Prep Genrl How are you storing Ramen?

I have some and they are still in the box up on a shelf, but I've ordered more and would like to know how is the best way to store them for future (gag) use.

Mine never lasted that long before going rancid and this is in AC, low humidity conditions. I only buy them ever so often these days and mostly for my youngest son who goes through a lot of carbs.

Anything like ramen or pasta that comes in a cellophane bag just gets the bag (or package) slit open so the vacuum packer can pull a vacuum when bag and all get put in mylar.

I never have opened any to see how they were doing but imagine they're fine - as fine as ramen noodles or pasta can be, anyway.

you don't include factory & retail packaging into the mylar - it's not only contaminated but that kind of printed cellophane poly out gasses chemicals >>> just dump the ramen into the mylar - I'd crunch it smaller to make it fit better - who cares what the noodles look like in a bowl .....

Thanks; I sure didn't know that. I agree everything could just be crunched up.

Cary eats Ramen for his lunch almost every day. I buy it by the case at Sam's, but only what he can eat up in a month or so. It will go bad, not to mention the bugs. We don't buy food that we don't like and will never or almost never eat. Personally, I would spend my money on food items that we like to eat that doesn't give us that "gag" factor already. If I were to store Ramen long term it would be kept in my freezer.

I just leave it on the shelf. Been my experience that it only lasts a year or so before getting funky. Dried pasta is a better long term item. I’ve used angel hair pasta as a substitute in “asian” style dishes.

I suggest instead the cheap rice noodles that you can find in the asian aisle. I go every fe months to Nam Hai in Tulsa to stock up on noodles, Memmi, and sometimes another bag of rice. I keep the noodles in a storage tote until they get used, newest on bottom. There are no oils in them to go rancid, so they pretty much keep as long as white rice, since that is the only ingredient.
