What makes this Virus so bad that burial of the dead is not a option ?

China it is more customary to cremate rather than to bury. But if the crematoriums became overwhelmed they might just have to start burying folks.

But knowing China if they did decide to do that they would just dig a huge hole, maybe line it with something, pour bodies in, and cover it with concrete. That way the land wouldn't go to waste and they could put a building on top.

1000 deaths DO NOT make a pandemic. If it did, Islam would have been declared a viral pandemic on 911.
the numbers reported by China and worldwide can in no possible way justify a pandemic.
the numbers do not justify the quarantine of 50 million people, the lock down of 400 million, the shutdown of major sectors of the economy.

not in China. the US has 1/5 the population and had 50K flu deaths last year
50K in China would routine.
Which makes you wonder why they did what they are still doing and why..... this can not be a routine case of flu with up to 50k in deaths.... it is much more. We just do not know what the more is......

I say that in 1st world countries with sanitation, we are observing that only 10 to 20% actually get the pneumonia which is the killer part. So we will have a thinning of the herd, but not the end of everything as we know it. Economically, between the disruption of supply chains, and the potential for China to dump all the Treasury bonds, we will be feeling some effects. Impossible to say just how heavy. And some in the medical community clearly know how to fight the side of king storm which attacks the young. Much good material has already been published on this thread about that period and we know about elderberry extract and lowmatium-'at least some of us do.

Some of these are pretty noteworthy I think;

Epidemic prevention and control in China have entered a critical stage that requires stringent efforts: President Xi Jinping

Wartime control measures are implemented in Zhangwan district in Shiyan, Hubei Province, starting from Thursday, which means all buildings will be fully closed in the next 14 days.

China's catering sector is among the hardest hit by coronavirus epidemic, with 93% of restaurants have been shut...

These statements are coming from the official Chinese mouthpiece. Doesn't sound to me that they are so sure that everything is under control like our media and Wall Street want us to think.

I mean... what could POSSIBLY go wrong here???

LA Monitors 1,000 People For Coronavirus Symptoms
LAX is one of 11 U.S. airport's accepting travelers from China, and the county is monitoring 1,000 who have been asked to "self-isolate."

LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles County public health nurses are closely monitoring all residents who recently traveled to mainland China, regardless of whether they have any symptoms of the coronavirus, the county's top health official said Tuesday.

More than 1,000 people fall into that category and each has been assigned a public health nurse and asked to self-isolate and not to go to work or school for 14 days, Department of Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer told the Board of Supervisors.

"This is an aggressive effort to touch all the people who've come into L.A. County," Ferrer said.

DPH is also reaching out to employers and schools and asking them to accommodate the travelers with flexible leave and the ability to manage school or work at home.

"It's a very small number of people ... but nonetheless those people need all of our support," Ferrer said.

Federal directives affecting travelers went into effect Feb. 2, and notices about symptoms to watch for were posted two and a half weeks ago.

"We've had 100% cooperation from travelers," she said.

Supervisor Janice Hahn said she knew of at least one resident who returned from China and was asked not to come into work. Ferrer said any traveler who has any concerns and was not screened at the airport can reach out via 211 to be assigned a DPH contact.

Supervisor Hilda Solis said she was worried about discrimination, as well as anxiety caused by the pandemic, especially for residents with family in China.

"So many fears have been cultivated based on racial profiling," Solis said, citing the case of a young boy who was beaten up or bullied because of a perceived connection to the virus.

The coronavirus -- now dubbed COVID-19 by the World Health Organization -- was first identified by the Chinese government on Dec. 31, when authorities indicated an unknown pneumonia variant was impacting residents of Hubei province.

Globally, more than 43,000 people have contracted the coronavirus and 1,018 people -- two of them outside of mainland China -- have died as a result.

"The numbers are staggering," Ferrer said, but she stressed that the number of patients remains low in the United States, with 13 confirmed cases nationwide. Of those, seven are in California, including one each in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties.

"It's safe to keep patronizing our Chinese vendors," Ferrer said. "There is no reason for us to take the fear to a level that is not supported by any science."

