My wife and I went to Walmart today on a vitamin run and picked some vitamin D and sambucol gummies. Good thing we went because Vitamin C was gone and all others very low.
I also went ahead and picked up a couple thermometers because ours were pretty old. We got the last two left.

I find it absolutely bizarre that Walmart’s auto centers are all closed. Took my car in to get a new battery and a couple of new tires, and it’s all shut down. All of the locations. Makes no sense.

Same with the two WM closest to me. Why close the auto center? Employees back there usually work well over 6' apart, and they can easily stay 6' from the customer. Even the garden centers are closed... You can purchase stuff inside the store, but bulk items stored outside are no sale. I didn't think there were idiots in Arkansas... or perhaps their board is in another state....

Came here to say, if you need/want to replenish your paper stocks (TP and paper towels) start looking. I went to Kroger this afternoon for lettuce & 'maters (wife's out of town, so I eat a lot of sandwiches) and as has been our habit since this CV stuff started, I went to pick up a pack of TP and towels. Surprise! Since the covid scare, Kroger over ordered TP from Kleenex. It's good stuff, and for the last month, it's been marked down to $1 a four pack. Well, that same 4-pack is now $4.99, Krogers brand was $6.99 for 6-pack. There were several brands of paper towels, a decent supply, but they were all select-a-size. I hate those, so I didn't buy any.

There's a Walmart on the way home, so I stopped there. There shelves were very slack, but they did have some Brawny 6-packs, singles, so I bought the two limit.

Good luck, shoppers.

We have 4 walmart in the area. 3 no longer install tires or batteries do to "insurance/lawsuit liability". The 4th store is more rural and still does tires

After hearing that cotton is in short supply, I went to Walmart for cheesecloth, which I use for canning and making jam. None in the canning section, but they had several packages in stock over in the crafts section, food grade. The dog chewies I usually get had one pack in stock- 100 sticks, but the price has gone from $18 to $24. I bought the pack, but that is definitely inflating.
Went to Safeway to shop the end of week and end of month specials, and they had their organic brand of pasta $1.25 a #. Good deal, because organic is not sprayed with roundup. Bought several, and have been assiduous to watch for specials and stock up when they are available. (this is also a form of sport ;) ).

I support the local tire store. They may have to order everything, but they'll get it for you. Farmers drive their tractors there. If you've ever had to change a tractor tire, you'd understand. 47 versions of hell...

So I know that food availability and pricing is local

So As a heads up - For the Atlanta Ga area folks Kroger has boneless pork loins on sale this week for 99cents a pound

Enjoy,

We were at Lowes early yesterday to pick up a new lawnmower and their garden center was doing a booming business. This is the second one that we have to take back. The first one was from Home Depot. I am confused as to why these expensive mowers arnt working.

It was a corp decision. No one is happy. The wife works in one and is pissed as she has been getting door duty for the last 8 weeks and is showing signs of heat stroke. She gave an ultimatum to put her inside or she would go on medical leave.

My brother had the same problem with a Honda mower from HD recently.

Maybe you got my lawnmower!! Ordered one online to be delivered from lowes. They kept finding excuses to not deliver and then sold it to someone else. I shouldn't have to wait a month to be told it's 3 more weeks till I can mow my lawn. No apology given. Really badly run company .

Mid-Atlantic WM this am. Big sign on door stating that associates and customers must wear masks. Evidently didn't apply to vendors. Not a single one of them was wearing one. Probably 25% of the folks in the store didn't have one either. Seriously ticks me off as it is hard for me to breath anyway, a mask just makes it worse.
Signs back up limiting TP and PT. They were low on TP, but did have some. Not a single can of Spam in the store. Walked around the HBA 3 times and never could find any saline or contact lens supplies. No rubbing alcohol either. Dishwashing liquid very sparse. I bought all the distilled water they had, 8 gallons. They only had 6 bottles of mineral oil and I bought them. The register wasn't going to let me have more than 1 bottle of mouthwash but I figured out how to override it by myself. Maybe I should have gotten more than 1 pack of TP but that might have been too obvious.
I read the labels on the trash bags 3 times and still wound up getting scented ones. Which stink up the pantry and give me asthma. I wish they would stop changing labels every time I go to the store.
The people checking out on one side of me were just buying cases of bottled water and gatoraid.
The lady on the other side had a fit at the cashier because the register wouldn't let her have 2 containers of Lysol wipes.
I really dread going to the store anymore but at least I got home with it and got it put away.

Please don’t take this the wrong way. What you’re doing IS hoarding. As we’ve discussed for years, PREPPING is when we buy in times of high availability. HOARDING is buying too many when supplies are scarce. What you did directly contributed to someone else not getting any.

I know it doesn’t really mean anything, but I just can’t get behind people who do that.

