ALERT Costs Are Going Up and UP and UP

Went into the little town 17 miles away and stopped by the propane distributor. Bought propane at $1.55 per gallon a couple of weeks ago. Propane yesterday was $2.05 per gallon which is up 50 cents a gallon and the staff stated that the price of propane will be going up and up as each new load comes in.

Gasoline has risen 20 to 30 cents a gallon and expected to go up more. Kiss fuel cost under $2 by probably forever.

Grocery prices are also increasing.

The dems are definitely influencing pricing across the board and the little guys will be feeling the price increases the most.

Get what you and yours need while you still can afford to.

Think about all the dumb little stuff that you can store forever. Dental floss, toothpaste, hand tools, nails and screws, booze, tarps, shoes, shoelaces, fencing, sewing supplies, containers, and a thousand other things.

Eventually it’ll all be like 9mm ammo. Why didn’t I buy more!?!

It's 2.49 right now where we get propane, and I think they are the cheapest around. We've got three camper size thanks to get filled..DH rigged up a burner kind of thing to get the wood stove started, so with he cold weather he's used that much in about 6 weeks. He pays to fill the smaller tanks and I pay to get the big tank filled.

Our local propane dealer said it would likely double if not more in a year, currently $1.39. One short term remedy is to get an extra tank. We are currently looking for a 500 or 1000 gal tank as it could pay for itself. A bigger reason for keeping so much on hand is if the shit really hits the fan and the terrorists or powers that be start to play with the grid. In such case the extra would be needed to power the house genset to keep the deep freezes going.

Propane addiction is going to kill so many next winter when the green regime has had its way for nearly a year. 3, 4 , 5 dollar propane, sure, why not, it's for the children and the polar bears. Better learn to break that addiction and soon.

Along those lines, I was in a Harbor Freight store the other day. I picked up a few things
that were not on sale. The cashier asked if I get their coupons by email. I replied that
Harbor Freight stopped sending out coupons and no longer does that.
Cashier said that I was wrong and that HF still sends out the coupons.

(This cashier was an outstanding upbeat person!)

The store manager came over and said, yes, the coupon program has ended and they now
do the instant savings program/deals. Manager also said that they discontinued the Semi-truck load sale.
He said they are trying to cut back on the number of people coming into the store because of Covid???

I found all of this to be odd and wondered what was really going on here????

Yes, I know HF has lots of junk, but they also have useful items. A person has to pick and those.

Word is still NOT GOOD with regard to availability of pressure canners. Current notice on All-American Canners site:

"Attention: Due to remarkably high demand orders for All American Pressure Canners (910, 915, 921, 925, 930 & 941) will not ship until September, 2021. (This is only an estimate, manufacturing delays may cause the shipping date to be longer than anticipated.)

No crap from me regarding HF. It's my go-to for items I won't use a lot but need to finish a project, like a hammer drill. It paid for itself three times over before it died. That was cheaper than renting one or paying someone who had one to come in.

What I won't buy there: circular and jig saws, chain saws, sanders, regular drills and hand tools that need to last. I've blown out several jig saws from them right in the middle of projects. Those are worth paying the bucks for because I use them all the time.

Menard's used to be my go-to for cheap crap, but I've been avoiding them and their fake sales lately. I will go and get potatoes and onions when they come in. They are one of the few stores in the area that carry Superior potatoes and red onion sets.

I can relate to what you write.

I would also add, when a power tool goes bad/stops working, pull on disposable gloves and take the tool apart.
Line up the parts along with their screws. Take pictures of the process. While taking the tool apart, you may find
the defective part, which can be ordered online. If nothing else, you had fun taking something apart and seeing
how it works. There really is nothing to lose.

Lots of the cheap power tools may have bushings instead of ball bearings. Both are cheap and would require
pullers to remove.

My point is, you were going to throw (recycle) it anyway, why not build/add to your skill set?
(Of course, maybe you already do this)

It depends, Milkweed Host. I'm over 60 with limited energy. I'm doing a lot of the remodeling on my new-to-me house by myself. My priority right now is finishing the closets and floors (engineered flooring). I'm not that good at mechanics. If my jamb saw died, I'd go get a new one rather than take it apart. There's no old-fashioned hardwares nearby where I can get parts: those would have to be ordered. I've got Menard's, Lowe's, and HD, not exactly the best but a lot better than nothing.

Now, if my expensive circular saw died, I'd probably set it aside and let one of the guys look at it. But, again, I need to keep going, and stores still have equipment. Does that make sense?

I do a lot of my own work because I hate hiring druggies and half-wits. I may be slow, but I can measure, and I take the time to do things right. Plus I'm NOT doing high ladder work or anything really dangerous.

Check the used market for canners. Unless its totally ancient say 1930 model you can likely get parts for it. I have two Presto canners that I purchased at estate auctions for $6 and $10. That was maybe 20 years ago so today's prices will be higher but still likely less than new. If the canner body and lid are solid you can replace seal, gauge and handles. Even if the body and lid look terrible it doesn't matter as long as they are solid. If you don't want to use a gauge it can be replaced with the weight that jiggles. Remember a canner is just a big vessel if you do not have or cannot acquire jars and lids.

Walmart does have canners. You just have to get there early in the am and doing it daily until it shows. Ours is getting 1 or 2 per week and they are gone by lunch.

I've been buying power tools at Big sky tool | New and Reconditioned Power Tools, Air tools, Cordless and More . They sell reconditioned Hitachi. You can buy different grades from A to C, C usually coming without the carrying case and maybe scuffed up a bit. I've had really good luck with them so far. I've picked up a compact air compressor, miter saw, circular saw, and several pneumatic nail guns.

Get on their mailing list, they run some good sales too.
