"Roast me" in a picture online means "make fun of me", like "take your best shot at humiliating me".

Basically someone begging for attention by requesting people take their best shots at humiliating them based on their picture. Many end up with shots at them like “your eyes are so far apart you can see predators sneaking up behind you” or “wow, I’ve never seen a five head before” but some are more creative and I posted two of them I found , one in here and one in the dirty thread. Due to Dennis’s request, I will abstain from more.
Pity about the roast pic stoppage. I had just found a brutal one....

Yeah, I’ve heard of a roast. I also saw an explanation on the funnies thread over the first “roast me” post, when I said I didn’t understand the humor. The explanation was as I gave above. In my subsequent comment, I said that a “roast” was a celebrity fest where a person is lampooned. Well, evidently that meaning has changed and the wiki has yet to be updated.
I was surprised as well, but not surprised enough to try and slap down what someone (me) posted without checking privately with the person (me) as to how I came up with the definition.
I suggest summer, that you perform a more in-depth dive into this, and report back on a stand-alone thread what you discover (either way.)
Until then, no more “roast” pics/memes.

Actually, I went back through this thread to find out what the image was that caused this issue, if you look behind the girl there is a poster promoting Tim Horton’s here in Canada. When they were promoting the new “dark roast coffee” they had a promotion that if you shared pictures of yourself saying you want the dark roast coffee, then you got a free coffee.
Not saying the term is not used in a nefarious manner elsewhere but this one appears innocent.

At least it's not one of those great big floor models from the 60's, 70's, and 80's! Which were awesome, by the way, but ridiculously heavy.
