So why prolong the agony, let's get back to work without mass gatherings but on a local scale that will have little or no effect whatsoever on the spread of the disease.

That's pretty much the trade-off. Even mild rates of infection will swamp hospitals, so flattening the curve merely extends the swamping. Maybe better therapies will be developed, saving lives later on. Maybe a vaccine will be developed. Beyond those possibilities, getting it over with seems attractive.

Wouldn’t getting back to work equate to mass gatherings? Cubicle hell, crowded stores, etc.?

Separately, there are a lot of clinical studies for treatments ongoing, but they need time. Even intubation seems to need to be revisited, per a post above. More time still for vaccines.

If we just say “the hell with it” like the UK was originally talking about (then reversed), no time to develop treatments.

I think no matter what the eventual outcome will be the same either way. I know your view is the current logical one and somewhat idealistic, there will be no vaccines or treatment for this phase of the virus which has been said by everyone in the health industry, there will be no cure, treatment of vaccine for months and years so we have to adapt to this situation.
I hate to say this.

Yes I know and people have said this before, but quite frankly it is not happening. The measures to flatten the curve have not worked and probably could not have given many social factors and the infectiousness of the virus.
Richard, even though I'm suffering claustrophobia like everyone else, I would counsel patience.
There are some reports, even from New York, that numbers may be leveling. As mentioned just above, a little more time may offer an effective treatment. More prevelant testing will enable caculated isolation. Warm weather just may hinder spread.
A little faith and courage are what's needed now.
So goes the pep talk I give myself each morning.

A tiger at the zoo has tested positive for the new coronavirus. It's believed to be the first infection in an animal in the U.S. and the first known in a tiger anywhere, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Sunday, April 5, 2020. The zoo says all the animals are expected to recover.

NEW YORK (AP) — A tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for the new coronavirus, in what is believed to be the first known infection in an animal in the U.S. or a tiger anywhere, federal officials and the zoo said Sunday.

The 4-year-old Malayan tiger, and six other tigers and lions that have also fallen ill, are believed to have been infected by a zoo employee, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said. The first animal started showing symptoms March 27, and all are expected to recover, said the zoo, which has been closed to the public since March 16.

“We tested the cat out of an abundance of caution” and aim to “contribute to the world’s continuing understanding of this novel coronavirus,” said Dr. Paul Calle, the zoo’s chief veterinarian.

The finding raises new questions about transmission of the virus in animals. The USDA says there are no known cases of the virus in U.S. pets or livestock.

“It’s important to assure pet owners and animal owners that at this time there isn’t any evidence that they can spread the virus,” said Dr. Jane Rooney, a veterinarian and a USDA official.

The coronavirus outbreaks around the world are driven by person-to-person transmission, experts say.

There have been reports of a small number of pets outside the United States becoming infected after close contact with contagious people, including a Hong Kong dog that tested positive for a low level of the pathogen in February and early March. Hong Kong agriculture authorities concluded that pet dogs and cats couldn’t pass the virus to human beings but could test positive if exposed by their owners.

Some researchers have been trying to understand the susceptibility of different animal species to the virus, and to determine how it spreads among animals, according to the Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as a fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and can be fatal.

From the OP:

"At Maimonides, the Jews-only ambulance service Hatzalah has somehow gotten its hands on 50 ventilators and donated them to the Borough Park hospital. This donation comes with strings attached: Jews will get priority access, and in cases where an elderly Jewish patient is far gone and a young Gentile patient could be saved, the Jew must keep his ventilator indefinitely."

Yes, the article contained a LONG explanation of their values on end-of-life care. It did NOT erase the above, which you clearly missed.

From Definition of priority | Dictionary.com

priority

the right to precede others in order, rank, privilege, etc.; precedence.
the right to take precedence in obtaining certain supplies, services, facilities, etc., especially during a shortage.
something given special attention.

This donation comes with strings attached:

Go to the link.

