Good Morning campers! So, wake up this morning, check the papers and find that Target and Cub Foods have apparently closed all their stores state-wide (MN) for the duration...yes...even 150 miles north of all the ruckus. Dang...even Corona couldn't do that. Wild.

Just got through the overnight thread again. Welcome back to the 60's m'dears! THIS is what it was like - for about a decade. I am fighting the urge to sew braid around the cuffs of my jeans, string some beads, and put a flower in my hair.

Peace out.

Target stores in Duluth, Virginia, Grand Rapids closed until further notice

Cub Foods also appeared to have closed early Friday, though no curfew was in effect in Duluth area.

Target stores in Duluth, Virginia and Grand Rapids will be closed until further notice, the retailer said Friday.

The stores were added to a list that began a day earlier with several Twin Cities metro locations. Protests and riots have spilled into the streets after Monday's in-custody death of George Floyd, and a Target store in Minneapolis was among the many businesses that have been looted, vandalized or set on fire in recent days.

"We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing our community," Target said in a statement. "At this time, we have made the decision to close a number of our stores until further notice. Our focus will remain on our team members’ safety and helping our community heal."

As of late Friday, Target's temporary closure list included 70 stores across Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, Cub Foods in Duluth was reported to have closed by 8 p.m. Friday. Calls to the normally 24-hour store were unanswered, and a corporate spokesman did not immediately respond to an inquiry from the News Tribune.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Friday imposed an overnight curfew in Minneapolis and St. Paul, ordering people off the streets from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Walz said other local jurisdictions could issue their own orders if deemed necessary, though none had been announced in northern Minnesota.
Some retailers, including Walmart, had already eliminated overnight hours in recent months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I hear you. I watched Fox as a bunch of folks looted a Dollar store, and I was like, "Why?" If you are going to risk arrest for doing something stupid, why not go the distance? If you are going to jail, when your cellmates ask, "Whadda ya in for?" Do you really want to tell them you stole a $1 storage container? A $1 pair of reading glasses? A set of 2 washclothes? You are going to get no respect at all!

Did you watch the video of the riots in Atlanta where the thugs smashed the windows of McCormick & Schmicks restaurant? They all ran in there, grabbed bottles of booze from the bar, and ran out. When that was gone, some started talking food, others ran out with chairs and wall art. I was just dumbfounded. What are you going to do walking around with a restaurant chair??

Fox News crew harassed, chased by angry mob while reporting on protests outside White House

Rioting crowds stoked by the death of a black man at the apparent hand of a Minneapolis cop turned their rage on journalists Friday, attacking a Fox News crew outside the White House in a harrowing scene captured on video.

Fox News reporter Leland Vittert was reporting on protests with two crewmembers when masked protesters stole their microphone, sprayed them with water and chased them in video captured by the Daily Caller.

"Imagine what it's like to be a black man, feeling like this every f***ing day,” a woman is seen shouting at the crew as they hurried away, surrounded by a growing mob.

Vittert and his crew appeared to avoid serious injury.

Hours earlier, the White House had been on lockdown as protests and riots escalated around the country. Fox News journalists and other members of the press were moved inside for a brief period with approximately a dozen reporters sheltered inside the West Wing.

The ongoing protests are in reaction to the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody in Minneapolis May 25 after a white officer pinned him down by pressing his knee into the back of Floyd’s neck while Floyd repeatedly said he couldn't breathe. The officer, Derek Chauvin, was fired and on Friday was charged with murder. Three other police officers were also fired but have not been charged.

Large-scale rioting broke out Friday night across the U.S., from New York City and Washington, D.C., to Chicago; Columbus, Ohio, Louisville, Ky., and Dallas, to San Jose, Calif.; Los Angeles and Portland, Ore.

‘Incredibly dangerous’: Officer killed in Oakland during George Floyd protests

Incredibly dangerous’: Officer killed in Oakland as law enforcement struggle to control George Floyd protests

Protests for the death of George Floyd have lead to extreme riots, looting and dangerous clashes with police in several cities in the US.

A Federal Protective Services officer has been killed in protests after two officers suffered gunshot wounds in California.
Two Federal Protective Service officers were shot during a protest in Oakland in California on Friday night, police told CNN. One of the officers died from his injuries.
Protests raged for a fourth night across the US, sparked by the death of African-American man George Floyd, who was allegedly killed by white police officer Derek Chauvin. State and federal authorities are investigating Mr Floyd’s death, and Chauvin has been charged with third degree murder and manslaughter.

“Two Federal Protective Services officers stationed at the Oakland Down Town Federal Building suffered gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, one succumbed to his injury,” the police department said in a statement.
The Federal Protective Service is controlled by the US Department of Homeland Security and secures government buildings. The report said arrests had occurred in Oakland but didn’t provide specific details.

