Just chatted with a friend who lives in the UK just outside of London. She’s up with a sick baby. Everyone is freaking out there about the leaked gov’t report that the worst case scenario is 80% of their population will get it, and half a million people will die. She said everyone is going nuts with plans to get to the store and stock up and find masks. Many Londoners are seriously stressing about taking the Tube and the close quarters of shops, restaurants, and schools. Some local news person there said it’s likely already in London and spreading... it’s just a matter of when it will show up.
And just saw that 80% of the “church” members tested in South Korea have tested positive.
I think you're overreacting, but we'll see.Personally, no. He had no personal knowledge of the virus. He immediately referred to the anecdotal "its just the flu bro" and that "its nothing. Ebola exploded people" foolishness. He constantly looked for approval from the medical professionals on stage with him. In this issue, he is an empty suit.
You hear the same bs from HHS, CDC and the lot that has been said for the last several weeks. They are trying to hide it into the flu and have even convinced Trump that the "flu kills a bunch of people" so that when the bodies start to stack up he will be like the majority of the clueless and think "man, this is a bad flu season".
He looked as impotent as buttigieg, as confused as biden, as caring as hillary, and as serious as Bernie. For the love of all things Holy I don't know what he was thinking. It convinced no one. Those that believe everything he says will not prepare and will continue to trust the empty suit. Those that pillory him at every opportunity will have endless ammunition now. He lost the White House tonight. We may lose the country if an adult doesn't show up.
apparently scrap lead at US metal scrapyards is sent to mexico (due to haz/chemical restrictions) and processed into NEW batteries and then sent back to US consumersGood to know. Have to wonder if any of the things that the batteries are made out of come from China .
I think you're overreacting, but we'll see.
But, the only way they can pillory him is if he is wrong.

TRUMP hasn't lost me or my vote!
No need to scream, dude; panicky people do that. This thread is not about panic, our contributors are newsgathering, trying to discern fact from fiction, and everyone is PREPPING.
PREPPING IS NOT PANICKING.
I agree with you Rondaben. I am a strong Trump supporter, he will always have my vote, but this press conference tonight did not show his better side. On a positive note, by putting the sheeple who were starting to wake up back to sleep - he's given those who are fully awake some extra time to finish up any prepping they want to do. I have no idea how bad it will get in the USA, but if this country starts having cases like Iran and Italy and SK, this may turn out to be his Baghdad Bob moment.
Here's another thought though: what if the approach they have decided to take is not test anyone, and let all COVID cases be diagnosed as pneumonia or flu. If you don't test for it, you can't have any positive result to report. No test, no cases. He's proven right, it was nothing to see, it was just a super bad flu season. then next winter, after the election is over, and they have the vaccine to deal with it they'll just say flu season is more mild compared to 2020, which was the 'worst on record'. It's an approach. It could work if 80% of those infected are mild cases. hmmm?

I think he's under enormous pressure. There is no one but Trump I want in charge at this point.
Apparently, someone who invests can read besides just listen.DOW futures down 230 ish. The financial markets are not too reassured. The rest of this week for markets will be telling.
Same here but there are a crap load of American voters who are very wishy-washy... What happens in the near future could be a game changer, IMHO...

I'll start tomorrow when I get home from my GI Breath Test.
Somewhere along the way, fracking will no longer be profitable. At that point we will have to import oil, unless our economy goes into the tank.
Personally, my biggest concern is we have a massive outbreak brewing below the surface,
1,000's of CoronaVirus cases already here, but hidden among the flu stats, so none of them
are being tracked, nor in any quarantine, out freely & actively infecting thousands more...

By October 2016, I lost confidence in Trump for some of the very reasons you note. Now it should be noted that his gut instinct is the best I have ever seen. And he has been incredibly lucky, I really did not think he would get this far. But sooner or later, both will fail and we may be seeing it. If the Demos pick Bernie and disaster occurs, I give him a pretty good chance to win the POTUS. Because he will have a program that desperate people will buy into. As I have ranted many times, when times get desperate, the people turn Left.DJT spent his life in the private sector surrounded by yes-wo/men and sycophants who crossed him at their peril.
When it's your name on the door, you get to do that.
The POTUS functions in a completely different environment; s/he cannot know all things at the depth and breadth necessary to forge sound public policy. Ergo, s/he must rely upon and trust the advice of others who are better informed or more experienced. DJT has repeatedly refused to listen to those in his administration who don't agree with his preconceptions, however weakly informed, and in fact is prone to banish them.
Tonight's presser was a classical Greek tragedy.

You are responsible for you and yours so be responsible for your corner of reality.
Depends on what the attack rate here is. If its 60-70% no. No one will buy 20 million or so that are sick enough to need hospitalization (but can't get it) or the million or so critically ill that would die from it without a vent or ICU bed. Especially when the death rate was on the high end of normal up until march and then went up 10 fold when we also happened to have coronavirus. If they can keep it manageable (and I don't see how without strict quarantine) then maybe. Your guess is as good as mine on that.
Damn! That is the best news I have read in a long time. Our culture has absorbed 1000's of cases without blinking an eye. Tremendous! By the way, I sell bridges. Got some good prospects coming up. Some with barricades, others without.Personally, my biggest concern is we have a massive outbreak brewing below the surface,

Did you happen to save a link to that???
That "church" had thousands of members!
ETA: I just saw your tweet... Thanks! 80% WHO HAVE BEEN TESTED are positive with almost 8000 waiting to be tested.
Whew!
I read your statement, totally, wrong...
As they well know, so the narrative will be built around him being wrong. The fact none of them understand the complexities and interwoven demands of driving the titanic thru the eye of a needle is beside the point. Orange Man Bad! HallaLuah! FINALLY we will have dead and dying bodies to do what the klown car brigade couldn't!I think you're overreacting, but we'll see.
But, the only way they can pillory him is if he is wrong.
We had a small business. We could not afford to pay our 40 employees two-three weeks worth of wages without income coming in, even if it came out of our taxes and slim profit margin. Maybe if we didn't have to pay the employer's portion of SS, Medicare, unemployment, worker's comp etc. state and federal taxes we might have squeeked by, but it would have been a very close thing. We would still have owed rent, vehicle leases, equipment leases/loans, several types of insurance, utilities, etc. Quarantine most likely would have bankrupted us. Small business owners do not have deep pockets like large corporations, and most people are employed by small business owners. This is uncharted territory. The Ebola thing was short lived. This appears not to be. To me he kinda looks like Bush did when he was told about the wtc. He’s ultimately trying not to panic the people. If everyone here were asked how they’d handle this emergency, we’d get a hundred different answers. Pelosi and Schumer did not do the country a service by opening the sewers they have for mouths. Consider this, what would they do with another billion dollars, buy more masks from where? He may not have looked his best but this was impromptu. I can remember O looking like a complete idiot when his teleprompter failed him. There’s plenty of video of that. Also consider what everyone is most concerned with here. Economic failure.
personally, I thing employers should be mandated to pay employees for sick time missed by this illness and if it comes to a country quarantine, everyone should get paid and the employers should be able to deduct that cost from their taxes.
