were AWARE she does this, and NO ONE called the cops on her. Unbelievable.

Kitty Genovese taught us that people will let it pass.
I just can't believe that no one heard the child screaming or crying. If they knew she had a habit of doing this, and they heard constant crying, you'd think someone would investigate. I would've broken a window and busted that kid out, then, when mommy came home, had her arrested and made sure she never had access to either of her children again. This thing needs to suffer exactly what she put that baby through.

Not saying this was not pure evil! Cause it is.

But will muse, that our ancestors had to do it sometimes to. But they left food, water etc..

Also they did it after they thought there kids had a good chance of survival.

Also our ancestors had to do it to survive. Why having the old folks around really paid off.

Usually the old held the camp down. But if there was no old the kids had to survive on there own.

Challenge your kids but always under you or yours supervision I know.

Just our ancestors sometimes had no choice.

This mother was/is just a POS though.

I have heard that neglected babies learn not to cry - they learn it doesn't help or bring comfort.

As for the mother, what she did was evil. I suspect drugs or mental incompetence were at play, or both.

They didn’t go on vacation, HUGE difference!

There are no words that can describe the sadness that this depraved female has created with the death of her child in such a heinous manner.

The baby is in the arms of Jesus in complete happiness and love.

This female, for she was not a mother, will stand in front of God.

I had a neighbor in the 1960's who used to leave her 2-year-old ds and 8-month-old dd alone while she took her husband to work so daddy was aware. More than once I went and got them. I'm sure she left them at other times I was unaware. She was later murdered by a boyfriend and her mother raised the kids. I don't know why it never occurred to me that I should have called the police. When you live in a rough neighborhood you tend to keep your head down.

Where I am supposed to be.
DHHR workers, Social Service, etc. are sorely lacking in the US. You can report it, and maybe live long enough to see an investigation. Even emergency custody requests require paperwork. I went through this. Only by the Grace of God, did I get custody. However, neighbors could have requested a welfare check.

So flipping awful this happened. RIP Babygirl, no one will hurt you again. God bless her :rs:

I know of a situation where a neighbor called for a welfare check on a child.

There are numerous children in the house. They were all wanted. All fed and clean. All in church every time the door is opened.

A preteen decided it a good idea to climb out their 2nd story bedroom window onto a gently sloping roof to make snow angels.

Instead of the nosey neighbor calling the mother and asking if she knew her kid was on the roof she called "the law".

The investigation was unproductive long and unnecessary. I could recount several 2nd hand stories why I hold child protective services in low esteem.

The monster in post 1 was a criminal. There was a process and ample laws to address the issue. More goobermint employees would NOT make that situation better.

I suspect government aid enabled her to get to the condition in which she found herself. I would not be surprised that government aid could be traced in her lineage back to President LBJ.

So who's ultimately to blame??

Finally not a lurker!
Few people want to be busy bodies or snitches but there are limits to 'minding your own business '. Years ago in a mall I saw a little boy, maybe 3, running around alone and crying. I brought him to the attention of a security guard who went over to the kid. The parents arrived about five minutes later and needless to say began yelling at the guard.

IMO, she knew the child would not survive and I hope she is charged with murder and not manslaughter or some other reduced charge. From another article, I read somewhere last night, she had a history of leaving the child with neighbors and not coming back for weeks, not sure if that is true. Such a sad and heartbreaking story. What a horrendous death for the poor baby girl. I hope this "mother" loses all freedom and is incarcerated for the rest of her life.
