I've never had Ezekiel bread, but I have heard about it. I'd love to try some.

Just so you, Judy, and everyone will know why I say some of this confusion about food is cultural. She is half Japanese, and was raised in a Japanese household in the most northern part of Montana. When they moved down here, everything, even our food, was different than what they've always eaten. Her whole family, mother and sister, have had a hard time adjusting to our way of life, culture, temps, and food. Even the way we talk is foreign to them, LOL. They are all city folks, too. I'm sure I would be the same way if we moved North, being used to our own Southern culture, food, and way of life.
Living in New Orleans is kinda like living in a foreign country. I loved the food I grew up with, southern, but got very little of it living in NO. My taste has always been towards non processed and more natural foods. And I've been "into" health foods all my adult life.

Hence, the common fare around here is not to my taste very much. Even the chicken and dumplings all taste like slop to me, not what I grew up with. The women my age don't cook like their mothers did. Everything was home grown and made from ingredients and not a box.

Like the meals at church, I'll taste things, a spoon full and that's it. I was helping put serving pieces out and I asked what something was, it was peanut butter cake, its a white cake mix with an icing with peanut butter. Needless to say I didn't eat any of it. I probably would have gag'd on it.

Ezekiel bread has a hard texture, my ex said it tasted like card board. Its best toasted.

This is my third day of not eating after 4:00 pm The first night was difficult, last night wasn't too bad and so far tonight no problem.

We've had three invitations for dinner tomorrow. Its supposed to rain all day starting early. The last one came from a cousin whose holiday meals we've enjoyed in the past, so we know everyone that will be there. Its nice, but we will probably just stay home. I found the recipe for tuna noodle casserole and its simple to make.

We're having our usual family get together. Everyone has their own items to bring that have been tested through the years and enough variety that those that don't care for a dish or two have plenty to offset it with.
We've lost some members this past year (they were in their 90s) but their dishes are being picked up by those that know how to prepare them. Very little is "city food" - most is home grown/slaughtered - exceptions being cranberries and the turkeys.
I pray you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and those with illnesses recuperate quickly.

Our rain isn't expected until after dark, so we got lucky there :)

Oh, and on prepping, gasoline is down to $2.80, so reserves will be topped off in the a.m.

ETA: Yes @KewPee , goats can choke. Not often, but.....

I'm glad to read several of you are staying home, alone or with husband/wife/etc........dh is doing very poorly...Parkinson's is robbing him of abilities.......numb hands/finger/extremities/etc. Loss of appetite and ability to chew & swallow is progressing...no use cooking because he won't/can't eat so much..........our sons are friendsgiving (don't like that moniker) and will be fine......house will be very quiet, warm, and perhaps some soup for supper. It's so damp & cold tonight along front range.....thankful NOT TO HAVE GUESTS/FAMILY..........it's sad but my ability to cope with much is diminishing as dh takes most of my time.........GOD BE WITH US ALL

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Woke up to rain this morning which was really nice, especially since it isn't in the teens or 20's overnight right now or we would just have an ice rink. My daughter has to work today but plans to leave early so we can have our meal together later.

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

Everything is all prepared and ready to go. I'll need to warm the dressing and giblet gravy, before we leave. DS only lives about 2 miles from us, so it should stay warm. If not, it can be reheated, once we get there. Loading all of this in the car then unloading it is gonna be a challenge.

I'm going to get to meet my new grand-doggie baby, today, for the first time! Her name is Petra. She was a throw-away at their front door, and DS and DDIL took her in. She is spoiled rotten, too. I've only seen pictures of her.

Rain is in our forecast, but it's supposed to come in later this afternoon. Hopefully, it will hold off, at least, until we get the car loaded and unloaded.

Praying that everyone has a great, safe, and blessed day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all...praying for all as we go into winter...
Our dinner will be traditional but simple...since there are just the two of us....Turkey, dressing,. steamed asparagus with butter... cranberry sauce..and ripe olives..and homemade pumpkin pie with whipped cream for dessert and clam dip and chips to munch on while the turkey is cooking..and driving us crazy.at least we will eat for days on the leftovers
This year we are truly thankful to have the new fur kid....she is so good..we suspect this will be the first time she has tasted turkey bird...
Well time to get in the kitchen....

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We are eating at grand daughters today. This is her first time to cook a turkey and she has been worried about it. I told her it is pretty hard to ruin a turkey. Her mom will be helping her. Looking forward to a houseful of kids. I love them but I get tired just watching their energy.

We've decided to go to my cousin's house, hers was the last invite. The people that will be at her house mostly go to our church. The other two invitations will have mostly people we don't know and sad to have no desire to know. I'm not taking any cooked food, but we are taking eggs, butter and sweet potatoes and some walnuts.

We've had a couple people coming around looking for eggs, but we are cutting back on the amount we give away. The one person that has been getting the most has not brought any feed around in awhile, so I'm cutting back, my excuse is that they are not laying as much which is normal for this time of year. He's gotten as many as 8 dozen in a week from us but unless he contributes to the feed he won't be getting as much. He came around yesterday and I only had a 2 1/2 half dozen flat that was not full. At first glance he said is that all and then said that's fine. And if the chickens do cut back we'll still have enough for our normal 6 a day where we each eat 3. And besides this man had the nerve to tell me about his sex life and that disgusted me.

