Premium is $3.99 in our area now. Found that out tonight.
And your area is? You're providing me with the price of gas
where? Let me help. I'm in Austin and Valero is getting $2.89 for regular.
Now the reader has some context from which to draw a conclusion. He might say to himself, "Hmmmm...Roadgeek is getting a real deal in Central Texas..." or he might think "...wow, that's insanely high!" But at least he'd have some point of reference.
If someone says to me that the price of "A" is $2.79, but doesn't tell me where they are, t
hen it didn't happen. That product
doesn't exist anywhere at that price, simply because I'm not told where the price was seen or paid. Why should I believe the poster without all the pertinent information?
Now some are probably thinking right about now that "Roadgeek is such a jerk....why, greysage and john deere girl have been posting here forever! Everyone already knows where they are!..." Except Roadgeek, who's been posting here for less than a year, and has no idea where greysage and john deere girl live.
Now, of course, come the inevitable calls...."He's rude. He was too direct. He wasn't diplomatic. He hurts peoples feelings when he says these things. Who does he think he is? He should have been more polite." Perhaps. But I have in the past suggested that posters let the rest of us know their location, so others have some basis of comparison, and I did so very politely. So what's left but snark?
Now, while others are working up a huff, I'm gonna go watch "Mannix".
