I don't know anything about Mucinex, but I take Guafenesin and Benzonatate for cough. 600mg of the Guafenesin. I took this combination when I had bad covid last year and it controlled my cough. Its available without an Rx. Although I'm blessed to get it from the VA. I swear about this stuff, I have a tendancy of having a chronic cough because of allergies and this combination keeps it in check.
Mucinex IS guafanesin. But it’s great for clearing out congestion, just drink lots of water. Benzonatate works pretty good as well, but is prescription only. The muck is definitely going around, I know lots of people who are super sick, and a few babies who are in the hospital with RSV. I’m prone to getting bronchitis, so I take lysine and NAC to help with viruses and keeping my lungs clear.

DH is out in the goat pen behind the house cutting up limbs that have fallen for firewood. We already have a good supply, at least 2 years, probably 3. He finally quit using that crappy wet wood and has been bringing in some good wood. It burns so hot that DH said he's going to mix it.

I bought myself two new pairs of New Balance shoes earlier in the year and DH likes the cheap velcro fasten cheap shoes from walmart. Year before last I bought him two new pair of boots, he won't alternate and has only worn one pair. I didn't need any new shoes, I still have plenty and some almost never worn, but these were a good deal that I couldn't pass up. I've got a pair of New Balance that I use for every day, but I mostly wear flip flops even in the winter and push between the toes of my compression stockings. Anyway this pair is probably 14 years old and they are still in very good shape. I also have a hard foot to fit so I get them while I can.

Still trying to get the commodities from yesterday put away. I have potatoes from last month that I still need to do something with. I have illusions of canning them, sad. And now I have 12 pounds of sweet potatoes, large ones. I'm thing of eating one a day. They are very healthy and tasty drowned in butter.

I started last night not eating any thing after 4:00 pm in an effort to lose weight. I kept wanting something to eat, I was not hungry. I kept telling myself that it was important for me not to eat. I only had a cup of tea and water. Yay me.

Judy, if you get tired of eating them, my goats always loved sweet potatoes. Just cut them up really small so that they don't choke.

About a hundred years ago..not really but seems like it..an MD doc heard me coughing and hacking at work..I was about 21 and couldn't get the mucus up..he said I had bronchitis from hot outside and air conditioning...he was a really nice guy
He taught me that one cup of strong hot black tea with the juice of one whole lemon would chemically react with mucus and that it would just pass through my body..it worked..
DH and I have used this for years with any type of mucus..always figured non chemical solution was the best...it works
Just the tea and lemon....no sugar no milk..just the two items or it won't work also drink as hot as you can..
I think it was tastes terrible ...but I do it anyway ..and drink it as fast as I can

I love sweet potatoes. They keep well at room temp. I peel them, cut them into chunks and toss with 1 Tbsp melted butter, 1 Tbsp oil, and 2 Tbsp. maple syrup (the real stuff). Roast at 400* for about 40 min(?) until brown and soft. Delicious! Not too sweet, I don't like them sweet. You could put chunks of sausage in with them or apples or both. I am a vegetarian so I don't use sausage.

I chunk up my sweet potatoes and apples, toss them in melted butter, pour them in a baking dish, and sprinkle them with brown sugar and chopped pecans. Bake until soft and syrupy. I've had them at a friend's house who used pineapple chunks instead of apples, but I didn't like the flavor.

These sweet potatoes are all huge and hard. I tried to cut it in half but just could not do it. So I made slits in it all around and its in a pot boiling. I will be mashed and slathered with butter. I'm going to try one of the new brands of butter that I bought.

I've already boiled my chicken, let it cool, and in the fridge with the broth this morning to use in the dressing, tomorrow afternoon. I have to space all this cooking out, or I will get overwhelmed.

When Cary got home from going to the tree dumping site this morning, he had a whole trailer load of firewood he went ahead and cut. Good solid oak, too. He will have to split most of it, before stacking.

Ham and Swiss on Jewish rye, tonight, with homemade French fries. We'll probably be eating a lot of sandwiches over the next few days, LOL. I boiled extra chicken for chicken salad sandwiches, instead of using my store bought canned chicken from the pantry.

I have finished my Christmas shopping except for two gift cards, have made an extra run to Sams, and have been trying to find extra space in the house to store things. My inner voice keeps telling me "blankets", which is weird as I have quite a few and live in Florida, but I bought 3 more of the sherpa blankets from Sams and 2 of the throw blankets from Kohls that were on sale (and I had Kohl bucks and 15% off-cost me $9 for two of them).

