I keep a price book. Earlier this week I shopped at Aldi's, here in the upper mid-West. I didn't check out meat prices because I get our meat from a local farmer. But I did find it interesting that their prices on shelf stable foods have not gone up at all.
All of these prices are at Aldi's. It's the first time I've been shopping in months. For example,
Canned corn: 11/8/18 was .49, 11/5/19 was .45, on 5/12/2020 was .44
Flour (5lb): 3/31/19 was $1.22, 5/12/2020 was $1.15
Peanut butter (18 oz): 11/13/15 was $1.49, 11/8/17 was $1.15, 11/5/19 was $1.15, 5/12/20 was $1.15
Canned salmon (14.75 oz): 3/15/17 was $2.49, 5/12/20 was $2.29
Cream of Mushroom soup : 7/14/17 was .49, 5/12/20 was .49
Sugar is normally pretty volatile. 4lbs of sugar has ranged from $2.69 in 2015, $1.79 in 2016 & 2017, to $1.29 in 2018, and $1.73 on 5/12/20.
