CHAT Took some kratom and I feel fantastic!

I'm keeping it in mind as an alternative for later, if needed. I like hearing that while it reduces the pain, it doesn't keep your body from reminding you that those body parts are still "tender". One of my biggest problems with pain killers is that you can do more damage because you can't feel it.

I know some well heeled folks with elaborate ELE shelters. They have an incredible supply of Kratom in all strains.

Kratom does not make you high or feel weird, actually it makes you feel motivated and/or euphoric. That it why it is so good for those with depression. They have strains that you take at night for pain that will also help you sleep.

Dennis, glad you are happy. Happiness is good for your health. I enjoy Kratom a few times a month when I am feeling crummy. It energizes me and calms me down at the same time. The first time I took it, I was amazed that it is legal without a script. It was more potent, more effective and made me feel way better than Vicodin. :)

My older cousin, age 76 began Kratom four years ago after he got a driver under the influence for alcohol. His sobriety counselor suggested he use it to stop drinking booze. He has been sober now for four years, he also stopped smoking tobacco at the same time. He said he is now able to go to sleep easily and stays asleep all night, wakes well rested and his Vietnam era aches and pain are gone. His VA doctor wanted to know what changes he made to be off the slew of RX medicine he had been on fir pain and high blood pressure. He fibbed and just said diet, AA and losing weight. He was warned that the VA discouraged use of Kratom. He has bought some Kratom trees to plant fir future access.

Have you tried Thyme Tea or Thyme essential oil for pain relief? All the research says it's a COX-2 inhibitor and works as well or better than OTC pain relievers without side effects.

My hubby takes Super Green daily, for chronic headaches and trigeminal neuralgia. It’s pricey and yeah, kind of addictive. But not any more than someone who smokes and has nicotine withdrawal. He thanks God for it, because it really does work to keep the pain at bay. I remember the days before he discovered it. Poor guy suffered so much.

I just looked that up. The answer is no, not in the standard blood or UA screens. However, there are tests that will detect it, but those tests are only performed if it’s suspected that the person is using it and “they” want to be sure.

I think at pain centers who test people monthly, it will Show up…I think one of our other members posted that a couple of years ago.

I’ve used many suppliers, some good some not, some outrageously priced, some reasonable.

These are the top suppliers I use. I buy in bulk as I take it 3-4 time per day @ 3 grams per dose.

Sources for trees/plants?

It sounds like most of you are using it on a daily basis, for chronic pain. Can it also be used as needed, for a wrenched back, say, that isn't a problem all the time? I'll be honest, the though of dependence worries me.
Also curious to hear from anyone who is using it to treat depression.

How can I find info to know what color /type I need for pain relief from miserable sciatica and resulting sleeplessness? I've looked at the mentioned websites but am overwhelmed with choices.

I have sciatica. I started green maeng da for daytime, and red maeng da for nighttime. This was at the direct recommendation of the sales rep. Face-to-face transactions are a must IMO for things like this. They helped with type and dosage recommendations.

The red allegedly helps one sleep, so isn’t for daytime.

The little bit I've read indicates it's highly addictive. Those who take or sell it what's your take on that?

The red I took last night really didn’t help me. I had to take Vicodin at about 1:30 am. I’ll try the green tonight. This morning, I mixed the green in with a 50/50 mixture of orange juice and grape juice. The stuff made it taste like grapefruit juice. I kinda laid back on the couch and closed my eyes. In a modest period of time, I felt it kick in. It was like a gentle wave of “feel good.” That’s the best I can do by way of description.

Looking for first hand experience with any addiction issues. Everything is risk vs benefit. Dennis, you have only taken a few doses. Sounds like it's wonderful for pain, and maybe even depression. This seems opioid like and addiction is a terrible thing. Of course, so is chronic pain. Basically, is the addiction aspect over hyped?

I got BAD withdrawals from tramadol of all things! And let me tell you, that was VERY unpleasant. Only took two @ bed time, and only every other night. If I went a second night without, I started feeling jittery. Third night without and I was having hot flashes and thrashing around in bed all night unable to sleep. Then came tophe body aches. I haven’t been taking this stuff long enough to stop taking it - lol.

First, it will cause *dependence * in 100% of people who take it regularly for weeks or longer. <shrug> So does caffiene... "Addiction" is something else entirely, and how likely that is depends on your genetics and personality.

The difference? Dennis' experience with Tramadol is the classic example of dependence. He wasn't craving the drug, but he was experiencing nasty withdrawal symptoms. Non addicted people, when that happens, sort of shrug, say, "yeah , I feel like crap, but it won't last more than a day or two" and go on with their lives. Addicts do everything in their power to get another supply so they can get out of withdrawal.

If you are the type of person who can't keep "leftover" dental pain meds in the house, because you end up taking them by preference over milder painkillers, you might not want to get into kratom. But otherwise, it's a safe, useful herb when used with common sense.

I have ongoing back problems, as well.
So far, I've been able to avoid daily meds, but I'm continuing to research what I can take
if things get worse.

So far, I've found that getting active again has been the biggest help. This summer, I was riding my
bike and kayaking. If you had seen me two years ago, you would know what major improvement this is! I could barely get up and down stairs.

But it didn't happen overnight, and our society just doesn't value exercise for the elderly like it could.

Oh, and Dennis... unless you've had a multi-week break from all opiods (Tramadol and Vicodin included) you *already* have at least a partial dependence. Your reaction to the Kratom may well have been in part relieving withdrawal. It is what it is, but be aware of the possibility...

They seem to be hardy little plants. Had a neighbor move away last Fall and he left 6 plants in pots. 3 green Malaysian and 3 red something or others (can’t read the tag he left on it). I placed them in the back corner of my lot against a fence. Am in West Houston. They all were wiped by the freeze we had last February. Later in the spring they all came back from the roots and are now about 6 feet high and loaded with leaves. They seem to be thriving. Guess I need to read up on them and try to harvest and test.
Edit: red ones are called “red rifat”. Barely legible on back of the metal tag.

Where did you get them? I'm debating a plant or two for possible future needs.

They are purely tropical...

Also, the seeds lose viability within weeks of dropping...

I read that. So really the only practical is buying plants. And keeping them as indoor/outdoor plants. But I apparently my search fu is fried, because I can't find plants from sources I'd trust.

Our society looks to doctors as gods! I came across a book about 10 years ago called "Younger Next Year for Women". That book inspires me to keep at it with exercise. It is written by a doctor and his patient and is all about keeping active so you don't have to depend on drugs in your golden years!
