MOSCOW – The Kremlin says President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have discussed the situation along Syria's border with Israel.

The Kremlin said the leaders discussed "the situation in Syria in the context of joint efforts to ensure security around the Syrian-Israeli border" on a Friday call. It added they "voiced readiness to strengthen coordination on Syria, including on combating international terrorism."

The conversation follows up on the two leaders' talks in Moscow and the Israeli defense minister's visit to Russia last month.

The Syrian government's plans to recapture rebel-held areas near the border raised Israeli concerns its other backers besides Russia — Iran and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah — could reaffirm their presence there. Israel has warned it wouldn't allow Iran to maintain a military presence in Syria.

Convoy of Russian military equipment spotted near Ukrainian border in Transnistria

A convoy of Russian military equipment heading towards the Ukrainian border has been reported by social media users.

"A convoy of Russian armored vehicles, having left the base of the Russian Arme Forces, is moving on the Tiraspol - Ribnița Highway, a few kilometers away from the Ukrainian border. This is the security zone. They are not allowed to be there," expert Artem Filipenko wrote on Facebook. He also posted photo and video of the convoy.

"On June 14, starting at 08:30, on the route Tiraspol - Ribnița, three columns with various types of military equipment and armored vehicles were identified (TAB, BRDM) moving towards Grigoriopol – Dubesar. The convoy was accompanied by special vehicles of militia’s government structures. After being asked about the convoy, Transnistrian representative of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) noted that all military equipment of Tiraspol is in the places of permanent deployment and has not been transferred to the security zone. The Russian representatives stated that they would document the incident and would inform the JCC at the next meeting that will take place on June 21, 2018", - the statement issued by the Moldavian representatives of the JCC reads.
