This concerns me a bit. Our DS works for a company that employs several Indian nationals. They fly back and forth to India all the time. Another concern is that we have an older Indian couple who lives and runs a little country store within a couple of miles from our house. They make trips back and forth to India several times a year. LOL, she refuses to buy American clothes. She buys all of her wardrobe while on trips to India. We have almost as many Indian nationals living in my area as Muslims.
There are also, for the record, a number of Indian nationals working as doctors and nurses in our health care system. They do great work, but here is yet another potential vector…

Okay, guys, this is really big. I've been following this conference for years. Mobile World Congress has NEVER shut down. But here it is; too many of their key exhibitors pulled out.

Fair use cited so on and so forth.

World's Largest Wireless Industry Conference Canceled Due To Covid-19 Concerns

On Wednesday morning, Nokia, Vodafone, BT, Deutsche Telekom, HMD, AT&T, Sprint, Cisco, Facebook, Intel, Royole, Sony, Amazon, LG, Vivo, Ericsson, and Nvidia all withdrew from participating at the world's largest wireless industry conference in Barcelona on COVID-19 fears.

231 people are talking about this

By late afternoon, Mobile World Congress (MWC) canceled the event slated for Feb. 24 to Feb. 27 in Barcelona on virus concerns.

This is the first time MWC has canceled the conference in its 33-year history, which usually sees upwards of 100,000 participants from across the world.

“With due regard to the safe and healthy environment in Barcelona and the host country today, the GSMA has canceled MWC Barcelona 2020 because the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event,” GSMA said in a statement.

MWC's theme on the now-canceled event was primarily based on the global rollout of 5G equipment and services. This could be a major setback for the industry as it appears the deadly virus spreading across the world could delay rollouts and planned investments in advanced telecommunication networks.

So it appears the world's largest wireless industry conference was just canceled because of "just the flu." Yeah right.... Maybe it's time governments starting to tell us the truth about COVID-19 outbreak - it seems that mega-corporations have already gotten the memo...

We no longer have societies with people that have a basic "common knowledge bank".
Everyone seems to be educated just to the point of "earning a living" in some highly specialized task.
a burn. The social worker can't bake bread. The IT specialist wouldn't know how to can meat.
The musician expects to eat in restaurants daily. Etc etc. etc.
Even driving, in some areas has become an "optional" to learn skill.
Such high specialization is what makes some societies vulnerable.

I expect that a lot of the skills and knowledge that most civilizations HAD but that were kept secret in "guilds" of workers who then fell suddenly due to epidemics, wars, and other historic, mass human die off events, are the reason that a Lot of things, like knowledge of natural medicines, and making cement as strong as Roman CEMENT was lost.

This.

The world has never been so hamstrung by its own lofty notion of “civilization”.
Nor has it been so readily programmed through electronic “social media” to be at each others’ throats at the drop of a hat.

Not yet personally convinced that the Wu Flu is our greatest immediate enemy, but it wouldn’t take much to complete the perfect storm already on the horizon.

We're definitely living in interesting times. It's like watching a slow moving train wreck. We're on the tracks, but the train might stop before it hits us. Or not. Time will tell. We're all gonna die one day. Until then, live!

Just don't stand on th' third rail... In other words, things is about ta get "sporty..."

61 Cases in South Africa tested and found to be free of infection. It is not known which test kit were used or the length of time individuals were under observation. In light of the new 24 day window and the CDC kits being faulty one wonders about the veracity of their diagnosis.

The NICD said on Tuesday 11 February that a total of 61 individuals were tested for the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in South Africa and all of them have tested negative.

The NICD took to Twitter on Tuesday to put South Africa at ease: “There is no confirmed case of the 2019-nCoV in South Africa.”

NICD continues with coronavirus surveillance
In light of the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak which originated in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China and has now spread to other major Chinese cities and other countries, the NICD — a division of the National Health Laboratory Service — continues with its surveillance activities and testing of individuals with symptoms of the coronavirus.