It says nothing like this:

Jews will get priority access, and in cases where an elderly Jewish patient is far gone and a young Gentile patient could be saved, the Jew must keep his ventilator indefinitely."

What it DOES Say is:

"In the recording, Chasky Rosenberg, a paramedic with the service, said the hospital had agreed to put on a respirator every single patient regardless of age, or whether they have more than one chronic condition. Also, the hospital had agreed not to take patients off ventilators without consulting families. He did not respond to requests for comment.

“Maimonides has committed to us that as long as they have the equipment, they will intubate every single patient,” he said, using the medical term for inserting a tube into the airway, which is needed to connect a patient to a ventilator.

The patients had complained that the hospital’s apparent removal of patients from ventilators was not in line with their religious traditions, which prioritize the sanctity of life over the quality of life."

And you are still a piece of crap for defending this type of hatred.

Re: health, I am actually more optimistic about improvements in treatments. There are a LOT of treatments being developed and undergoing clinical studies, but they need time. Social distancing and extra hygiene helps reduce the viral load: presumably a smaller “dose” of the WuFlu gives better outcome.

Does anyone else have any supporting documentation that supports what this video says in that once you catch this virus, even if you recover that it lies dormant in you waiting to strike again. Is it possible we carry it forever and when we get sick, week, old, it takes us out?

KT,

No one knows what will happen in the future if the virus lives on in the body. With the virus waking up again in Wuhan, it would be expedient to watch Wuhan for it will show what is happening, but the CCP will try to cover it up.

Be careful out there.

I suspect either the big cats are more susceptible (if the whole pride tests positive) or the virus has morphed again (they do that).

The original version was known to occasionally infect cats (from their owners) but this is a higher level and not a good thing.

Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital with coronavirus after suffering persistent symptoms for 10 days.

Downing Street insisted it was just a precautionary measure but Johnson’s admission on a Sunday evening comes after days of rumours that his condition has been worsening.

A Downing Street spokesperson said: “On the advice of his doctor, the prime minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the prime minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus 10 days after testing positive for the virus.

Johnson is reported to be in an NHS hospital in London where he will stay for “as long as needed”.

It is understood Johnson remains in charge of the government, although Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary and first secretary of state, is poised to take charge if he should worsen.

Raab, who is the designated minister to take over if the PM is incapacitated, will chair the 9.15am Monday meeting of the government’s C-19 committee, which leads the response to the pandemic.

Johnson had been hoping to leave quarantine on Friday after seven days of self isolation but his persistent temperature meant he had to remain inside his flat at No 11 Downing Street.

The Guardian was told last week that Johnson was more seriously ill than either he or his officials were prepared to admit, and that he was being seen by doctors who were concerned about his breathing.

But Downing Street flatly denied that the prime minister’s health had seriously deteriorated, and insisted there were no plans at that point for him to be admitted to hospital.

Earlier on Sunday, Matt Hancock was asked just how ill the prime minister was. The health secretary told Sophy Ridge on Sunday: “He’s OK. I’ve been talking to him every day, several times a day… he’s very much got his hand on the tiller. But he’s still got a temperature.” He added: “He’s working away inside Downing Street. He’s in good spirits.”

Hancock himself has only recently come out from isolation after testing positive for coronavirus, although his symptoms appear to have been notably milder.

Johnson’s partner, Carrie Symonds, who is pregnant, revealed on Saturday that she had also been suffering from the virus but is recovering.

Keir Starmer, the new Labour leader, was among a string of MPs to tweet their best wishes to Johnson. “Wishing the prime minister well and a speedy recovery,” he wrote.

Jeremy Hunt, the former health secretary and Johnson’s main rival for the Conservative leadership last year, tweeted: “Thoughts with Boris Johnson this evening.

Whatever political persuasion the whole country is united in wanting our PM to get fit and well as soon as possible.”

They said it was an infected worker. What'd he do, spit in their food? I hope not. Because if not, all he did was breathe in their vicinity.

