Living in New Orleans is kinda like living in a foreign country. I loved the food I grew up with, southern, but got very little of it living in NO. My taste has always been towards non processed and more natural foods. And I've been "into" health foods all my adult life.I've never had Ezekiel bread, but I have heard about it. I'd love to try some.
Just so you, Judy, and everyone will know why I say some of this confusion about food is cultural. She is half Japanese, and was raised in a Japanese household in the most northern part of Montana. When they moved down here, everything, even our food, was different than what they've always eaten. Her whole family, mother and sister, have had a hard time adjusting to our way of life, culture, temps, and food. Even the way we talk is foreign to them, LOL. They are all city folks, too. I'm sure I would be the same way if we moved North, being used to our own Southern culture, food, and way of life.
Hence, the common fare around here is not to my taste very much. Even the chicken and dumplings all taste like slop to me, not what I grew up with. The women my age don't cook like their mothers did. Everything was home grown and made from ingredients and not a box.
Like the meals at church, I'll taste things, a spoon full and that's it. I was helping put serving pieces out and I asked what something was, it was peanut butter cake, its a white cake mix with an icing with peanut butter. Needless to say I didn't eat any of it. I probably would have gag'd on it.
Ezekiel bread has a hard texture, my ex said it tasted like card board. Its best toasted.
This is my third day of not eating after 4:00 pm The first night was difficult, last night wasn't too bad and so far tonight no problem.