Happy Thanksgiving all, DH and I have a lot to be thankful for and we are.

Had a lovely meals with 3 out of 4 kids, 2 SILs, mom, sis, BIL, DH and ex's mom. Ex died in April, and I just couldn't let the kids come and her not.

Awesome meal with brined/baked and fried turkeys, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, homemade rolls, cranberry sauce, pumpkin and pecan pies. I'm stuffed and very happy.

I agree with Sapphire - if he's taking upwards of 8 dozen eggs - he's got a $$$$$ racket going - either selling to individuals a dozen at a time or a convenience store connection selling thru the backdoor ....

there's scabby people collecting food from the charity giveaway programs and selling it - a truckload of them hit all the programs - have a 100+ pounds of potatoes, apples and cereal >>> sell it all off for $$$$$

he just might be doing a charity gig or preserving them for himself >>> but I seriously doubt it ....

anyway - he's taking advantage of your generosity but not contributing >>> he could volunteer some hours doing chores

We had an absolute great Thanksgiving meal and fellowship, yesterday! I could not have asked for it to go any better. So much food! Everyone outdid themselves. We had roasted turkey and giblet gravy, chicken dressing with its own giblet gravy, mashed potatoes, homemade mac & cheese with bacon, fried green beans with bacon (for those who hate green bean casserole), green bean casserole, deviled eggs, caramelized carrots, homemade cranberry sauce, black olives, dinner rolls with butter, For dessert.....pumpkin pie, pecan pie, Dutch apple pie, and a pumpkin cheesecake, which DDIL made, with lots and lots of cool whip for topping the pies. Everyone, including DDIL loved my dressing. It was the first time they had ever seen or tasted chicken dressing. It was a win, so her mom asked me to make it again for our Christmas dinner.

I had a good time loving all over our grand-puppy baby, LOL! Gosh, she is hyper, but she's still a puppy. Having a whole house full of people was new to her, but she had a great time, too.

The rain even held off, until later. Started raining sometime during the night last night. It was a good thing, too. We got my car all loaded to go to DS's house. Cary went to crank the car, and NOTHING! Battery was dead. So, we had to unload everything and load it back up into his Jeep, drive out to our gate. Open and close it, then unload everything at DS's.

Today, we get to eat/snack on leftovers that we brought home with us, and I'm doing laundry. Sorta just going to rest up, today, and will go visit Mom, tomorrow. She had a great day for Thanksgiving, too. She and her 2 best friends all went out to eat. They always have a blast when they get together, LOL.

The thing is that no one else wanted any, we could not even give them away. This fellow was bringing feed but he hasn't in awhile. He's basically a decent fellow but is 83 and getting forgetful. He might remember better if he has to buy those eggs from the store.

I get eggs from a friend. I am her "nobody else wants them" dump spot. And I highly appreciate that. She is my "I have excess from the garden" dump spot. But over winter, with no garden coming in, I think I'm going to start giving her a bag of feed every few weeks in trade. Because I do know how much my budget would hurt if I had to buy those eggs at the store.

A lazy day today, not really cold but damp. DH wasn't even up to doing much today, which is unusual for him.

Since we didn't have thanksgiving left overs, we didn't want to bring any thing home. We had soup and DH had some rotosserie chicken later, I also had some cherry pie which DH had forgotten about. The I cut it off at 3:30, nothing since then except a little cold coffee and water. I'm not hungry. I really need to get some of this weight off.

It feels like sunday but tomorrow is saturday.

Watching old movies, can't seem to get interested in a book.

Some of the people that I spent thanksgiving with get it about the shot. I told them that the flu shot next year will have the mRna crap in it, they were shocked. I'm glad their eyes are opening. But I don't think they get it about having a really full pantry, they all have food but I wonder how long it would last.

Due to the holiday I have several days off from work so trying to make good use of them. So far gotten the raised beds cleaned out and well tilled. Did a robust turn on the compost pile, the local ACE was having a sale so went and picked up a variety of assorted hardware and a few tools to add to the shop. Did a major cleaning of the shop area and am much happier with it. I recently purchased an oxy/acetalyne cutting rig so went and got filled bottles of the gases so now that is a usable set up. Got the gutters all cleaned out since we're supposed to get rain tonight. Made a grocery run and tomorrow my goal is to update my inventory. Oh and ran both generators (with a load on of course!) so those are good to go for awhile. Drove over to OKC to top off my bulk kerosene supply. so overall a productive few days so far,

I finished the day off with making three frost cover bags. I'm about to get started on the fourth. That should be all I need for this year. The ones I bought last year disintegrated, even after being put away carefully. Even the zippers and drawstrings fell apart.

Another rain filled day, too wet for DH to do anything out side except feed the animals and gather the eggs. He got 13 today. We could have used some of this rain back in the summer, but no, we have to get it in cold weather. I'm sure the ground is happy to get it. The goats hate to get any moisture on them, and they are all filthy from rutting season, actually nasty.

