Former US president Donald Trump claimed on Saturday (March 18) that he was expecting to get "arrested" on Tuesday next week and appeared to ask supporters to start protesting.
Citing a "leak" from the Manhattan district attorney's office, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday morning:
"Leading Republican candidate & former President of the United States of America will be arrested on Tuesday of next week. Protest, take our nation back!"
The investigation centers on $130,000 paid weeks before the 2016 polls to stop Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, from going public about an affair she says she had with Trump years earlier.

Prosecutors are weighing whether to charge Trump in the case.
If the Manhattan district attorney were to indict Trump, the 76-year-old would become the first former president to be charged with a crime.

Trump has denied having an affair with Daniels.

This is the reason for President Trump's message. He's telling the Dem-controlled DA's office that the arrest, any arrest, will have the opposite political effect than what they desire.
If they don't arrest him, they look like chumps. If they are asked why they didn't arrest him, they'll probably say they had no intention to arrest him, or least not right now, and people will wonder even more why all the time and money is being spent on the prosecution.
If they do arrest him, people will lose it. If they arrest him and deny him bail, for what amounts to a white-collar crime, the losing it will only get worse.
His popularity will expand from this.

The article differentiates between "Binding authority" and "Persuasive authority." In this case state courts are the "binding" and Federal courts are "persuasive." (i.e. overrule state courts.)
Having previously survived a decision in a Federal Court a Trump state case is "moot." Not to say that Manhattan won't try to pursue it. The rationale in NOT the outcome, but rather the "noise." And MEEDIA attention.
I can see this one may even go to incarcerating Trump - think "Optics." For the Democrats, Trump in handcuffs is like cribbing the stall - there is an "erotic" fascination with the appearance and the "feelz" this brings them.
BUT - I can also see Trump spending a night in the pokey - and being released the next day as the significance of the case becomes more evident - and the potential for bad press is made apparent when a decision is overturned Federally in "double jeopardy."