All but two of the 13 U.S. cases are people who traveled to China. The remaining two are spouses of those travelers. Less than 1% of confirmed cases worldwide are outside of China.

Ferrer said DPH workers are coordinating on "multiple calls every day with our federal and state partners," including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Defense.

She acknowledged that additional cases are likely, given continuing travel from China. Ferrer also noted that the majority of deaths from COVID-19, as with the flu, are related to an underlying health condition. In China, an additional issue seems to be that people are having trouble accessing care, she said, though information from China is limited and the government there has refused help from the CDC.

"In the Hubei province, they are overwhelmed with people who are sick," Ferrer said.

No foreign nationals from any country who have recently traveled to China are now allowed entry to the United States.

U.S. citizens and their close family members who travel from China are only allowed to pass through one of 11 airports nationwide, including LAX, where they are screened into one of three groups.

Those with symptoms of respiratory illness or fever -- a very small number, according to Ferrer -- are transported to a medical facility for further screening and testing.

Those who have been in Hubei province, where Wuhan is located, or who have had close contact with someone else with the virus are subject to mandatory quarantine at one of four American military bases, including March Air Reserve Base in Riverside. A group of 195 people held at March were released from a 14-day quarantine Tuesday morning. None had tested positive for the virus.

Officials at the base said two other travelers who passed through LAX and who were brought to the base separately from the original group of 195 remain under quarantine.

U.S. citizens traveling from anywhere else in China who have not had close contact with the virus and show no symptoms are allowed to proceed to their final destination, where they are actively monitored by the local health department and told to stay away from the general public.

Airlines around the world continue to limit flights to China. American Airlines has extended cancellations to mainland China and Hong Kong through at least April 23. Two cruise ships in Asia with more than 5,000 people onboard are stuck at sea. On one, 135 passengers have tested positive for COVID-19 and are being quarantined on board. On the other vessel, no cases of the virus have been confirmed, but the ship has been refused entry to ports in Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines.

The Board of Supervisors has requested a weekly update on the virus.

What makes this Virus so bad that burial of the dead is not a option ?
Non-infected people (family) being exposed to the infected corpse. And, where are you planning to store all those bodies? How many videos have we seen of hospitals overflowing with body bags?

I'd wager it's a math thing. The CCP and PLA realize that they can't get it under control with "normal" practices, so, everybody that even LOOKS sick goes to "The Pit", and all the corpses get burned. They either pay the Butcher's Bill now, or later... And, they are probably trying to cover-up the evidence trail from their quasi-BSL4 lab in Wuhan.

I doubt the CCP is enjoying any of this (although I'd wager they are taking the opportunity to address some "dissidents" in the meantime); it's destroying their workforce, their economy, and their much coveted illusion of competency. Once this all gets cleaned-up, globally, how much business do you think China will have lost permanently?

So, standing orders are likely: GET IT CLEANED-UP. WE DON'T CARE HOW YOU DO IT. JUST DO IT.

Unfortunately, the rollout of the testing kits to labs nationwide hasn't gone as smoothly as planned, due to some unexpected problems with the assays used in the protocol. Messonnier acknowledged that some of the COVID-19 test kits have yielded "inconclusive" results during routine quality control checks at the individual facilities. The problems have not adversely affected testing of possible COVID-19 cases, and samples collected from people suspected of having the virus are still being sent to the CDC lab for confirmation and validation.

"Obviously, ideally, we'd want tests done as quickly as possible," she added. "But accuracy is more important."

The agency is currently re-evaluating the test kits and working with state labs to correct problems, Messonnier said.

She also confirmed that there were some errors involved during testing of the 13th confirmed case of the virus in the U.S., which was announced over the weekend. The case involves an American citizen evacuated from Hubei province on a State Department-chartered plane last week and placed on 14-day quarantine Marine Corp Air Station Miramar in California.

According to Messonnier, the blood and mucus samples collected from the patient were "misidentified" and thus not initially included among those "prioritized" for testing at the agency's lab in Atlanta. The error was spotted and the sample was subsequently tested and found to be positive for COVID-19, she added.

