Has No Life - Lives on TB
Folks,
Earlier this week we had an assignment to inspect a large number of Teslas at a local dealer. Well, mixed in between the 15 or so Teslas were two production models of the new Lucid Air. It's a direct competitor to the top of the line Tesla, whatever the model is (the X I believe? Their model numbers all run together with me. I collectively call them all junk
Here's some photographs of these vehicles. I say I'd buy one, because it looks to have more room than the big Tesla, and honestly the car was put together better than current Rolls Royces (I'd say they're as well put together as a Maybach, because Mercedes actually hand builds those).
Paint was rock solid consistent throughout the vehicle, couldn't see a single flaw or evidence of filler anywhere on the vehicles. Beautifully done paint. Panel seams were exact on every panel on the car. (There were 5 of us there; 3 of them are newer inspectors that I mentor). The suspension parts looked machined rather than cast, and the interior looked perfect from what we could see. Didn't have the keys so couldn't look inside.
For fun, I asked the "mentor-ees" to compare the Lucid to the Tesla Model 3 it was sitting beside. Told them to look at the right door on the Lucid and the left door on the Tesla. Well, the Tesla didn't do to well. My guys spotted a paint run on the Tesla's door, when they miked the paint it varied from 4.0 mils to 6.1 mils front to back of the door. The Lucid was a rock solid 5-5.5 mils all over it. The panel gaps on the Tesla also failed-the driver's door was hung incorrectly and the panel gap between the door and the fender reduced in size the further down you went on the door. The Lucid on the other hand was literally the same on every door-precision hanging of the doors. It was a great education and shows just what an overpriced ripoff the Tesla vehicles are. Cadillac prices, Subaru build quality.
Here's some pics,
Note how the windshield curves up into the roof. Very nicely done and good thick glass too. They're using the glass as a stiffener for the upper unibody.