Sorry I have been missing for several days. I’m another one who is sick with whatever is going around. Saturday and Sunday were the toughest. Started with a headache then it moving to my chest Sunday. I’m taking guaifenesin every six hours. It’s some I had ordered precovid, and that is helping greatly with an occasional ibuprofen tablet. Meds are holding it “at bay”. I’ve been sleeping a lot more and am letting my body decide how much is enough (it has been 9-10 hours the past several days). So far, thankfully, I’m not worsening. I believe it is the vitamins I take as well.
I know flu is rampant here. I’m trying.

I will try to stay current on this thread. I’ve missed hearing about all you are doing. It’s my fav thread.

Praying for quick recovery, briches!

Hubby and I seem to have something trying to take hold... sore throat, nasty nerve inflammation in our spines (it seems every virus hits us that way) We took ivermectin today, and both felt better within a few hours. Hubby went hunting with two of our sons and a couple men they grew up with (including one who is Asst Secretary of Defense for the Space Force) so probably brought new germs back. They had a lot of fun... it was worth it!

I've got 15# pounds of dressing made, sitting in the root cellar ready to bake Thanksgiving morning. Tomorrow is pies... three each of apple and pumpkin. And crescent rolls... I make them late in the afternoon, let them rise slowly overnight in the root cellar, mwnd then bake in the morning so they are fresh.

I'll admit... I'm just as happy we no longer have room for the whole crowd here! I did all the cooking and baking for the past 30 years... just making part of the meal and travelling to DD's house (instead of having to do a massive house cleaning as well) suits me fine!

Everyone is getting sick. My MIL sounds awful, and I’ve been getting worse throughout the day, but I think mine is more from being at a waterpark for several days, then camping this weekend during our cold snap.

My son decided I needed to test out the new brakes today with a run to his doc's office to check for a kidney infection. No kidney infection. And he was back to behaving normal as soon as we left. Not sure what was up with that. But he's now happy and laughing and being himself.

I'm trying to catch up the time that I lost on that run and make at least my daily goal. And I'm about to go make a cup of nice creamy chai to relax some.

I’ve been in the kitchen a good part of the day but the desserts are all taken care of for Thursday. 3 yr old granddaughter wanted to help so things took a little longer. Italian cream cake, 2 loaves of pumpkin bread and 1 pumpkin pie. DH baked a pecan pie as I was wiped out.

SB~ I’ve been doing a few things each day lately too, the only way I can get things done anymore.

Son-I-L is not feeling the best and neither am I. I’m really hoping we’re just tired out and not coming down with something.

My boiled sweet potato was delish, lots of butter. And the meat and vegetable soup was also delish. We will eat on it for days. And if I can't find my tuna noodle recipe we'll be eating it for Thanksgiving, but I haven't looked for it yet, LOL. DH and I are just fine as long as we are together.

We were invited to a friends for Thanksgiving but I told her thanks, but not thanks. We will be fine just the two of us and we won't get exposed to what ever is going around. One of our church members has been diagnosed with covid and he's had all the shots and boosters. He wasn't at church on Sunday, thank goodness.

I'm so glad that I'm not hosting this year's Thanksgiving meal. DDIL is hosting it, upon my request. House needs cleaning, bad, but I'm all out of energy, today. I'm glad some of the food items for tomorrow are already made and in the freezer. I'm saving all my energy for this afternoon when I have to make the chicken dressing and gravy and the deviled eggs. I'll need to set everything else out to thaw...the pies, cool whip, the rolls will come out in the morning to bake, once we get to DDIL's house. Want those hot with butter.

I hope we don't catch anything, tomorrow. DDIL goes extremely overboard with everything she puts in or on her body (all organic, all natural, even toothpaste, no MSG, no gluten, no carbs, no sugar, nothing in cans/frozen from the grocery store, etc.), but she catches everything that goes around. She's just now getting over a bad sinus infection and has to go to her PCP the 29th to be fitted for a heart monitor to find out what's up with her heart. She's had Covid, twice, but it wasn't too bad. Her sister is a city cop, and she's in contact with everything. All non vaxxed.

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Just me and the critters for holidays here.....and that is OK by me!!! I am quite a hermit and actually enjoy being alone most of the time.

ALL of my enjoyable hobbies are loner activities.......drawing & painting, reading, gardening, canning and preserving foods, I find myself pretty good company.

Thanksgiving dinner......got chicken quarters thawing.....best part of the chicken, I think. Some Aldi's stuffing, home made biscuits, and some yams from the commodity box. That is MORE THAN ENOUGH!! I probably will eat on that for a WEEK!! Might have some garden grown green beans too, maybe, but that is an AWFULLY LOT of food!!

My dogs are bringing home all kinds of deer parts out of the woods!!! Racks of ribs, heads, hides, hams off the back legs......hunters here are from St. Louis mostly......VERY VERY VERY WASTEFUL!! It makes me ANGRY!!! Don't mind hunting, and I LOVE venison, but there is just no excuse for the massive WASTE!! I've seen some just cut off the head and take the back strap and dump the rest!!

