chatroom at Agenda Free said he told those there he was going to cut down a utility pole at the 3rd precinct and try to disrupt power to the police station. can't verify that as I did not hear any audio but it sounds legit.

Unicorn Riot was reporting about 45 minutes ago that the Guard was finally deployed on scene, they are mentioning a "Commander Rockwell" is in charge. hmmm eyes in the sky? We will likely get more details in the morning.

Agree with Doug, if they don't get a handle on the city by noon, it will continue for a 3rd night

UPDATE: National Guard support requested by city to combat riots in South Minneapolis

Protests continued into Wednesday night in south Minneapolis, where Chopper 5 captured video of apparent looting at a nearby Target and other area businesses. Fires have sprung up around the area as well.
Gov. Tim Walz tweeted late Wednesday night, calling the situation near Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue an "extremely dangerous situation."

The situation near Lake Street and Hiawatha in Minneapolis has evolved into an extremely dangerous situation. For everyone's safety, please leave the area and allow firefighters and paramedics to get to the scene.
— Governor Tim Walz (@GovTimWalz) May 28, 2020
The protests are happening in response to the death of George Floyd, who was killed Monday night after an incident that involved Minneapolis Police officers. All four officers involved in the arrest were fired on Tuesday.

Protesters were seen on Chopper 5 footage throwing bottles and rocks at law enforcement, while officers responded with rubber bullets, flash bombs and tear gas to push them back.
Some looters at the East Lake Street Target location were seen walking out with televisions, rugs and other items from the store. Other looters were seen at a tobacco store, a Dollar Tree and a liquor store. Additionally, Cub Foods and an AutoZone is being looted as well.
The AutoZone was set on fire as of 9:30 p.m. It could be seen burning on Chopper 5 video.
A source has confirmed to KSTP that the city requested support from the National Guard late Wednesday night to combat the ongoing riots.

A Target spokesperson made the following statement: "We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing our community. We decided to close our Lake Street store earlier today and worked to ensure all of our team members were accounted for and safe. Our focus will remain on our team members’ safety and helping our community heal. Until further notice, our store will remain closed."
KSTP has a crew on scene to gather more information. The Minneapolis Police Department said they are aware of what is happening in the area and are working on the matter. They advise all to stay out of the area for the time being.
Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith shared her thoughts on the night's protests.
I’m praying for peace and healing tonight in Minneapolis, as I hear sirens and explosions across our green city. Our community is in so much pain. Dr. King said, “I can only close the gap in broken community by meeting hate with love.”
— Senator Tina Smith (@SenTinaSmith) May 28, 2020
Metro Transit has announced that Routes 5 and 23 are being detoured around the area.
Walz also posted a series of tweets earlier Wednesday night calling on people to be peaceful if they choose to protest.
If you plan to turn your pain into action by joining a public demonstration, please do so peacefully and safely to protect your own health and the health of the people around you.
— Governor Tim Walz (@GovTimWalz) May 28, 2020
That’s why I’m pushing for a full, fair, and expeditious investigation that will bring us closer to justice. We must continue to examine and address the systemic inequities and discrimination that led to this incident and far too many that have come before.
— Governor Tim Walz (@GovTimWalz) May 28, 2020
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey tweeted a statement urging others to keep the peace.
Please, Minneapolis, we cannot let tragedy beget more tragedy.

The area along Lake has become unsafe. We are asking for your help in keeping the peace tonight. Liz Navratil on Twitter
— Mayor Jacob Frey (@MayorFrey) May 28, 2020
Minneapolis Senators Jeff Hayden and Patricia Torres Ray also made a joint statement on Thursday saying:
"We, along with our constituents, are deeply heartbroken and outraged by the injustice that occurred in the officer-involved death of George Floyd. As our community continues to grieve and grapple with this incredibly unjustifiable loss of life, we believe in their right to peacefully protest. We have grown increasingly concerned, for the safety of the City of Minneapolis and its residents, as the demonstration has escalated. More than ever, our community must come together during this hard time and in this work to fiercely advocate for the justice that is needed. We are eager to effectively partner with community organizers, leaders, activists, and advocates to prevent the loss of another life due to excessive use of force."

I’ve never said this before, but THIS TIME I feel the rioters have a legitimate issue.

Generations of officers, including me, have been/ trained to put a knee across the back of a combative suspects neck once you got them down for cuffing / searching .You didn't put full wait but you controlled the neck and head during cuffing. Thee officers have already been denied due process on being fired, and they have had the jury pool all the way to bum f*ck middle of nowhere, USA, contaminated with words, and visuals We still when all circumstances are considered have the best thing going. Sadly the liberals, commies, and anarchists are at work.

sounds like there are a lot of fires being started, in some areas full blocks are involved,

as far as looting, someone planned this, they loot one area, then a mile away they hit another. then a mile in a different direction,

Be very careful out there,

Nah, looks like Antifa. They wear all black. Last night, someone was making note of all the out-of-state cars coming in, looking at license plates and announcing what state they were from:

Wow, brings back memories both as a child in 1965 when my Mom took a "wrong turn" off the LA freeway during the Watts riots and later huddling in bed with a close friend (just a friend a lot of folks stuck in a small apartment) both of us trapped by rioting in 1992 after being "sent home" early but not getting there (San Francisco).

Things were not nearly as bad in San Fransico as they were in LA but we didn't have the internet or a way of knowing that at the time, all we could hear was the screaming, the glass breaking, and the sirens - I sobbed half the night being 5 years old again.

My friend passed away two years ago, I'm glad he's not alive to see "round three."

A "historical note" this is NO EXCUSE for burning down targets and looting but historically people who are in "rioting/revolution" mode just do this - especially if the people rioting feel extremely poor or marginalized (even when that poverty is "relative" and not "that bad.")

It seems to go back to a time when as Jarrard Diamond points out in his book collapse, the idea that in a real collapse situation (food runs out on a small island for example) often there is evidence the local population revote and kill off (often really brutally) their "elites" down to the last baby held in arms.

Or as he put it more bluntly, the idea that being an elite in such a situation can simply be the ticket to either being the last people to starve to death or the FIRST PEOPLE to be murdered by mob freezy when the supplies run out.

No, these people are not actually starving, the situation is not exactly the same, but humans tend to be wired to act in certain ways and one of them is mob violence and looting of food and/or shops especially of those they consider to still "have something" that they feel "they don't have" (reality is unimportant).

I've lived in Oakland and once saw the same sorts of riots (on a small scale) of Black folks on Black Businesses after their "Juneteenth" Festival got cut short for some reason and instead of going home the folks attending went on a rioting spree (catching many folks just coming home from work or shopping totally out and exposed to the dangers).

That night on the news the Black Mayor of Oakland said: "This is not a race issue" and my housemate at I said out loud at the same time: "No IT IS A CLASS ISSUE!"

But when you add race to the mixture it tends to get even more explosive - that and the COVID-19 lockdowns, hot weather and a lot of folks either not getting any cash (or able to go to work) along with a PERCEPTION that "other folks" have it better was a powder keg waiting to happen.

This has now set the fuse, horrific as this is, if it had not happened something else would have lit the fuse I'm pretty sure.

Yeah, crazy, eh? I saw women strolling around like it was a regular shopping day; one with a cart full of food; some chubby white woman running out with lamps, etc. The old white woman in the wheelchair, reportedly stabbing people in front of Tarjay's doors (but she got whomped upside the head by some little black chick and totally hosed with fire extinguishers, did you see those clouds of white stuff they sprayed at her?) .......... sigh............... I live in this world.................