Is it just me, or is this way more alarming than it came off in the article? I mean, they've basically admitted some of the test kits are flawed. Bad quality control. (Maybe made in China??)

CDC expects COVID-19 to take a 'foothold' in the U.S.
Officials optimistic virus spread may be slowing in China, globally

...At this point, the agency is still recommending against the use of face masks and respirators by the general public. The equipment should be reserved for healthcare personnel treating patients with COVID-19 and close contacts -- such as immediate family members -- of confirmed cases.
They are still worried about resupply.

No problem, Ragnarok. Thank you for the apology. It was really good of you, but I wasn't really offended. I've said some things on here, too, that didn't come out right. My post wasn't as clear it should have been and it would be easy to misconstrue what I said. You were just protecting the membership from what could have been seen as an insult. I certainly didn't mean it that way. We're good!

If naturally evolving Spanish Flu survived in soil in a cemetery for years, why couldn't this new lab grown hopped up NcoV survive for a few weeks on packaging coming from overseas? I think we are overlooking the short long term picture. China has issues with being behind the initial curve here. We are also behind the curve but a little less so. If China had the fore warning we have, maybe their health care system could have kept up. If there are a whole lot of undiagnosed people here, our health care system will become overwhelmed to. Presently we have the resources to deal with the cases. When we run out of drugs, respirators and the like, I think we will have our issues too. Thank god that Trump is less PC than our democratic politicians.

I stopped tossing the mail on the counter a couple of weeks ago. Dealing with anything incoming is a pain, but hopefully is effective enough to be worth doing.

I kinda resent having to use up alcohol because of junk mail, but it does need to be picked up and then picked though. I do it outdoors. The rejected stuff goes right into a specific trash bag, the "keepers" like a few bills are dealt with and then my hands get appropriately sanitized. Not fun when it's so chilly outside, but I don't dare catch even the annual flu, so I do it anyway and don't cut any corners. I've already figured out how I'll deal with the meter reader when he comes at the end of the month. He's a nice kid and I'm sure he'll cooperate.

You get home from international travel.

Nothing in your refrigerator because you cleaned it out before you left.

Maybe you have other family members living there too, so there's food.

Either you go out and restock, quarantine be damned, or your family members do it for you because they aren't under quarantine.

A R0 of 4.7-6.6 is bad. Smallpox bad. I don't think that this can be controlled with any reasonable measures. The US is in a good position strategically with oil independence, food independence. Our manufacturing base is in shambles, however. I could see a possible "war footing" here where facilities are brought back, converted, etc much as what happened in WWII. At least I hope that is a possibility--particularly with pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

The ONLY upside I see out of this is a return to "Made in the USA"... Sweet, if you survive the virus and public unrest necessitated to get there...

I had read the pneumonia caused from coronavirus was viral. You would know more that I on this though.
Original pneumonia will be viral, you are correct, but it is not uncommon (it has happened to me) for lungs already deep in a viral infection to catch a bacterial one ON TOP OF the original virus.

Also, it is not uncommon for someone to catch bacterial pneumonia AFTER they recover from the viral version but their lungs are still weak and they catch a bacterial strain.

So this would a secondary condition, which is another reason for NOT using antibiotics unless the person tests positive for a bacterial infection too and/or is in serious danger/has a history of getting them.

In a rationing situation,I'm betting only people who test positive for secondary bacterial infections will get antibiotics and mostly thta will be inside of hospitals.

This is very bad with an RO of 3.77 this virus is unstoppable without draconian (think china-like) quarantines And even then it probably won't stop and then a death rate of 3%, it's literally a civilization ending event in a year the world won't even look the same I hope and pray that these numbers are wrong with a 60 % infection rate that's 6,700,000 deaths in the US alone

I did the math, yesterday, also...

The sheer numbers precluded me from posting it... I can't wrap my brain around that...

Now, I posted a study yesterday that said the mortality is as high as 15% with an infection rate 0f 83%... Plug those into the calculator!