The Governor of Minnesota has described the deteriorating situation in Minneapolis as “life threatening” and “incredibly dangerous” saying law enforcement are struggling to deal with the situation on the ground.
State Governor Tim Walz called the situation in the Minnesota city “dangerous” and “dynamic” as protesters continued to burn buildings and clash with police.
The government has called in 1700 members of the army as they try and regain control of the city, after days of rioting, looting, fires, violence and unrest.
Mr Walz said officers were focused on holding their ground and weren’t in a strong enough position to move to making arrests.

“The situation is incredibly dangerous. The situation is fluid, it is dynamic,” he said on Saturday.
“I understand the rage, I understand it. We’ve talked about it. We understand what has to happen.
“But the absolute chaos — this is not grieving, this is not making a statement — that we fully acknowledge needs to be fixed.
“This is life threatening, dangerous to the most well-qualified forces that are out there,” he said.

RELATED: George Floyd protests: 19-year-old protester shot dead by ‘unknown gunman’ in Detroit
Shortly before midnight, scores of officers on foot and in vehicles moved in to curb the violence, one day after city and state leaders faced blowback for their handling of the crisis. On Thursday, protesters burned a police station after it was abandoned by police and went on to burn and vandalise dozens of businesses.
The Governor vowed to take a more hard line approach on rioters, but acknowledged on Saturday morning the protesters had outnumbered his officers.
“We do not have the numbers,” Mr Walz said. “We cannot arrest people when we are trying to hold ground.”
Mr Walz said he was moving quickly to mobilise more than 1000 more members of the National Guard, for a total of 1700, and was considering the potential offer of federal military police. But he warned that even that might not be enough, saying he expected another difficult night Saturday.
The city’s Mayor Jacob Frey has pleaded with protesters to “stop” the destructive protests, saying on Friday “we can be so much better than this”.
The Pentagon on Saturday ordered the Army to put military police units on alert to head to the city on short notice at President Donald Trump’s request, according to three people with direct knowledge of the orders who did not want their names used because they were not authorised to discuss the preparations.
The rare step came as the violence spread to at least 19 other cities and a man was shot dead in Detroit.

Lord of the Flies............................

I finished up my hitch with the Army in the National Guard and we did extensive annual civil disturbance training. If Antifa and other groups are behind this with organizing and enabling they need to be rounded up immediately under any pretext and charged under the insurrection act. And looters need to be shot on sight. Perhaps one warning thru a megaphone and then start dropping them one by one. You will restore order pretty quickly. Average citizens are not doing this or participating in it and those that are tag a longs will quickly learn not to go to that extreme. A legitimate function of government is to protect the citizenry.

I hate to be this harsh but looters and rioters are not protestors and the crowd mentality being what it is when it gets to this extreme you need to quickly escalate your show of force in order to control it. Lawful protests are one thing but looting and rioting are totally something else.

That has the rioters quaking in their boots. Why, if this goes on any longer, Mayor Frey may even issue a more strongly worded statement directed at the rioters! The horror...

Yeah, but even if that was a cop, which I don’t think it was (do cops wear that kind of uniform and wear latex gloves to load a dead body up in an ambulance while the EMTs stay inside the vehicle?)... why would he be wearing a bullet-proof vest? It’s just one man dead on a scene. This was long before any riots started. Do cops typically wear body armor when arriving on a scene?
In my neck of the woods, all branches of LE wear different uniforms, and are often on a scene together. All wear bullet proof vests all the time. But like I said, this is just my opinion. I wasn’t there, I don’t know for sure. But I do think the guy in brown was already on the scene.

He needs to remember that the Deity of his last name isn't just a god of "peace and good harvests" but also a god of defensive war and imperial warfare, especially with unusually weapons (Frey fights with an antler at Ragnorock - long story for another thread).

At the risk of being “Captain Obvious”...
...and probably preaching to the choir...
...these protests and riots really disturb me.
  • Are there riots when blacks kill blacks, daily?
  • Are there riots when blacks kill whites, daily?
  • Are there riots when blacks rape or mug blacks or whites, daily?
I would say no. But when a fed-up white “loses it” after seeing (and fighting in this case) what is really going on, all hell breaks loose. With, in a lot of cases, whites leading the way.

WTF!?

What I cannot tell is, if the riots are truly organic/grass-roots, or if circumstances are being manipulated.

That didn't take long.
Sad.
So much for spousal loyalty.
She's divorcing him before the ink is dry on the indictment.

Also the fact that he married a Laotian Hmong refugee kind of shoots down the charge of him being a bigoted racist.
In the article she still speaks highly of him as far as treating her well.