We have doctors appointments on Tuesday, one DH is pre pre op for his ear surgery on December 5 and getting his INR checked. Mine is for physical therapy, finally. This morning I put my foot down in my flip flop and needles were in my right heal. My flip flops that I've been wearing for about a year have been worn down and no support. I changed to another pair and the needles disappeared in about an hour. Good thing I have a good supply of vionix flip flops, they have great arch supports.

I think DH is tired of soup, so I'll have to cook something different today, I'm still good with the soup.

Raining here again today, too. We've got several days forecasting rain off and on over the next 2 weeks. Nothing to do outside, anyway. It's too warm right now to have the wood heater going, so Cary isn't even bringing in firewood. It was 71 degrees, yesterday.

We finished off all of our Thanksgiving leftovers last night. Cary has one piece of pumpkin pie left for his dessert, tonight. I'm making a one skillet Mexican type dish for our supper, tonight. I got the recipe from Taste of Home a few years ago, and we really like it. I make it from scratch using what I have in storage. It goes really well with flour tortillas.

We aren't getting to go to Mom's like I had planned, today. My niece wanted to come pick her up and take her to her house for their Thanksgiving meal last night. Her DH was out of town on business Thanksgiving Day. She spent the night, and won't be back home, until tonight. We'll go one day this coming week, though.

When I got up yesterday morning, I knew for sure I was sick not just tired. I’m guessing it’s a cold. Luckily I’ve managed not to get all the other illnesses that’s ran through the family this past month and none of them have a cold and I haven’t been anywhere, so go figure. I feel some better today over yesterday and I hope that I continue to.

DH and I made plates of T. Day leftovers and reheated in the microwave for supper last night. Today I want to get them used up or frozen. I’m thinking of turkey pot pie using up the gravy and turkey and maybe some potato patties with the mashed potatoes. We still have several desserts hanging around, I meant to send the rest of the pumpkin pie home with youngest grandson and completely forgot. The 2 loaves of pumpkin bread were very popular and only a little of that left.

Sure. It's called Chili Mac.

1 cup uncooked elbow macaroni (Gluten free is fine)
1 pound ground beef
1 small green bell pepper, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2 cans (15oz each) chili with beans (You can use your own home canned chili)
1 can whole kernel corn, drained
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Cook macaroni as directed. Drain and set aside. In a large skillet, cook the beef, pepper, and onion until meat is done. Drain. Stir in chili and corn. Add cooked macaroni. Stir altogether and heat through until hot. Sprinkle with cheese.

I only use 1/2 can of corn. Seems a whole can is too much. I also add my own taco seasonings to the mix to give it an added Mexican type of flavor. This recipe makes a lot, so we get 2 meals off of it. A salad of choice goes well with it, along with warm tortillas.

hate to complain but I had a right carpal tunnel release done last Monday (11.14). the damnable cock up and bandages are driving me NUTZ . . . they come off this Tuesday morning and I can not wait for it. being on my right (preferred) side is bad enough from the standpoint of attendant necessary limitations but this stuff is aggravating the crap out of me.

Raggedyann says I'm a crotchety old man "without an off switch" when it comes to DOING SOMETHING so I'm going to have to be careful for another little bit as far as lifting etc - but at least I'll be able to shave again without the risk of slitting my own throat

Praying for all that are feeling under the weather.

Personally, I remember getting a cold a long time ago, back in the 70's when I drank a lot, I don't recommend it though. What I get are allergy related and its different than a cold. I don't know why I don't get colds, but I grateful for it. I have had bronchitis twice in the last 12 years, but a bad allergy attack can lead to that.

Sherree that sounds like something I make only its just mac n cheese and ground meat. Yours sounds so much more substantial, I'm going to give it a try. Only I'll eliminate the green pepper.

Raggedyman: B6 is wonderful for giving relief from carpel tunnel. I never had to have the surgery.

ETA; DH calls that goulosh, he's a yankee.

Since you use a lot of ground pork, here's another Taste of Home recipe that he might like.

Pork & Penne

1 1/2 cups of uncooked penne pasta
1 pound of ground pork
1/2 cup chopped inion
1 can stewed tomatoes (14 1/2 oz can)
1 can tomato sauce (8 oz)
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 medium zucchini, cut into 1/4 inch slices

Cook pasta as directed. Drain and set aside. In large skillet, cook pork and onions, until meat is done. Drain. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, and Italian seasoning. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and cook for 5 minutes to allow flavors to blend. Add pasta to skillet. Stir in zucchini. Cover, cook another 5 minutes, or until zucchini is tender.

I love my Taste of Home, "Simple Meals" cookbook! I make all kinds of skillet meals using it. All I ever add to the meal is a salad, and my choice of bread.

Tired and sore. But almost all the thermal mass bottles are in place. Roughly 6 dozen two liters filled with water. About 2 dozen left to go outside.
It seems so easy, every time. Until I start filling and moving them, which includes stairs.
But all are full. And only a few more to move out.
And all the frost covers on, with jars underneath, and leaves loaded around the sides. I'm still working on one, maybe two more, frost covers.