Went to the local Safeway in North Denver this morning - TP aisle was pretty strange - lots of no name brand, some cottonelle, some Angel Soft, but not much of each. Found the ones I wanted (on the top shelf of course) and since there were no limits posted bought 2. Paper Towel about wiped out, but I have plenty so didn't get any.

Frozen vegs pretty non-existent, same for frozen French fries/frozen potatoes (I needed fries for this weekend) but I did find some that are seasoned. Meat was strange - they had none of the spare ribs that were in the add for 1.97 lb, only the Smithfield ones for 4.99 lb. Needless to say I passed. Did find a package of chuck eye steaks which we prefer over rib eye (the butcher always called them the poor mans rib eye and I think they're better). They also had the 3-lb packages of thick cut bacon for $12 so I got 2 more - we had just opened one so I needed to resupply (think I'm up to about 18 lbs in the freezer if not more).

Produce kind of slim. Still seeing lots of holes in the canned goods. Same thing in the pancake mixes - was going to restock my Krusteaz Blueberry, but they were out. Still have one package of the buttermilk mix.

Butter was on sale with their digital coupon for 1.99 lb - limit 4 so I got 4 more (we use lots of butter).

HINT:
The pasta from Italy is much less expensive than organic pasta.
The EU doesn't allow the round up ready crops
American pasta bothers me..pasta from Italy does not.
We have a Lidil here buy many things there from Europe.
Cookies, bread sticks etc they are made with old time flour.
Even Wally world has Italian pasta

I would agree unless you had a direct need for the distilled water you got.

Neither here nor there.

What kind of sex party are you going to have with that much mineral oil? I have severe obstructed sleep apnea and need to use the humidifier with my cpap machine, if I saw you with the last eight bottles of distilled water I would have taken a bottle from you and there wouldn't have been a damned thing you could have done about it because management would have been involved! What you did was selfish! OC went to the store and bought me two bottles and left ten on the shelf, because that's what considerate people do! :(

Dennis, the water will only last me a week and a half. I had to go to 2 stores last week to get ANY. Before all this started, I only went to the store every 2 1/2 weeks. I hate to shop anyway, no pick up times are ever available here.

Errand day today (N. MN), because tomorrow will be nuts with pre-holiday shoppers. Just hit the grocery store and the meat store, because it was a pleasant surprise this morning to see how much feed is still stacked in the barn.

Grocery store looking good. All the sale items well stocked. Baking aisle up to snuff - certainly adequate for bread or treat-making. Lots of canned vegetables (peas! Yay!), beans, fruit. Soup section was not full but more than enough and decent variety. Gawd...there still must be a lot of people who can't cook out there. Pasta/pasta sauce, beans, rice fine. Grocery store meat - heavy on pork, but anything you wanted was there - chicken, beef, fish. Paper aisle good - frozen section, good. Fresh produce is always brimming. The liquid laundry detergent I use was on sale, so I got a couple. Mask wearers..about 50/50.

Meat store...mask wearers - zero. I noticed that they even took down the plexiglass barriers this week. They have been trying so hard to keep everybody well fed at a decent price...I give them TONS of credit. Sale items again heavy on the pork - I bought their Montreal spiced chops (2.49/lb) and custom brats (4.99/lb) Also country style ribs at $1.49/lb. They had 10lb lean burger bags for 3.69/lb, hand-smoked bacon for 4.99/lb and bulk breakfast or Italian loose pork sausage for 1.99/lb but not this time - the freezer is full. Haha! I scored a good supply of burger and roasts last week from the neighbor who raises Angus and there's a small batch of (not small!) broilers in the barn that will be needing freezer space next few weeks.

So, anyway...nothing really fraying around the edges here yet. Good luck out there. Carry on.

My bottle of mineral oil is probably going on ten years now, I'm not sure what anyone would need eight bottles for outside of some weird sex party that involves rubber sheets.

I'm glad you've never had to drench a horse or any other choking livestock. Most farmers keep a couple gallons of mineral oil on hand all the time. I can't hold a gallon jug, a drench gun, and a choking animal by myself. I can manage pints..
I didn't know they made home distillation pumps.. I will look into getting one.

Let's Go Brandon!
Went grocery shopping today; some of the strangest holes in inventory.

Rice, for example; there was virtually nothing in the five-pound variety left. I've been grabbing a sack extra every week for the last month or two, trying to go "deep pantry" on this business and let the LTS food stay as long-term as possible. There was a disturbing run on frozen pizzas. Canned chicken has had virtually no availability for months now.

There is, however, plenty of toilet paper.

Hit the commissary today. Observations may be a but skewed as today is a payday and retirees are allowed back on. Sugar was heavily decimated. Peanut butter and jellies too. Some canned goods, as in mostly canned meats, hit pretty well. Roast beef hash went down a few cents of all things. Plenty of tp. No H2O2 or alcohol. Dairy and eggs well stocked. Meat in good supply including some excellent roasts in the bargain section. Cheap sht that I am that's where I usually shop and I've scored some excellent buys there, taste as well as price.