On second thought maybe the divorce filing was agreed on by both of them as a safety measure for her own protection.
Demonstrators were outside both their home in Mn as well as a condo or something they own down here in Orlando. They were receiving numerous death threats.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin's wife announced that she is divorcing him

Hours after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was charged with the murder of George Floyd, his wife announced that she is divorcing him, WCCO-TV reported Friday night.
According to WCCO, Kellie Chauvin released a statement through her attorney saying, “She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death,” sends condolences to his family and is divorcing Derek Chauvin.
She also asks that her family — her children from another marriage, her elderly parents and her extended family — be given safety and privacy.
Kellie Chauvin, who was profiled in the Pioneer Press in 2018, is a Laotian refugee who became the first Hmong Mrs. Minnesota. She told the Pioneer Press that she met Derek Chauvin when he dropped off a suspect at a Minneapolis hospital where she worked.

“Under that uniform, he’s just a softie,” the Oakdale resident said in the profile. “He’s such a gentleman. He still opens the door for me, still puts my coat on for me. After my divorce, I had a list of must-haves if I were ever to be in a relationship, and he fit all of them.”

On Memorial Day, Derek Chauvin was seen on a bystander’s video pinning Floyd to the ground with his knee to Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes. Floyd, who was suspected of trying to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at a South Minneapolis grocery, is seen handcuffed and lying face-down while he pleads: “Please, I can’t breathe.” He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Springfield, MO tomorrow I'm hearing.

According to our local news, this one is suppose to be "peaceful"...until the "outsiders" come in and ratchet things up. Seems that's how it happens in many/most places and it doesn't take long to get the masses all riled up and ready for some "come and get your free stuff". Could be wrong, which I have been many times, but we'll see. This ain't going away any time soon.

An't this rich...

In the middle of all these riots... and looting ...

Here is what Trump tweeted-

View attachment 199947

And here is what "Larry" Lightfoot twisted it into--->

CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Mayor Lightfoot had very choice, very specific words for President Trump’s comments on the murder of George Floyd:

“I will code what I really want to say to Donald Trump It begins with F and ends with you.”

...

“I watched in horror as President Trump tweeted a threat to shoot people. In the streets,” Lightfoot said.

"
Gov. JB Pritzker also expressed his own outrage at Trump’s tweets regarding the protests in the Twin Cities.

“His tweets, his reaction, his failure to address the racism that exists in America is stoking the flames in sometimes subtle and sometimes not so subtle ways, is completely unacceptable. It’s reprehensible,” Pritzker said."

All of these police brutality events occur in blue cities that have been firmly in the hands of democrats for decades. The police departments in these blue cities are directly controlled by the entrenched democrat leadership. The decaying inner-cities where blacks suffer this racism and oppression are directly controlled by these democrat city leaders. These democrats running these blue cities have had the power to make meaningful changes for blacks yet decade after decade they do nothing but continue the racism and abuse.

Gov dipship's accusation that Trump (who has only held a political office for 3-1/2 years) has failed to address the racism that exists in America is completely asinine. It is the democrat politicians who have been in control of blue cities and blue states for 60 plus years who have failed miserably to address the racism that exists in America that is stoking the flames in sometimes subtle and sometimes not so subtle ways, that is what is completely unacceptable. The fact that democrats have been in control for decades and have done nothing to end racism and police brutality in their blue cities and states is what is reprehensible, but what is even more reprehensible is their blaming President Trump and his supporters for the violent results of THEIR generational abuse of black people.

The democrats were on the verge of losing their black vote slaves and suddenly we have riots everywhere. If the democrats were to write a script to have a white police officer kill a black man to generate outrage in the black community they could not have written a more perfect script than what occurred in Minneapolis. I smell a rat, a demorat.

The reality is Trump has been and continues to address the racism that the democrats have fostered for years which is why the democrats were losing the black vote. Trump's actual success in that which they have claimed to be doing for tens of years is why they are all coming out using these antifa riots as an opportunity to smear Trump with the racism mud with which they are so familiar.

I think President Trump is waiting until they broach residential areas before he plays his hand. Even if he does declare martial law, he will gain votes from this from affected blue areas.

The Marxists are trying to scare the populace into submission and think that people will vote "D" next election. What they don't comprehend is that we will protect ourselves (as we have the 2nd amendment) and that if action is taken to prevent this terrorism in residential areas, the people will see President Trump as a hero.

I also expect Antifa to be declared a terroristic organization with leaders and members being arrested federally and perhaps, just perhaps, sent to Gitmo. I could also see a freezing of Soros' assets. Now, wouldn't that be interesting.

I also don't see President Trump handing out federal aid to any of the cities/states that didn't make an effort to stop the terrorists. They will go into bankruptcy, if he plays this as I hope he does.