Coronavirus update: 61 people test negative in South Africa

Does anyone KNOW how long it takes to cremate a single body at a local funeral home or crematorium?
This is America. Crematoriums are for profit businesses. They are not part of the socialist health insurance plans.
therefore, there are just enough crematoriums to fill current demand "Just In Time".
Any additional demand driven by pandemic will fall to local governments to resolve - invest in mobile cremation before the rush.

WHO says coronavirus cases stabilising in China, but outbreak could go any way

First - No harm to the messenger. Thanks for the post.

The WHO (World Health Organization), and their acolytes - deserve scorn, shunning, and, a short drop from a long rope.

Take the naming of this novel coronavirus. Covid-19.

Good Lord! Sound like the name out of a video game, sci-fi movie (helps if you say the name out loud with a low gravelly voice).

Seriously though - it was renamed to reclassify. Namely to dump pneumonia out of the classification. At least that's my limited understanding. Kinda like what the did with the flu. Now your case numbers drop. Kinda, because if I understand the flu def - it includes pneumonia. That's why the flu kills so many tens of thousands a year. Helps push vaccines to have that high number.

Whereas with Covid-19, if untested and you die of ARDS, your body will not be added to the CFR.

Numbers lie and LIARS figure.

Covid-19, also a household disinfectant. Covid-19, solving all of your pesky humanity problems.

BTW while venting - that cruise ship in Japan, Princess whatever? Y'all do realize there a good chance that'll turn into 1,000 people dying. Pretty serious stuff. Just what in blue blazes are these people running things thinking! Maybe they're running some lab test with 4,000 souls. That's giving them credit for playing with a very inscrutable full deck. Somebody at US State should have the Marines show up and escort our citizens off and into our quarantine at some nearby base. And - then they might have a better chance of surviving. If not, these people will be force fed Covid-19 (it's got RNA!), with meals, walks, air, and touchy goo.

I apologize if this has been mentioned above.
I can't keep up with this thread.
But, outside of China, how many deaths so far?

I don't know. The thread has become too difficult to keep up with. I've quit trying. Just don't have the time to go back and read 10 pages that were posted, since the last time I was here.

Wow. That is what I kinda understood, but I didn't know if I was remembering it rightly.
so even as few as 20 bodies a day would leave them with bodies stacking up daily.

Depends on how many "processing units" they have.

China is a huge place, with an enormous population. There are folks requiring the services of the crematoria every normal day, but I doubt they have the excess capacity to handle this situation.

Antibiotics doesn't treat or cure it.
They may be useful and save lives, however, once it hits the lungs because pneumonia often leads to secondary bacterial infections but they won't do anything at all for the initial virus.

Often times patients that are high risk, will be given antibiotics to try and prevent a secondary bacterial infection but in healthy people,it is recommended to wait unless or until a bacterial infection occurs.

So are they still going to let all of the quarantined people out after '14 days'...when the incubation period has been raised to 24? I read a week or so ago that the incubation period was 28 days.
The answer is its still 14 days!!

Melodi

Disaster Cat
Nonsense!
Not in this case, my understanding is (and I will ask Nightwolf again) but my understanding is that with an AIRBOURNE Virus they can still be infectious.

It isn't that dead bodies are by their very nature likely to infect others, but with airborne viruses they can, Nightwolf said the HHS protocols for dealing with potential dead victims in the UK was one of the first hints (a couple of weeks ago) that this actually was an airborne virus (or highly suspected of being one).

Could someone please tell me where it was first posted about the 42 day incubation period?
I can't remember how many pages back but I believe the info came out of China and not Hong Kong, Taiwan or Japan so such info would need more verification. I thought when I saw it the story seemed to anecdotal and not verifiably. It was 42 days, in which I believe there are way too variables in that. I would consider it as an outlier at best, but a probability.

yes, 'cause 1000 have died from the virus. 1000 in a country of 1.5 billion is not a crisis, it is a boom, an expanded market, it is a "Hey baby, business is great, we going on a cruise to Thailand, gonna buy you a lobster dinner for a $1"

Watch what China does, don't listen to what they say. To quarantine dozens of cities with strict rules, shoot people who don't want to go to quarantine, etc. Hello! Shows us China knows this is really BAD. Stupid is doing what China did in December. Stupid is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Stupid is treating this like SARS.
