PREP What Are Your Oddest Preps And Why Do You Have Them?

day late

money? whats that?
Each of us preps for our own situation. I recently spoke about having a go-kart. It's EMP proof, will go just about anywhere, including off road, and being as small as it is, it's a difficult target. Another item is a magnifying glass. Useful for starting fires, never runs out of fuel and if it gets wet you just wipe it off. But as I said we all prep for our own AO. So how about it? What are some of your preps that just seem to be a little out of place, but practical at the same time.

pallet of water softener salt.

12,000 BB's.

HUNDREDS of needles.

thousands of hooks.

A couple pounds of Cayenne. Pounds of Curry. Pounds of dried Garlic.

about 10 pair of cheap(cost, not quality) garage sale and thrift store binoculars. half a dozen rifle/telescopes that no longer zero..

Containers. I can't make plastic, I can't make glass, but food storage, transport, and barter will be a huge fact if it gets BAD BAD.

Screen mesh mosquito hoods, lots of them, in every nook and cranny of my packs, truck, and dresser drawers even........

Had an experience camping in the Adirondacks long ago with black flies and that was about as close to loosing it as i ever want to get, huge swarms of thousands biting and getting in your nose and mouth and eyes and ears and impossible to escape from. Never again. P.s. I live in Central Florida swamp 2 miles down a dirt road. I feel safe.

To me, it's all useful and not strange.

Some may not appreciate the value of attack possums tho.

Everybody has a few...don't they?

This too shall pass.
A big box of one-use catheters -- and I need to get more. Not so strange, though, because my daughter now needs to be cathed at least four times a day. Medical necessity. She has hidden spina bifida, which we didn't know about until earlier this year, and it causes a condition called neurogenic bladder, which means her bladder doesn't empty like it should and overfills -- the back pressure will eventually cause kidney damage. So we relieve the pressure several times a day. She's mentally handicapped, including autism; otherwise we would probably have known she had issues a long time ago. Anyway, at the rate we go through them, I think we have about three months worth of catheters on hand. I'm wondering if I should save the used ones and figure out some way to sterilize them for re-use.

I have say some ammo I have ( 20+ years old) and reloading supplies and next jars of honey and 3 pounds cans of coffee in that order with age.
Some of the honey has crystalized but that's not a problem the jars just needs to be warmed up in hot water long enough to make it liquid again and makes good candy when crystalized.

I'll share this post with OC his first wife was a quad and he did reuse her catheters for her, they have to be sterilized and I'm not sure how he did that.

Scissors...I’ve got a box with at least two dozen different size pairs... not real sure why, but I’ll pick up a pair when they are on clearance... I guess I get them because I can’t make them but they enable me to make other things I do need and use ??

One can never have too many pairs of scissors, or different types of scissors, or pliers, hammers, etc.

Candy’s dandy, but a back rub is quicker.
About 8 gallons of nontoxic RV water system antifreeze. To be used in sink and tub drains and toilet bowls etc if unable to keep facilities from freezing during winter (EMP event maybe?).

A lot less expensive than replacing broken pipes and toilets!

Guitar strings. Go deep if you use them.

About a billion AA batteries. I just did the fall change-out this afternoon. Between the game cams and the driveway alarms, used up 40, then the batteries in my mouse just died, so add two more. You can never have enough.

Oh...and a generous collection of single malt.

Feed Bags. I save them all. Chicken, dog, cow, it don't matter. Now days they all come in water proof woven plastic. Just used two of them cut open to help keep some lumber dry from the coming storm. They would make excellent sand bag material. Don't put to much dirt in them but stack them high as needed. Block doorways is another use. Also make for water proof storage of clothes and other such material if you have to bug out. Just a strange item to have collected over the years but I constantly find uses for them.

Feed sacks can come in handy. I've used them for emergency insulation and window pane replacement in the barn when a window pane blew out in a winter storm.

An extra 2002 Yukon ecm. I've had it preflashed to delete any need for bcm inputs for starting. It is in a dry cool place shielded. If a carrington event happens and I survive put in a good battery swap the smoked ecm in hit the key and I'm driving again

Please do tell about guitar strings. I have some laying around, especially the really thin Super Slinkies for electric guitar. You wouldn't dare snare a leftist by the throat, would you?

They'd make good rabbit snares...especially the ball end ones with the loop.
I thought it was piano wire for the ...errr...other thing...?