What really happened was he made a political judgment the people were going to snap, so he cut the number of tests. Sheesh, these politicians don't even bother to hide their lies anymore.

It's what I have been saying since the first "reinfections" appeared and now some have tested positive 3 times. It is why I believe anti-malarial drugs work on the virus... Because it acts like malaria. Which also explains the massive reaction to the virus that so many deem an over-reaction. The heads of state know this but can't let it out. If you catch it once and it keeps reemerging, it is a death sentence and everything they are doing to contain it, suddenly, makes more sense.

It is estimated that nearly 30 percent of Americans own their own homes free and clear. Refer to below.

The banksters may try to foreclose on all of the home mortgages, but with the amount of new gun owners and the 100 million plus of existing gun owners, the banksters may find this will not work. Just how many LEO's will try to serve eviction notices when faced with an armed resistance? How many of the LEO's will tell the banksters to stuff their conviction notices where the sun does not shine. Remember, LEO's also have mortgages.

Will be interesting.

One of things the farmers of the 1930's could never figure out is that if the bank had too many 'bad' mortgages not paying anything, the bank examiners closed it down. Cursing the banks for trying to own land was a not addressing the problem. As I stated above, the banks had little interest in owning property. But if that was the only way they could get 'bad' mortgages off their books, they'd do it.

Today, supposedly a different ball game (metaphor there) The banks won't be hounded for having a bunch of 'bad' mortgages. We shall see.

I agree that banks do not want to own real estate. I am on the Board of a bank and we only foreclose when every other possibility has been exhausted. Why? As soon as we foreclose we are then on the hook for real estate taxes, insurance, heat & maintenance etc. Instead of not just getting paid on the mortgage we then have a whole new array of expenses, including the realtor and legal costs of selling the property.

Abstract
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes the infectious disease COVID-19, which was first reported in Wuhan, China in December, 2019. Despite the tremendous efforts to control the disease, COVID-19 has now spread to over 100 countries and caused a global pandemic. SARS-CoV- 2 is thought to have originated in bats; however, the intermediate animal sources of the virus are completely unknown. Here, we investigated the susceptibility of ferrets and animals in close contact with humans to SARS-CoV-2. We found that SARS-CoV-2 replicates poorly in dogs, pigs, chickens, and ducks, but efficiently in ferrets and cats. We found that the virus transmits in cats via respiratory droplets. Our study provides important insights into the animal reservoirs of SARS-CoV-2 and animal management for COVID-19 control.

Followup to comment about all of the vehicles at the Texoma Medical Center. Talked to the hospital and was informed that they are testing for Covid-19 thru their ER, but the crowd at the Medical Center was a community gathering probably to discuss Covid-19, but could not get the lady to confirm why all of the vehicles except a community meeting.

City of Denison issued a "Stay Home, Stay Safe Ordinance" Thursday. (Texoma Medical Center is in the City of Dension.)

"Without the individuals making choices not to leave and stay home and stay safe -- the community becomes at risk," said Denison City Manager Jud Rex.

It's important to note a stay at home order is not the same as a lock down. Rex said the big difference is that a lock down is enforceable by law, while an ordinance is passed by a city council.

Some businesses are closed, but essential goods and services are still available. For example, groceries, medicine and restaurants through drive-thru or take out options.

While officials say leaving your home for essential items or tasks is allowed, they are still urging anyone who thinks they may be sick to remain indoors. However, the ordinance also permits visits to the doctor.

Amanda Ortez with the Grayson County Health Department recommends going to the doctor on a routine basis.

There really aren't things you can't do, but there are musts. Officials tell us if you do go out, you must practice social distancing.

"We all play a part through following the guidelines that have been put out by the CDC and the State of Texas," Rex said.

The CDC recommends staying six feet away from others and avoiding crowded places, for your safety and everyone else.

Link: There's a stay home order: What that means for you

With all of the edicts and demands not to gather in groups is very strange.

How many of these folks will become infected?