GO BACK TO THE DAMN CITY SKIN SACS!!! And DON'T drive down my country road like it's the INTERSTATE!!!

Sure wish they had an open season on TOURISTS!! (RANT over)

Guess after Thanksgiving I will start singing CHRISTmas carols to my animals!! They gather all around me and stare at me. I think they all KNOW who GOD is........that, or they think my singing is because I am in terrible pain!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL OF MY TB2k FAMILY!! PRAYERS FOR EACH of you that you remember how VERY BLESSED we STILL ARE!!!

I have to take up for your DDIL, what she is doing is not making her sick. She'd probably be in worse shape if she didn't avoid many things. She probably has a lousy immune system.

The point I was trying to make is that even though she is extremely overboard with what she eats and puts on her body, she still gets sick with everything going around. Not that what she is doing makes her sick. :) Yeah, it's probably a poor immune system.

I understood your point but I was disagreeing with you. What she is doing is healthy and it may be extreme to many people but its a good way to eat. I'll pray for her that she gets her immune system in better shape. What she ate when she was growing up probably had an adverse affect on her. Frankly I'm horrified with what people eat here on the forum but I try really hard not to critisize. I'm a firm believer in we are what we eat, but it takes time to cure what you ate when you were growing up.

No offense intended.

All I'm going to say, is extreme is extreme. Even though you are horrified by what we all eat, I know that you're not as extreme as she is. Nobody is. That's why I'm refusing to cook all the food this time. No one wants to try and cook for her. Last year, she brought her very own food just for herself, so she wouldn't have to eat mine, and I tried to go by her guidelines, and did a pretty darn good job. She just wouldn't trust it, though.

It is really hurtful to go out of your way and work so hard to make food for someone and they don’t appreciate it, I think it would be even worse to do it and the person(s) not even try it.

I don't think that's a reflection on you. My son has a restricted diet. And I have had people decide to just ignore parts of it, because it was inconvenient, but then try to tell me they didn't. Even when I saw them doing it. Have that happen enough and you get a bit cautious, even with well meaning folks.

Yeah. That's why I'm making chicken dressing with its own kind of giblet gravy just for Cary, myself, and DS, because we love our traditional meal, too, not just plain roasted turkey. Cary and I don't like turkey. Deviled eggs she can eat, so I'm making those. We like dinner rolls with our meal, so I'm making those, and the desserts she will not touch. She and her mother and sister are making all the rest to their liking.

A lot of it has to do with different cultures, besides just trying to be healthy.

I can understand folks having restricted diets, but she doesn't. She is this way, because she wants to be.

No one get me wrong here. I do absolutely love this girl. Her antics, though, when it comes to food makes me a little crazy.

Sherree I'm sure that your food tastes wonderful. I'm glad you love your DDIL, it will all be fine, you are a good person and I love you too. We just have different ideas about food.

This is good for a laugh, when I moved to the woods I was shocked that people still ate white bread. Of course most people would not like the Ezekiel bread that I prefer, it is an acquired taste

I've never had Ezekiel bread, but I have heard about it. I'd love to try some.

Just so you, Judy, and everyone will know why I say some of this confusion about food is cultural. She is half Japanese, and was raised in a Japanese household in the most northern part of Montana. When they moved down here, everything, even our food, was different than what they've always eaten. Her whole family, mother and sister, have had a hard time adjusting to our way of life, culture, temps, and food. Even the way we talk is foreign to them, LOL. They are all city folks, too. I'm sure I would be the same way if we moved North, being used to our own Southern culture, food, and way of life.

That can definitely make a difference. Many years ago we had some guys come to a fellowship meal at church, they were going to bible college and had come along with the visiting preacher. Someone had made and brought meatloaf to the meal. My husband fixed his plate, sat down next to me and said “Those guys don’t even know what meatloaf is“ after hearing someone trying to explain to them what it was. LOL, I told him they were from Russia and probably really didn’t know what it was! They did seem to enjoy the veggie platter I made but they sure didn’t want to try the meatloaf and I can find no fault with that!

The dressing is made and ready to be baked tomorrow. Deviled eggs, turnip greens (that Son-I-L requested) are ready as well. Tonight I’ll put the smoked picnic in to cook low and slow overnight and get the turkey ready for DH to pop in the oven in the morning. I’ll still have some things to do tomorrow but the majority is taken care of and our DD’s will be doing some things as well. I’m tired!

I am a vegetarian and I can't tell you how many times I have been told "it's only a little chicken" or "it's just chicken broth" or "I picked the meat out for you." I can't trust that it is safe for me to eat unless I know how the person cooks. Once at a banquet I was told "we ordered the vegetable soup just for you" it was vegetable Beef.
